Olympics will ban spectators after Japan declares state of emergency (https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/08/japan-olympics-committee-bans-spectators-following-state-of-emergency.html)

This is a sad but probably necessary measure.

They could have gone with "fully vaccinated spectators only". This would require showing proof of vaccination (which I oppose in this country but just fine for Japan:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:).

I wont be watching many (or perhaps any) events. Not about to support a bunch of spoiled brats who won't honor our flag, a bunch of basketball players with BLM stickers all over their jerseys, or "women" weightlifters with male members. not mention watching commercials from suddenly WOKE companies.. I actually prefer the Winter Olympics where I can see some skiing and ice skating to me that takes a lot of talent. Watching a guy throw a metal ball isn't that enjoyable or 2 minutes sprinter. I do like basketball and hockey at the Olympics but everything is about the money these days and it's just so sad

My Dad thought his career was going the wrong way he wanted to so he did that to make up for it.

To me he looks like a person who cares about the rights of a group of people and how they were treated over a long period of time. I am biased as we both went to the University of Nevada, Reno but he was there about twenty-five years after I was.

I do NOT believe that college athletes should get paid. Amateurism is a good thing. The overall problem is that the US has a weaker middle class that can support amateurism today than in the past. That affects everything.

Many have that same highly charged emotional response to an action that many others considered just an expression of free speech. In a country (the US) which celebrates, brags about, and denigrates OTHER countries for their lack of free speech, it IS strange and even inconceivable for Americans to find fault with free speech - no matter the situation! Saudi Arabia and Russia have used this example to show that America is two-faced and situational about its greatest, world-leading principles.

I have no problem with his right to free speech and I have no problem with him exercising his right to take a knee.
However, his action was despicable, and that is why he is human garbage.
With that action comes consequences, and IMHO he did not suffer enough nor quick enough

Jimjamuser is absolutely correct. If you pay attention, the disparity in wealth is affecting us all in so many ways. We lead the world and it’s growing, but many here have simply scrapped our dream, invented their own, and keep telling us how we should be.

“In 2016, 77.1 percent of the total wealth in the United States was owned by the top 10 percent of earners. In comparison, the lowest 50 percent of earners only owned 1.2 percent of the total wealth.”

For decades, the drag on demand growth stemming from rising inequality has been compensated for by other economic and policy developments—notably a long-running decline in interest rates. Going forward, however, these compensating mechanisms are likely to fail, which means that the inequality-induced drag on demand would translate directly into slower economic growth overall.

Fact that so many will not be rejoining the workforce is at play as well.

Yet, there are hours and hours of posts condemning unnamed black people, and generalizing about their race...literally thousands of posts, yet Jan 6 seems to be tabu. Can you name a worse, more disgusting act, and the drivers make it even more disgusting.

But, the attacks based on color of skin, you deem non political. Come on....it is the basis for probably 80% of all posts on here...it just goes on and on about how worthless people are, how they live to vandalize.

And just a very few have condemned the attacks on Jan 6 and the reason for the attack. I mean, literally, very few.

How quick so many posters are to jump on one man who stood up for what he believes, but refuse to even address the attack on our country.

So!
As I understand from this thread.
The march on the Capitol, alongside the great inequality of wealth in the US, plus the virus, have caused the Japanese government to ban spectators from the Olympic Games.
Another factor was women with, and men without dangly bits, are plotting to steal all the medals from the American lady competitors.
And I was going to buy a new super sized tv, with all the bells and whistles to watch it.
I think I will stick to the old black and white tv, and watch old films.
Funny old world!

Japan does NOT have vaccines available and we have them going to waste. Japan HAD to ban spectators to prevent a surge in cases. They are SMART people.
WRONG...

I'm pretty sure they banned spectators because of fear of resurgence of COVID, particularly the delta variant. I very, very, VERY much doubt it hand anything to do with the capitol riot and even less to do with "wealth disparity", whatever that is. I call it a work disparity. Those who work in school and work at their jobs are able to accumulate some measure of wealth. Those that are extremely talented in sports or show business make big bucks, but still have to work hard. Those that sit on their behinds watching Oprah and pushing out 6 babies by 6 different fathers before age 24, have nothing. And that "disparity" was their choice

Of course it was the Covid.
I thought "As I understand from this thread." was the give away to the post, and to how off topic it had become.

I thought it must be something like that, I very much doubted you would have posted that seriously

Just another travesty

I'm with you most of the way in your very thoughtful post. I'm going to watch until I see the first protest while I'm watching an award ceremony. My protest will be to click 'em. I'm sure they don't give a rats behind but it's all I've got.

I'd watch and enjoy the sport. They should keep their opinions about the word I can't say on here to themselves. Maybe I'll do what Archie Bunker did and demand equal time. Archie Bunker on Gun Control - YouTube (https://youtu.be/CLjNJI54GMM)
Archie speaks about a different subject but the idea is he got his chance to say his piece. CASE CLOSED. :blahblahblah:

You’re right, he’s one poster who will never let facts stop him from posting his feelings….

This thread is about Japan's decision not to allow spectators to watch the Olympics. As usual, two posters that can't stay on topic if their life depended on it. How did we get to the Capital insurrection and income disparity? It appears some will use any thread to push their agenda.

I suppose we got here the same way that the posters of post 6, 9, or 11 got to skin color, which I realize you do not consider political but it is. But that switch of subject was done quickly.

You folks who like to act as monitors are so hypocritical, it is really sad. I picked out posts 6, 9 and 11 quickly but I am sure there are or were many others as many posts have been deleted.

It amazing how quickly, the color of ones skin becomes of import in these threads. I have no idea what post may have preceded mine because of deletions.

Of course, even though one team has officially cited that as an issue for them in 2022, you monitors decide it’s not political thus you can can discuss and label on and on.

Heck, you would be upset if I mentioned in a Covid thread, the applause given to anyone who loudly expressed anti vaccine views during this past weekend....that is the kind of leadership we need.

I expressed my fears on what is happening, and these posts confirm my fears.

Why are your "fears" the only ones that matter?

Posts 6, 9 & 11 all dealt with the Olympics...

Yours? Not at all. You simply injected "Wealth Disparity" into a thread that had nothing to do with that...

But nice try...

Olympics? Who cares? I had no plans to watch either way
