I am a little concerned that house numbers are not easy to read from road, especially with regard to first responders. The National Fire Safety Council states the importance of having well displayed numbers in order for the fire department to find your house. Can house numbers be displayed in any other manner than a non-permanent indoor window display? Seems like safety should be the first priority.

Took out link to the nfsc. Just google it.

Thank you, Brenda

Most houses in our villa have numbers in their road facing windows and they are easy to read. However, most also have a sign hanging on their pole lamp with some names and addresses on it.

Some of those lamp signs are lit which look really nice and make them very legible at night.

Re: signs
An old wise tale was make it a little bigger than you think it should be and then make it three times bigger than that. Ride or walk around and you will see what works and what doesn't.

As far as first responders, delivery people etc, they all use GPS.

Welcome. I don't know if you are buying new or used, but we bought new, and our sales agent gave us a package of coupons when we closed. Things like dinner at Blue Fin for 2, and others including credit for a pole sign. There were a couple of different companies so we could pick the one we liked.

My house number is on the exterior wall above the garage. And, some people use the lamp post sign for just the house number with no name on it.

I had the same concern. We bought black numbers from Home Depot and put it on the frame (tiny screws) on the garage by the light so it could be seen at night. I went out on the street in total darkness to see how well a driver could see it. It is easy to read at night from the street.

You can add house numbers to your home, like over the garage door or next to your front door. Most everyone has the house number on their lightpost as well.

Same in our village.

We have our house number on our light post, in addition to a nice brass plate on the garage wall with the number.

Most homes have their number on the front window. Also, many streets are long, I have 5 houses on mine, most emergency responders can find a house.

A flash on emergency porch light can be helpful.

In our village, we have 3 inch numbers on every house next to the garage door, and most have their number on the lamp post as well.

Don't forget that first responders also use navigation.
Also any number you use to call, the name and info will come up on their computers

I bought plastic adhesive lettering (Tru Value) atop my garage door, in addition to the numbered yard sign on my post light. The garage door lettering really stands out. You don't need a permit to add house numbers on your dwelling.

Our house number is above the garage door and not in a window. We also put the number on the pole sign. You can add a number to your house as well.

ugh!

The developer is being cheap putting stick on numbers on windows -> take those off, they look tacky, and put metal house numbers up over the garage, or some place where first responders will look on the physical house. During an electrical outage, the lighted signs on lamp posts won't be seen at night and most ambulances have lights

I believe that The Villages stopped using stick on reflective numbers on the windows about a year ago. In the new areas we are seeing metal numbers over the garages.

In addition I have always wired a blinking switch to my post light or front entry light so if I need emergency services they can look for the blinking light.

Of course, you can also install a lighted house number sign on your post light.

Lots of the numbers are in the windows so first responders know where to look in an emergency.
