If you are driving your car or cart, you've probably noticed that the gates are down at all entryways. But you may not have noticed that almost none of them have the usual STOP SIGN in place. Driving from TDS to Lake Deaton in my cart today it was particularly fun dodging 2 lanes of cars that were blowing through the gate area at 30+ mph. So, please, pretty please be extremely careful at all gate crossings. And to the CDDs, community watch, or whoever is responsible----get some stop signs out there!!!!!!

Good point!
So be super careful. I wouldn’t count on the car drivers to be cautious (except me :1rotfl:)

We're all adults...some old and with issues that would and do prevent them from driving a car, but not a cart.
Expect some folks to be dim witted and slow to respond/react. It will never change in our life time so just accept the fact ****e will happen. There's nothing you can do and warning people won't work either because the folks that will cause the accidents either won't read this forum, won't remember or don't care.

Maybe GE is trying to alert the folks who DO read the forum, DO remember, and DO care.

Why would you put stop signs out when you expect high winds? The gates are down because high winds are expected.

Please do not ask for speed humps. They don't solve the problem. I just came from a golfing community where every exit out of the area I lived in was all SPEED HUMPS. After 20+ years of driving through speed humps every day you learn to hate them. So glad not to see them here. Not only do they not really slow people down, but if you live anywhere near one (I did) you will also be driven crazy by the constant WHAP! of front then rear tires as someone way exceeding the speed limit drives over them way too fast.

We can see the gate at Odell near Mallory from our patio. Stop signs are useless. Not only does no one stop, 90% DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN! This is a very dangerous situation. If you are crossing in your golf cart, be VERY CAREFUL!

Scary for sure! The gates have been removed in prep for the hurricane/storms brewing. Signs are a hazard for the next couple of days.
The overall problem of safety will not blow away and the end of the weather threats. Last wk a friend of mine had the police called on him for seeking an apology from a person that cut him off when he was driving his golf cart. The car turned right into a Postal center down near Fenny. This person and his obnoxious wife argued and told my friend that they had the right to make a quick right hand turn in front of him as he was in a cart. Their actions causing him to slam on his golf cart brakes to avoid t-boning their car. They told him that golf carts had to yield to cars!!! Completely false in this instance and a sign of complete entitlement.
The wife called 911 stating that this person was a threat to them and harassing them! Funny thing is the situation ended up with my friend being told he could leave and the police speaking to the people that pulled in front of him in their car.
In this case car drivers have to yield to golf carts. Common sense would just tell you that the law of gross tonnage applies and that you want to be careful when around any vehicle that is larger than you; however in the villages when the speed limit is at its highest 35 miles an hour on main roads, anyone in a car should know to yield to a golf cart or use caution out of the simple act of humanity!
Golf cart drivers should always assume that the person in the car can do them harm which is a sad state of affairs but is also common sense.

First, the gates are down due to possible power failure because of the upcoming weather. It has nothing to do with high winds, if it was they would not leave them laying on the ground next to the arm motors.
Second, while a reminder is great on herre, does anyone really think posting on here will fix anything? Would be nice if it was that easy. lol

Fix anything-------No
Warn people-------Yes
We all know there are people who drive carts and tend to ignore stop signs, relying on car traffic to stop. At least if they are fully aware the gates are down the MAY modify their driving behavior

The reason for not putting up Stop Barricades is due to the possibility of high winds along with the tropical Storm Elsa.

Speed bumps are a clumsy, unsophisticated answer to a problem that punishes 95% of the people for the actions of 5% of the people. The money to pave the speed bumps would be better spent on gate cameras or more Police protection.

Obviously, the solution is traffic tickets. Small infractions must be eliminated or they will lead to greater and greater infractions. Pretty soon driving would be a LAWLESS situation like some 3rd world countries. A high-tech solution might be possible like cameras at the gates. Or some newer tech solution?
For right now the immediate and ideal solution would be MORE Police patrols. The Villages NEEDS to be a golf car community for many reasons. That ALL goes away if people do NOT feel safe while driving in a golf car. The whole Villages IMAGE goes up in smoke with FEAR of using golf cars. Villagers PAY extra for freedom from the fear of overly aggressive drivers that KNOWINGLY speed and forgo stop signs. Villages also pay for less crime in general. So, more Police patrols and more tickets handed out would benefit the 95% of the law-abiding Villagers. People need to be more vocal in their demands for the security that they have already paid for!

I agreed with you re: speed humps.
However, why am I not surprised that your solution is MORE police, MORE government, MORE laws, rules and regulations? Big government is not the solution to everything, nor is more taxation, more spending, more programs and more hand outs.

I like it without the gates. Traffic moves more smoothly. As far as stop signs on the street at the gates, we really don't need them. However, the STOP signs for the golf carts are still there, but I'm sure that most people don't even notice them. They are at the street crossings at all the gates.

I am going to guess that you are a newbie. They are always removed prior to the threat of severe weather to prevent them from being possible projectiles. Whether they are there or have been removed, it is always wise to slow down before entering a community. People walk, some with their dogs or children/grands. Most of us are retired so I can’t understand why everyone is always in such a hurry anyway.

Of course I know why the gates are down, I was reminding those who don't know. The little stop signs on stands that go up when a gate is down is not a great idea for an approaching hurricane, but they have put stop signs on the gate shacks in the past. In either case, the point was to remind everyone to be careful
