View Full Version : Fast and Furious Black Dodge Charger in The Villages

There's a very noisy black Dodge, with a very aggressive driver speeding around, weaving trhough traffic on the streets of The Villages. Three evenings ago, around 7pm it came fast up behind me on Morse Road, flew around me, and turned right in front of me on to Odell. I realized this was the same car that got over 100 comments in a thread on Nextdoor. This guy is street racing with himself, it's only a matter of time until he's in a terrible wreck and one of us will be hurt or killed. I tried to get his plate number but he was going too fast. I don't even know if I gave the Sumter sheriff the plate number if they could do anything since they didn't catch him in the act. Be careful out there.

If someone gave them the plate number they could stake out his house and than follow him and catch him in the act.

Buy a 30 dollar car camera off Amazon. I have no idea why the federal government doesn’t mandate these as standard equipment. Would eliminate a lot of stories given in an accident

Yep, we sure need more government mandates. Union made, union installed cameras, now were up to an additional $300.00 tacked on to the MSRP.

The police can't act on a witness's viewing of the speeding vehicle, they have to actually see it in person. I don't know for certain if a video will suffice for the police to take action. The witness can file a complaint with the county DA office but you will have to appear in court to testify against the offender.

I asked her for the plate # and she responded to me, but it wasn't the same as the plate I saw. She sent me a photo, I think it was a temporary tag, or the guy is switching plates. The last 3 numbers on the photo she sent were 433. The plate I glimpsed had letters not numbers in the last 3 positions.

Better yet, the government should implant an RFID chip in our necks and with enough readers spread around always know our whereabouts including real GPS data to show when we're traveling too fast for posted speed limits. At least until the next-gen chips are available and they can read our thoughts far enough in advance to know when we're about to speed or otherwise drive recklessly... Won't that be awesome!

If Vin Diesel is driving my wife would be very interested in knowing the next time he's sighted in The Villages!

It’s the car’s fault not the driver. Chargers turn nice guys into blank holes

A lot of us in the cycling club are getting cameras for our bikes to record aggressive drivers who make the roads unsafe for us. We forward the videos to a sheriff’s deputy who is in the club. The deputy pays a little visit to the offenders and explains the facts of life to them.

Police dont “stake out” houses for a traffic violation. Dont watch so much tv. The cops wont and cant do anything unless they happen to witness him committing a violation.

Absolutely not! If police dont witness it, nothing can be done. Go ahead and video, file a complaint if you can manage to get an appt with the SA within the next 20 years for a traffic violation. Then he will hand it back to you, show you the door and shut it behibd you on your way out.

Does he make that "visit" on his own time???? Somehow I doubt he could do that in an official capacity. And if so, I would be happy to have him get off my property. BTW, are your cameras going to capture your fellow cyclists blowing through stop and yield signs, often as a pack? The very nature of cycling on the roads in TV is somewhat unsafe (as is driving any vehicle).

I have no problem with cyclists and no problem sharing the road, but the key to sharing anything is for all parties to follow the rules. Now if you are a cyclist, don't get your undies in a bunch over this statement, but it seems cyclists, at least those that frequently post on TOTV, are very adept a citing laws that apply to drivers of other vehicles with regard to cyclists, but pick and choose which laws they will follow on the road

As a former state trooper, I can tell that we encouraged the community to report traffic offenders - you are correct, it's only a matter of time until this guy takes out another driver or himself around a pole or tree. Contact the Sumter S.O. or the Florida SP and provide them with a description of the car, the license plate number, the time of day the driver commits the traffic violations, and the area he travels. More than likely it's local talent or someone that works in the area and travels the same routes. You are correct, the police can't take enforcement action on misdemeanor traffic offenses unless they witness it themselves.

The officer in your club has no legal precedent or merit to visit anyone’s residence based on your video. In fact he can be disciplined for using department resources in an inappropriate manner. To further the actions if enough people complain he can be reprimanded for harassment. There are as many aggressive cyclists here as drivers. Everyone feels they own the road. The cycle club acts as though everyone on the road should give way to their membership, when in fact some in their ranks are much more aggressive that the drivers.

Back mid April, I heard a very loud _built_ engine revving at some point in the early AM coming from Avenida Central.

Next day I found out two guys were killed on Avenida Central. Wrapped their Audi around a tree near Del Mar, very close to the Square.

It has always bugged me that I heard that vehicle.

I used to build engines and race 1/4 mile drag. I know what a built engine sounds like. This is not a sound you can generate with an Audi.

Makes me wonder now if this knob in the Dodge was street racing that Audi.

A video showing a speeding vehicle would be useless. There are criteria that need to met in calibrations that can not be verified. However, a video of clear reckless driving along with the person in court swearing that they filmed the video and witnessed the reckless driving could be used to obtain a warrant. The driver would also need to be identified in the video or by the person videoing. A vehicle can not be charged.

If this was Federal, he would be fired. If we use systems to determine any information on a person outside of a authorized investigation its misuse. Combine that with visiting the house and just getting fired is getting of easy.

This might help with those hoping to play at being a law enforcement officer.

You need a police officer with the proper equipment and the right credentials to put a stop to this. But notifying the Sheriff's Department about where and when this driver usually is could help.

Note the time. Go to the gate and record the plate number, call the police they will go issue a warning.
With all the varied speeds people will drive at here, golf carts included. I take it easy and give plenty of space, and the occasional too toot if there seems to be a turning issue with other cars and carts
