It depends on WHICH Sunpass you have. If you have the OLD Sunpass, then it will only work in Florida and a small section of Georgia will take it. If you have the NEW Sunpass Pro, it will work in Florida and everywhere that EZPass works (e.g. Georgia & Ohio turnpike - those are the only toll roads you would encounter on your drive to Ohio ). But you have to buy the new Sunpass - Pro transponder. Your old Sunpass transponder won't work for EZPass roads. You can buy the new Sunpass Pro transponders either in a store, online at Sunpass.com or from Amazon.com (Uni Pass). I bought the new suction cup transponder from the Sunpass web site and it came already set up in my account and it worked on the Illinois turnpike, so I know it will work where EZPass is used.

When driving thru Atlanta we saw Peachpass only lanes. Are these covered by SunPass Pro?

They have both Sunpass Mini and Sunpass Pro at the turnpike service center just outside The Villages.

The Sunpass Mini is a stick on transponder that is good for NC, GA, and FL. The Sunpass Pro is a portable transponder with suction cups that is good for NC, GA, and FL as well as anywhere that E-ZPass is accepted. See previous posts for list of states.

What is the difference between Uni-Pass and SunPass Pro?
SunPass Pro (SunPass) is from the state of Florida and Uni-Pass (E-Pass)is issued by the Central Florida Expressway Authority. You can get a basic SunPass or E-Pass but they only work in Florida. (Except regular SunPass includes Georgia, I believe) If you want 18 state coverage then you must pay around $14.95 each for a special transponder. SunPass accepts E-Pass and E-Pass accepts SunPass. I have the Uni-Pass because it was first to offer 18 state coverage. The Central Florida Expressway Authority is down around Orlando and is responsible for Orlando airport and local toll roads. SunPass does Florida Turnpike and other state tolls. Either program works and the transponders are the same cost.

Go to the Sunpass website, they show a map of all the states that accept the Sunpass, and all others.

Since I already had a Sunpass account that already had some money left, I chose to order the Sunpass Pro unit from the Sunpass web site. And the cost was either a little less or the same as the Uni. They shipped the Sunpass Pro within 5 days and it was already set up on my account. I then went to the Sunpass web site and deactivated my old Sunpass device, and have used to the new one on the Illinois turnpike which accepts EZ Pass. And, since I will now be using the pass much more while I'm up north this summer, I also downloaded the free Sunpass app to my cell phone so that I can monitor my current amount and easily add more if needed. So all in all, getting and using the Sunpass Pro was a good fit for me.

Check with Sunpass. I was told by a Sunpass representative that they will pay all the fees for Sunpass and E-Z pass tolls, they will only honor the discount fee in FL and GA.
If this is true then E-Z pass would be a better purchase as they give discounts in all states that use E-Z pass including FL.
I made a trip to the airport with Sunpass, and a week later made the same trip with E-Z Pass and the tolls were exactly the same. I relocated from a state that had E-Z Pass and had kept it for trips northward. Based on What I was told, I decided to Keep E-Z Pass and close my Sunpass account. You can make your own choice. Maybe I was mis-informed?

Boy, that was as clear as mud. And no one even touched on the additional factor of discounts provided by the various transponders. It’s a mess. All the damn toll roads need to get together and have one freakin box. And don’t even get me started on the useless suction cups. It’s the 21st century and we’re using suction cups?

Timely questions. Many of us have Sunpass and EzPass (from northern states). I spoke with Massachusetts EzPass rep today and was told that MA EzPass can now be used in FL interchangeably with Sunpass Pro (which we have). One or the other but do not keep both active in your car when going through an EzPass toll or Sunpass toll. If both are active, you’re likely to get BILLED from both entities. We just did. According to MA EzPass (today) print out copies of Sunpass invoice with toll charged, and print out EzPass invoice with toll charged and circle/highlight duplicate charges and send a highlighted copy to either the Sunpass administration address or your state’s EzPass administration address and they will review and remove and credit your account for duplicate charges. Eg, send it to MA EzPass and they will review both invoices and credit your MA EzPass account. Conclusion: if you have a transponder for each entity, remove one from your windshield and wrap it in foil or put it in the special bag and stash away. Use one, not both at the same time in a vehicle as two active transponders may result in double billing. These are recent developments as the MA EzPass rep stated they were just informed of interchangeable passes and the prospect of customers being double billed. Good luck!

We have a Sunpass Pro but will not work on WV turnpike if you travel to Ohio via I 77. The turnpike money collector says it is not accepted yet, which makes me think they are working toward it. It does work in Charlotte NC on i77 and Atlanta if you travel via i75.

IL uses iPass. Is that covered by Sunpass Pro?
Yes it is. At least for I-80 west from the I-294 split. Was there just last weekend and both west bound and east bound charges were logged to my new Sunpass Pro and deducted from my Sunpass account. I vaguely recall reading on the Illinois web site that the Chicago Skyway doesn't take EZ-pass and therefore not Sunpass Pro, but I could be mistaken about that. But to answer your question, EZ-Pass is accepted from Illinois all the way to New York plus a number of various east coast states. I think all of the states, just like Florida, have their own independent turnpike/tollway authorities. And all the the midwest, northeast, and now Florida have a partnership with EZ-Pass for the collection of tolls. So even if you get an EZ-Pass, you are actually getting it through a state authority (e.g. IL, OH, PA, NY, FL).

I recently secured a Sun Pass Plus which is apparently good up the entire east coast. Cost about $15 and replaced my old Sun Pass. It enabled me to cancel my EZ Pass.

1. There are SunPass transponders at the Florida Welcome Centers, in vending machines, placed next to kiosks that walk you through setting up an account.
2. I purchased mine using a credit card (at the vending machine). The amount charged was $16.20.
3. My Visa credit card shows the following entry:
USA* SODA SNACK VENDING YULEE FL
4. I bought the transponder with the suction cups.
Also
My son and I were traveling to Bok Tower Gardens and I decided to call SunPass to add another vehicle. The ensuing phone call, all caught on the dashcam, was such a ”comedy” that we nearly drove off the road from laughing so hard - repeatedly (the laughing, not the driving off the road). It stemmed from the artificial intelligence (automated respondent) thinking that we were responding when it was just road noise from driving. Forty minutes of «brute determination» finally got the job done. Yes, we did finally get a human and she was a gem. ➡️

We use to and from Ohio and it saves a lot of time. It can be used in Georgia where the Peach pass is required. Last I read the number of states that accept it is growing. Best to do your own research to find the latest if you want more information.

My Uni pass worked at the Chelyan toll a week ago. I just checked my account. So, at least Uni is working in WV. I highly recommend it. I ordered it through Amazon and it arrived in 2 days. Has suction cups and we can switch between cars.

We decided to keep the EZ Pass and cancel Sun Pass rather than buy another Sun Pass. Aside from paying for the Sun Pass didn't see an advantage or disadvantage of either one.

And don’t even get me started on the useless suction cups. It’s the 21st century and we’re using suction cups? The suction cups just slide off. Then just use the clear super "hook and loop" (plastic velcro) like EZ PASS uses. Works great. :D Personally I prefer the "permanent" Sun-Pass. Much less obtrusive and never falls off. Of course it's for FL only.
