We will spend a couple of days in Tarpon Springs over 4 July. Any recommendation for great Greek food there. I did check TV gourmet club entries and did a search here but didn't find much.
Good food is much more important than atmosphere to us. TIA

We really enjoy "Mama's". It's right in a shopping center along the main drag about in the middle. There's always a person handing out coupons on the sidewalk by the center entrance. Tarpon Springs is a fun place.

Looks good. We left that area in 2005 to move to the Villages. My Dad raved about a small place in Tarpon Springs but I will have to do some research to see if it is still open.

Thanks for the replies. The one pushed on Yelp is Hella but it seems kind of touristy to me.

Was told years and years ago all the basic Greek dishes are made in one place and sent to the restaurants. So a spinach pie in one is the same next door. A cook may add to it but same food. Pastries as well. Never had a bad meal in Tarpon! Enjoy!

Whichever one has the shortest line. Hellas will have a long line but if you get there early you may be fine. Demitris is good but again arrive before the rush.

Mr Slovakis on Alt. 19 just south of the Dodocanese Blvd (street that takes you through the docks) The dish they call Greek Chow Mein. Very unique and not like what you think of as chow mean. Yuuuuuuuum

Tarpon Springs is the place in Florida for Greek food. That being said, if they are not good they will not last long. We go there at least 4 times a year and have tried almost every place along the sponge docks. Never had a bad meal anywhere. Also, while there do not forget to buy some of the goats milk and olive oil scented soaps with natural sponges.

Helle (sp) is great! I've only had Moussaka there (plus dessert) but I'll be going back there for more soon.

That's because they advertise on Yelp. The Villages Gourmet Club website lists 4. We have eaten at all of them.
Yes Hellas caters to the toursits but the locals eat there too. Why? Because the food is authentic, the service is fine and the bakery is wonderful. You won't be sorry eating at any of those places.
BTW there's the docks area (Dodecanese Blvd.), where the tourists hang out and the downtown area (Tarpon Ave.) with the locals. They are a few blocks apart.
Enjoy,

I may be recommending a place that's already been recommended, as I cannot remember the name. It's a fairly large restaurant with an awesome bakery attached on the left side of the road on the main drag as you head west from Route 19. I guess it is touristy, but the food, the presentation, and the service are outstanding.

The place across from Dimitri's is also good. Many locals there.

We didn't care for the dishes we got at Mamas. We really liked Mykonos. Mykonos also selsl their bread which is huge (really long), delish, and reasonably priced. Take a loaf home with you.
