Some drivers just continue to amaze me, even after I thought I've seen it all.
Saturday evening, headed north on BV just past Palmer, the car ahead of me and I took the Rainey bypass. The car ahead got to the merge point, STOPPED. and then made a LEFT TURN into the oncoming northbound lanes that were leaving the RB!!!
I honked my horn and flashed my lights, but there really wasn't anything else to do.
So, to the "driver" of the gray Honda that was there a 6:35 PM Saturday:
1) I hope you and any passengers are OK
2) The DMV has flexible hours so you can go and TURN YOUR LICENSE IN, before you get killed or kill someone else

Yeah, but this one took effort. First, he had to come to a dead stop in the road. Then he had to make about a 150 degree turn into oncoming lanes. If I were the Florida DMV, I wouldn't give him a chance to have another "trick":1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I passed a south bound golf cart on Warm Springs, just south of the circle where Warm Springs starts, woman driving with a cell phone in her hand, not sure if she was walking or trying to follow the GPS app.. . .
also saw a golf cart heading towards brownwood on meggison take a blind left hand corner in the left hand lane, the one where the small hill on the left obscures the golf carts coming south. . .
so now, in my F250 i drive very slowly, sub speed limit most everywhere in the villages. . . so that i can stop relatively quickly. . . as a golf cart is no match for the truck.

TV is the most dangerous area I have ever driven in, as well as bicycled in. There are so many folks who are incompetent drivers, I guess due to meds, age, vision and hearing deficiencies. Then there are those who have lost a long time spouse, who did all the driving for the past 30 years or so, and the surviving spouse now has to get behind the wheel after not driving for decades. Actually, I do feel sorry for these folks. I hope and pray I'm never in such a position.

If I wrote about how many times I’ve seen drivers do stupid and illegal behaviors on the road, I’d run out of ink. These are some of the behaviors I have seen over the years; people not stopping at stop signs, traveling the opposite way in the roundabouts, putting on signals and turning the opposite way, tailgating, speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, aggressive driving, drunk driving, texting while driving, putting on makeup while driving, running red lights, driving their cars onto golf paths, having dogs on their laps, coming to a complete stop before they turn into a street, not keeping up the proper speed when going on a ramp to enter a highway, when there is a merge written on the road cut you off on your blind side, not changing lanes when a police officer has pulled someone over, passing a bus full of children when the bus driver has stopped with lights flashing and stop sign visible to see, not pulling out of the way when EMT drivers are flashing their lights and sirens. I’m sure there are many other examples I haven’t mentioned, but I am sure if you have been driving for years you have seen some or all that I have mentioned. In the meantime, don’t get distracted and drive safe.

What about following speed limits? I live on Oak Forest Drive which is a long straight road. Many people use it as a race track - go as fast as possible…….. and Oak Forest Drive doesn’t have a cart lane so all vehicles, bikers, walkers, runners, etc. use the same lane. Just because we don’t have children living in The Villages, we do have elderly people with memory problems, balance issues, etc. we should remember they can easily step out into and or further into the road just as a small child might do. What’s the rush? Take your time.

Maybe it's brain freeze or maybe it really is stupidity but about 40 years ago back in New Jersey we had someone at a lighted intersection turn left into the wrong ways, the wrong way and hit the car in front of us. Luckily we were far back from the guy waiting at the stoplight and we did not get hit ourselves. It was a four-lane road. I have seen many people make left turns into the wrong Lanes going the wrong way over the years that is why there are so many signs but not enough with arrows showing to go around the meeting. In fruitland Park there are a few intersections where they really need to paint the yellow lines in the center that go around the median strips and not leave them blank in the road

It is VERY important to drive defensively here in The Villages. There are many inept drivers. Don't add yourself to the dangerous ones by allowing yourself to be impatient or off guard. It may be time to consider stopping driving a car and don't relax if you are driving a golf cart. In the past twenty years over two dozen people were killed in The Villages due to golf cart accidents and dozens more badly injured. The only factor that any of us can control and protect is our own self.

I was walking the dog at the Spanish Springs square Monday. I heard a truck horn beeping and saw a car at the Paige place/main st intersection standing immobile although the light was green. The beeping came from the tractor/trailer behind. After several beeps, the car driver moved on towards us and the square, then turned LEFT. The one way street around the square is to the right. A golf cart driver came upon the car and gestured that the car was going the wrong way. The car driver waved back and KEPT GOING, then turned left again (against traffic), finally parking. The driver must have been lost, something that happens often enough in the villages.

