Currently we are big users of DIRECT TV. I am concerned that if we setup Direct TV when we move there that the weather is going to create a lot of problems with reception. Does anyone have experience with Direct TV and what is it? If Direct TV is not the way to go, any suggestions? Is FIOS available in the Villages?

Hi, I just moved to TV in early July. I got DirectTV, I had always had cable before, so I was a little concerned about the weather and losing satellite connection, but since I have lived here I have never had a problem. We've had a few hard rains and I haven't lost connection at all.

Like Johnny Rugby asked, I'd be interested also about FIOS. I have it at home in NY and my computer is quick.

I have Dish TV, same idea with a satellite dish on the roof. In the 6 months I've had it there has only been one outage because of weather and it was only a few minutes.

We use Direct TV. Take our boxes back and forth between TV and Norcal, call Direct TV and they adjust our location - no additional fees and no charge for the second dish and connection but we had to take and pay for an additional box. We ended up with three boxes and only used two so we later dropped the second one we had from Norcal.
When we first set it up they had us on TV channels and we were still in Norcal, got it corrected. Then when we got to TV it was set for Norcal channels, got that corrected too. You could probably get channels from any area that they serve with no additional charge as long as you didn't want the area you were in at the time.

In 2007, I switched from Embarq (Comcast had not arrived at that point) to Direct TV because the introductory pricing was so enticing.
I quickly learned that in heavy weather I would lose the connection.....
However, when the tornado hit that year, I had no TV for four days during that crisis. I had to go to a neighbor's who had
Comcast (it never went off) to see and hear what was going on --- weather radios were not a must have item. (Who knew!!)
I later learned that Direct TV was not allowed in our Village (where there was heavy damage) because they had never requested
approval for admittance as the other service contractors had done.
That is when I switched to Comcast and have been satisfied ever since....hopefully there will be no future tests!!!

Verizon does not currently provide FIOS service in the Villages. But if they did it would be a heavy blow to Comcast.
Have had DirecTV for 3 years. . . no problem.
Once ............. in a GREAT while . . .you looose it for a few minutes.

Glad you are happy with your Comcast service. We just had Directv installed because my first two weeks with Comcast was absolutely chock full of miscommunications, broken aged equipment that I felt "on principal alone" I had to make a change. So far so good with Directv. By the way, I think you may have been misled by your village. Federal law dictates that no homeowners association can prevent you from using the satellite dishes. I was unaware that the Villages required prior approval of contractors and vendors who are contracted to the home owners. I doubt that would even be legal.
