The Republican Senate bloc has united again. This time it's to block lifting the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. You don't have to be a gay rights activist to know this policy is wrong constitutionally. I also believe it is morally wrong.
It is tragic and shameful that any political party put their collective political agenda ahead of what is right. For those of you blaming America's ills on one party and gleefully expecting that Democrats will be drummed out of Washington, do not be surprised at the level of public disgust expressed by millions and directed toward Republicans in November.

You neglected to add WHY it was blocked. Seems one of your heros, Harry Reid, at the last minute tried to add a number of election type ammendments.
Even those on the REP side who favor voted against it for that reason only.
Man, do your research !!!!
Your post is typical of the political clap trap we have had since Reid and Pelosi took over.

This is yesterday's news but the reason the Republicans voted it down was because King Harry Reid would not allow any discussion or any amendments to be proposed by the Republicans on the bill. If he had allowed it, he would have had the votes necessary. Susan Collins even told him he had her vote but he had to allow discussion and amendments by the Republicans to be considered. When he refused, she said NO.
Is the Reid model really the way a democracy should work ?
BTW, that is not all that was in the bill and this was all being attached to a bill that provided funding for our troops in Afghanistan. They also had something in there called the Dream Act to give illegal aliens immunity. Why would Reid want that in a defense Spending Bill ? He is trying to get reelected in a heavily Hispanic state is why.
How about just presenting a bill with one item in it, allow debate, consider amendments from all sides and have it pass or fail on its own merits instead of these political shenanigans the Democrat majority is playing ?
41 more days until election day.

Another thing you failed to mention is the fact that Arkansas Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, also voted with the Republicans.
Of course Reid's vote was to insure procedural flexibility that will be needed to raise the issue again. Lincoln and Pryor are trying to keep their jobs.

Agree. I think more were opposing the Dream act that the Don't Ask Don't Tell portion. Although neither of them belong in the defense spending bill.
I get tired of these senators/reps adding superfluous add ons to any bill. Each bill should stand on its own merits.

Yep, still no personal attacks here.
If somebody makes a flawed and misleading statement how do you call them on it without it being a personal attack in your eyes.
I lie to you; you tell me I'm lying; by you're logic you've just made a personal attack on me.

Known full well to Reid when he slipped it in the bill.
As was stated above, Reids attempt to curtail/not allow discussion or opportunity for amendments was a good intention for we the people....BS
Reids move was to muster the gay voting block as well as the latino voting block.
Partisan packaging, and re-defining to make a point.
It shows and falls flat every time just like Reids bill.

Yep, my post was at best sarcastic because this is the same poster who criticized folks on here WHO DO RESEARCH as being those who only posture politically with no facts.
Not personal, it just is not a good or right thing to engage in conversation either KNOWING you are leaving out facts, DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS, or are UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE FACTS. I was just curious which it was !!! It was a pretty serious oversight, even you must admit !!!

Nice comment Yoda, but I'll use it with my own spin to complete a sentence which is my summation of the political forum.
"If it's a liberal, you can't ...post here without a specific group of folks getting angry at you."
They get angry at what you say, how you say it and often at you personally. Almost never can you have an intelligent discussion. Rarely do you get an accurate and emotionless answer like pauld315's above.
I started this thread as my 'last experiment', stating a simple thought but purposely glossing over facts. All but one of the responses fell into the same old tiresome groove. So from now on I'll have discussions with individuals in pms.

So you didn't really post useful information?
You were "glossing over facts" ?
You have been conducting experiments with your posts?
Why would you do that? It doesn't seem like someone being very open minded looking for an honest informative exchange of ideas to me. Sorry.

So, if the facts are wrong; No one is supposed to comment on them?
So, if facts are presented in an out of context or misleading way; no one is supposed to comment on them?
If a statement is an obvious lie; no one is to comment on them?
Is this post of mine a personal attack on you?

I'm just curious what you think now Xavier that ijusluvit has said he was being purposely misleading in his original post.
When the misleading statements were picked up on by others and challenged, you step in and defend ijusluvit. I'm just curious what you think about this exchange.

