Recently had to beep at 3 cars in 2 days that were stopped at a blinking left arrow with no cars coming in the opposite direction. Funny, one of them took right on red and didn't stop before taking the turn.

It means proceed with caution!

You will also find they run stops signs and stop at yield signs.

And why should they have to wait?
Maybe drivers should learn the rules of the road and not expect the world to turn around them.

Had another near-miss at the Morse/Paige/Camino Real roundabout. In my golf cart, using the path that circles outside the circle perimeter. I was coming from the medical center campus parking lot toward St. Tim's. I crossed El Camino Real without any problem at all. Got to the Morse gate on the second leg of the circle and stopped to let the cars on the roundabout take their exits. Someone on the outside lane, heading for the gate, STOPPED in the roundabout and tried to wave me on, while someone on the inside lane of the roundabout was taking their "second or third" exit to the gate as well.

Obviously, I knew it would've been a stupid thing to do, plus the person who STOPPED in the roundabout needed to not stop so I waved him on and remained in place at my stop sign. Meanwhile, there were three cars coming up behind that stopped person, and one of them started beeping.

This guy who was stopped in the roundabout trying to wave me on was blocking traffic. He started to go again, JUST as the guy behind him pulled around and tried to get in front of him.

SO glad I just stayed where I was. Let the pile-up happen, as long as I know I'm doing the right thing and out of everyone's way.

Florida Statute 316.271 (3) reads: "The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when reasonably necessary to ensure safe operation, give audible warning with his or her horn, but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway."

That's a particularly dangerous roundabout for a golf cart. Lots of traffic. Lots of layers of traffic. And the physical design requires a golf cart driver to look way past 90 degrees left, closer to 180 degrees left, to see approaching cars in the roundabout. Twisting around that far left is not so easy for some older folks.

That may have been me in front of you. I refuse to turn left on a yellow blinking left arrow.

Until we moved here 5 years ago, I had never seen the yellow blinking left arrow when the main traffic light in red.

When the main traffic light in my direction is red, my instincts tell me that the light for the cross traffic must be green, so I am not going to pull out into the intersection. I will wait until I get a green left turn arrow.

Despite what a lot of people think, you are NOT required to turn left on a blinking yellow arrow, you are ALLOWED to turn left IF there is sufficient space. I have sat back at the crosswalk line in the left turn because there was an SUV or truck in the opposing left turn lane BLOCKING my view, and I will not pull into an intersection unless I know it is CLEAR. Sorry if I annoy you, color me NO accidents in almost 55 years of driving!

It doesn't matter. It's my responsibility as the one in the golf cart to stop. It's your responsibility as the car-driver in the roundabout to go.

If you don't go, you'll mess up the entire system.

So go. Don't worry about me. I'm doing my job. You do yours.

Reminds me of many years ago. I was lost in my air cooled VW. You need to picture the engine sound and the sound of the horn in an air cooled VW. Some dude with his engine big enough for a truck decided to lean on his horn. The guy was so out of control of himself that he turned completely around in his seat to give me the foul gesture. He was so out of control that he did not see the turn in the road. As I passed his car leaking from his smashed up engine. I could not help tooting my VW horn as I drove past him.

I was told generally speaking when it's yellow you slow to 5 miles an hour or you stop depending on where you are. Yellow generally means to me also you proceed with caution when you can. But you have to remember your safety is in your literally in your own hands. As an example of that in Leesburg oh, there is a blinking yellow light down on Main Street where they're building a new hotel is a rehab for seniors. I have never seen anybody slow down to 5 miles an hour which is the law but they generally continue doing 45 miles an hour and in 20 years I've never seen police patrol that intersection

When the yellow left turn light is on, there absolutely can not be a green light for cross traffic. The light is there to help left turning traffic move along when there is sparse, or no, traffic coming from the opposite direction. You will be, in fact, a traffic hazard if drivers behind you get frustrated with your lack of consideration/knowledge, and try to go around you. Do us all a favor and don't be a traffic hazard.

When you're on Morse and turning left onto 44, the straight traffic light is red and left turn is blinking yellow just before it turns to green for straight thru traffic..

I also HATE to turn left "IN A MAJOR INTERSECTION" with a blinking yellow light. Once you pull out, there is no turning back and you have 3 lanes possibly coming at you all staggered. It is too hard and dangerous to try and time it. Rarely is there absolutely zero cars in a 3 lane intersection.

Now if you honk your horn at me, I will purposely make you miss the next green light because my engine will somehow stall. Learn from this.

You should go to the AARP driving school and learn the Florida driving laws. Cost? $15.00. Florida law allows left turns on a blinking yellow light as long as there is no on-coming traffic. Helps move things along and is completely safe when done correctly.

Sometimes I wait and sometimes I turn right on red. It all depends how I feel and if I can get a good view of the traffic.

For example, we often go south on Morse and turn right on 44 to go to Wildwood. If the light is red, we do not turn right. We wait until it turns green.

If you are that timid and unsure of your driving ability then you need to turn in your drivers license and make the roads safer. You obey the law and practice courtesy to other drivers. That road isn't there just for your use only.

You really should learn to drive. Yellow has never meant stop. It means proceed with caution. You should complete your turn if traffic conditions allow. If you don’t do this you should expect the drivers behind you to get irritated. It is your fault that they are irritated not theirs.

We do not turn right on red at that intersection because we cannot see if there is traffic going west on 44.

When we are stopped in the right lane, there is usually someone in the left lane beside us and we can't see around them.

Just out of curiosity, when you do that, how many angry honking horns are blown at you, how many "one finger salutes" and more seriously, how many pull out from behind and try to turn in front of you? And just to be obtuse, what if the person behind you is trying to get a sick or injured 3 year old to urgent care?????
I'm not suggesting you do anything unsafe (ie: something most prudent drivers would NOT do), but there are rules of the road that allow a right turn there, so when any one individual makes up their own rule it messes up the "harmony" of traffic flow.

None.

Since our car is pointed straight when we are stopped and we do not have a right turn signal on, no one knows we plan to turn right.

When the light turns green, we put on our right turn signal and turn right and head to Wildwood, oftentimes to visit our dear friend Billy-Bob.

Like John Donne wrote, "No man is an Island"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is sounds like, at least at Morse and 44, that you approach the intersection to make a right with absolutely no intention of turning right on red even if the road is clear for whatever reason you might have. Furthermore, it sounds like you intentionally conceal the fact that you are going to make a right by not putting your directional on until the light turns green and you are starting your turn, in violation of the traffic statutes. So in summary, it sounds like you are making up and adhering to your own laws, not those passed by our representatives and agreed upon by the voters. Do you think there might be a problem if everyone did that????

No

So, in your opinion, there is no problem with everyone picking and choosing what laws to follow and even making up their own????

OK, I'm going to make up my own speed limit on Pinellas Place at 90 mph. No problem according to you?

Or is it just you that can pick and choose which laws to follow? And is it based on "your feelings".

No offense, I'm just playing devil's advocate (as usual)