I had my motorcycle shipped here from Minnesota this past February. After about ten or so rides I decided that it was no longer worth the risk to life and limb riding here in The Villages, and sold it. Wife is much happier.
I've always been of the opinion that, after a certain age (65?) there should be mandated road tests every other year for a person to retain their driver's license. We'd all be much safer.

Very difficult to implement. Some 85 year olds are more physically and mentally fit than some 25 year olds. Also, not everyone's driving skills are equal. I generally follow the speed limit, except on long interstate trips, and even then I'm the "slow poke" at 78 mph., but always obey the limit locally. However, the speed limit on BV and Morse (south of 466) is 35. An average NASCAR driver could go drive it at 70 mph better than I could at 50 , and I could drive it at 50 better than some at 20. I would like to see, although it will never happen, "flexible" speed limits. You get road tested then rated for a certain speed regardless of the limit. You have a transponder in your car that LEO can read when they clock your speed. If you drive recklessly at your rated speed, you get rated down. And I would add, on three lane interstates, the same restriction as trucks---"No trucks or anyone with a rating under xxx allowed in left lane"

I just had to share something I found ironic. There is a pamphlet at the rec centers explaining how to negotiate the traffic circles but...you have to negotiate a traffic circle to get to the rec center.
I still picked one up and leave it on the bulletin board at our rental villa. Also, we add some common advice in our tenant instructions that we send to all tenants prior to check in. One item we placed in all caps...."if you find yourself about the enter an automobile traffic circle while in the golf cart, you have gone the wrong way, turn around!"

When my mom's bf was alive and was getting very forgetful our neighbor found him one day going left in the Morse roundabout against traffic. Luckily it wasn't busy and she was able to get him turned around safely but that could have been a disaster.
Another time after Sunday football we came out to the parking lot to lots of flashing lights. Turns out someone tried to drive the golf cart tunnel under 466 and got their car stuck.
And one more, I was in the old PO in the historic section lady was asking clerk for directions. After she gets them she says "I have to becareful I drove onto a tee box yesterday in my Cadillac."
We get everyone's worst drivers. I've never seen such collectively bad driving in the 40 years I've been licensed.

Been here 17 yrs. from Orlando. Have also driven in Italy, where if you leave one carlength open ahead of you, the car following you will launch into that space. You name it, I've seen it in TV. So far, no collisions, but many misses by feet and even inches. THE most annoying are those who are oblivious to others behind them who they are blocking.

Perfectly logical to drive on the left.
When carts and carriages were horse drawn, the drivers all over the world sat on the right and on top when driving.
This enabled the whip to pass along the outside of the carriage when in use to stir up the donkeys, oxen, mules or horses.
If coach drivers sat on left, whip would have passed down centre of coach, possibly taking out the eye of any passenger.
When cars came along we placed the steering wheel on the right, as this was the logical place, as all drivers were quite at home in that seat.
Your car designers for some obscure reason (probably a left handed ex whip cracker) placed the steering wheel on the left, which is the reason you and many other nation all drive on the wrong side of the road!
As for the sword, you try drawing it in a hurry, if you have a load of passengers to you right hand side. Logic!!:icon_wink:

Your car designers for some obscure reason (probably a left handed ex whip cracker) placed the steering wheel on the left, which is the reason you and many other nation all drive on the wrong side of the road!
As for the sword, you try drawing it in a hurry, if you have a load of passengers to you right hand side. Logic!!:icon_wink:
It's the same reason we Murikans got the notion that measuring by the 12s instead of the 10s would be better somehow.
That didn't go over so well. Most people still need a yardstick to figure out that 2.5 feet = 30 inches.

Whilst I understand the metric measuring and weighing that has been foistered on us by our former European partners, I still work in yards feet and inches and Farenheit.
I also am not advers to using rods and chains in measurements when I want to confuse the grandchildren when they get smart with me, and Stones, not pounds, when Americans ask my weight.
As for Boxing Day, don't ask!
PS. 30 pence is Half a Crown, or two and six, or half a dollar. That is a throwback to when the GBP was @ $4 to the £1
Funny old world!

as you may know by royal decree there is no more jousting, horse and buggy riding, save hrh, god save the queen, ( from her relatives,) whips, dueling, racking, drawn and quartering, knights of the round table, merlin or saving my favorite for last hogwarts and its denizens.
So as sherlock would say, is it not , " elementary my dear sir 💵² that l o g ic calls for putting away foolish things.
Btw how's the irish sea border talks going. Heard there's a banger war coming. More trench war in the offing? Hip hip.
Ahh! The sausage war!
If you have ever tasted an EU sausage you would realise there are still a few thing left worth fighting for in this world.
God save the British Banger.

Don’t you just love the idiots that stay in the left passing lane. I see where law enforcement is now ticketing them. Great!