Ok now we know...you did it on purpose !!
But, you did not gloss over facts....you just plain ignored them !!!!
Gotta tell you.....this is so typical of a certain class of folks who deem themselves above us poor folks. Everything is personal and it is ok for you to just ignore facts on a political discussion board for some grand elite experiment !
PLEASE have your conversations whereever you wish, but try and keep to the facts and those who do discuss with you had better be careful that they are not part of another grand experiment where you DO NOT DISCUSS FACTS or issues !!!
This is just plain scary that anyone has this kind of mentality !
I wish you good luck wherever you go and they accept your manifested superiority !!!!
You cannot have discussion without criticism when you are ignoring FACTS that are relevant but I suppose us poor dumb people should not question the elite group conducting experiments on us !

I'm not defending anything. Just for a minute forget about anything else except for Bucco's response and tell me it isn't a personal attack. Now read his latest response and tell me it's not a personal attack.
We can play this game all day long with many of the posters. Take for instance, any of the top seven posters. Read their responses to any of the posts that they don't agree with as they are written and see how many personal attacks you find.

You seem to ignore any posts of substance that any of us make and also ignore your posts which certainly could be construed as personal.
Since you mentioned me specifically....you and IJUSTLUVIT have found it necessary to attack the entire board for quite some time now. You just do not discuss issues...you just DO NOT. You only come from this angle. You two obviously feel so far above those who do in fact try to get their facts straight that you need to clean us up.
You aim at folks on the board on a pretty constant basis...I have been posting on issues for years here.....you just do one thing...aim at people who post here. Read your posts on here....they pretty much ignore the idea of the forum and pretty much manifest you two as some sort of posse aiming to clean up anyone else.
Well, .....forget it...you are a one trick pony....you have one issue and it is everyone that does not agree with you, whatever your stand for...we dont know...we just know you dont like us !!!!
I believe you play a game...you two...you know the grand experiment you two intellectuals are performing on here. I sure wish I had the enormous self esteem you two have !

You know what Bucco, I agree with you.
Before I post, I always check and try to double check my facts with many sources. I double check my grammar and spelling so I won't look anymore uneducated than I am.
I don't want to give out incorrect information or information that is misleading in anyway. Since I've been posting on political I have learned so much from both sides. That is a fact.
But for the life of me, I don't understand why some people just pop in occasionally and critique the conservatives. I don't understand why others would want to "experiment" and trick people who have an honest interest in discussing politics.
I don't understand how you justify someone being admittedly deceptive by pointing out another person who called that person on their deceit and misinformation. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm sorry but it doesn't. If you have something to say, just say it and be prepared to explain what you've said with facts or just say that is how I feel and I don't have any facts to back it up.

I'm getting really curious, as no one is responding directly to my queries. If someone does say something really, really stupid, and I can't call him on it; what could I possibly say, as that person probably won't take kindly to anything I say at that point, because calling his premise stupid is seen as calling him stupid, and a personal attack. Is a stupid comment the end of the discussion?
I've had my ideas trashed many times by my political opponents and just take it as it comes. Some people don't want their ideas challenged, and if you do, classify them as personal attacks. It's getting very confusing in here/

Correct way:
Richie, very respectively I'd like to say to you: that is one of the dumbest things I've ever read!! Of course you can say something is stupid if it is stupid.

I don't want to come off as some experienced oldtimer on here, but I have been posting on this political forum since day 1.
During the campaign and primary, if you check the archives, most of the posters were either Obama or Clinton supporters and I caught heat on a daily basis for not warming to the Obama thrill. I was called names, etc.
And on occasion if I erred and was called on it, it was not done in a "friendly" way and I came on here and either made counter point or apologized for screwing it up.
This is nothing new and in my opinion, these two are just...well, wont use the word I want to...but folks who find it humorous to have fun at others expense ! They feel superior for sure but have no idea of the facts or how to present them, nor are they used to anyone disagreeing with them, being "always right"
To come on here and say you deliberately posted something incorrect to "test" those on the forum is a bit depraved in my opinion. It may be in line to get an alter ego on here and go the LADIES forum or whatever these folks like to post in and "test" those who post there for some reason.
If you want to call this a personal attack, be my guest...I actually dont care what either of you think about anything. You have ZERO credibility and I would not believe one word of what you post on here or any other subject, since you might be "testing" those folks.

Both parties for so long have tried to attach so much stuff to bills for political posturing. A previous poster was right when he/she asked for the untainted proposal to be voted up or down without amendments. Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen. IMHO, nearly all members of both houses really don't care about the USA. They only want to get reelected. And look how our local congressional rep screwed her own (our) party by waiting until the 11th hour to say she wasn't running but gave only her anointed handmaiden a heads-up about her plan. Why isn't there outrage over her gaming the system?
