Just wondering, many of the usually manned gates north of 466, are not being manned and the gates are off. Does anyone know what’s going on with that?

Maybe an after effect of the hurricane. They take down the arms during the storms.

It was simply the so called hurricane.

they take the gates down when high winds are forecast....no gates, no real need for a staffed gate house...and during a hurricane they are not staffed anyway
once someone sends out an all clear memo things will be back to normal

What hurricane? We were very lucky to have just a broken up tropical storm. No issues at all where I am. Hope everyone is as unscathed as Mallory.

The District does not remove gates based on what transpired, but rather on what possibilities the forecasts predict.

That was for the Storm preparation. If not already, they will be back manned fairly soon.

Yep. Which we all knew would happen as it always has in the past. Possible heavy storm coming and the gates are secured. Why the surprise unless you just moved here yesterday.

The gates are removed in the event of a power failure, when the threat passes, they are put back...it's that simple.

With storms approaching and electrical outage, gates are taken down. When the power goes out the gate don’t work.

Having a gate arm stuck in the down position, during an emergency is dangerous. Gate guards should not be working during hurricanes. Although not perfect early action before a hurricane is for the best. Late hurricane evacuees spend the hurricane in their vehicles in a traffic jam on I75. Preparing early for a hurricane that may not happen is the safest action.

She asked the question because she didn't know. For the love of god, does sarcasm have to come into play with every post?

My theory here is that after around 10 to 15 posts on a thread, the thread goes completely off track.
Admin should close most threads, the question is answered by the 5th post.

Why do some villages have a manned post and others do not?

The real question being asked should be....
What is the real purpose of having an actual person in the shack?
I only go thru that lane when it's raining and I don't want to lower my window to use the card to enter.
Yes, a little sarcasm

I have been coming to TV since 2006, and I never knew exactly the reasoning for taking the gates down. I noticed they do it, but never exactly why.
Thanks to the OP, for asking the question, and thanks for the answers.
As for the sarcasm, meh.
