I am very sad to share this information with our TOTV friends about one of our wonderful members. Steve from NY, Steve Allen, passed away Friday at the age of 56.
Steve was a wonderful man, a good friend and we will miss him so much. Not only on this forum with his wealth of information and fun loving spirit, but as a friend who was kind, fun-loving and very giving.
Steve shared with me about his illness awhile back and asked it to be confidential until he was cured, but unfortunately he eventually lost his battle with cancer.
Prayers go out to his wonderful wife, Julia, and their children and granddaughters, who he so loved and helped him get through the recent past while he was so ill.
Steve, I personally will miss you so much as in our short time of knowing each other, I really felt a strong bond and enjoyed very much being your friend. I am very, very saddened by the loss... Please all, pray for Steve today and remember him as one of our own.

Kathie...thanks for sharing this. I had the pleasure of meeting Steve and his wife at several social events. A life ended way too short. My deepest sympathies to Julia and his family.
A reminder to all of us to live life to its fullest since you never know what's around the next bend.
RIP Steve.

Although we both lived on Staten Island and posted here on TOTV, we only met briefly in the tunnel going to LSL last year, it is so sad to read of his passing. You will be missed... Rest in Peace Steve!

I don't remember if our paths ever crossed in person but I truly enjoyed our banter on TOTV.

I feel just exactly the way Russ does. I am sorry too for you Kathie and others on here who knew him. Thank you Kathie. Prayers will be offered in gratitude for his good life.
We need to kill that monster, Cancer.

Today I learned of Steve's passing, a man with so much life in him, and so much to live for.
I knew Steve for a short time, but he was a kind, gentle man. My heart goes out to Julia and his family..
May all of God's Blessings be with Steve as we pray for him...

I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He was a valued member here.
Awhile ago I suggested that the administration here consider perhaps changing the status of membership to "Eternal member" or something like that when a member passes, so when one reads a post of someone who is now gone, that it is known.
In this computer age, it is sometimes strange that a person's posts live on after they do. Knowing that they have passed and can no longer contribute helps those of us still here who perhaps would not know why that person is no longer posting, etc.
I know of some other forums where this is done, and it is both helpful and appreciated. Just a thought.
Respectfully,
Frank

Frank, that is an excellent idea. I can see where today, for instance, we have had a few mistakes like that because some of us wanted to revise some of Steve's older posts and it caused confusion to others that didn't realize he had passed away.
Tony, Jan, Darrell, ??? what do you think? We've had Muncle and Steve, two extremely valuable and noteworthy posters who have both left us... I think Frank's suggestion is excellent and I hope you all agree.

I add to that request from Frank and Kathie and think it would honor Steve and Muncle to be called Eternal Member.

I am one of those that didn't realize that the post I read about his retirement was reposted because of his recent passing. My sympathies to all who knew him. I hope my wayward post about enjoying retirement didn't offend anyone. I just didn't put two and two together. Again, my sympathies to all.

Oh Barry.
We all knew that. And it was MY fault for reactivating the post. Hugs.

We think it is an appropriate way to honor our members no longer with us for a multitude of reasons. What do you think, Talk Hosts???

There have been a few times in my blessed life when darkness fell and it seemed there would never again be joy. This poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow has eased my soul countless times.
I didn't know Steve or his family. But like many here, my heart grieves for his family because we know the mournful pain of loss. Love nor money can help us escape this truth. These memories of loved ones passed are but reminders to us all that we have no promise of tomorrow.
Enjoy life my TOTV friends. It goes by fast. My prayers go up for Steve's family and friends that they can find comfort in each other in each passing day.
The Reaper And The Flowers
There is a Reaper whose name is Death,
And, with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flowers that grow between.
``Shall I have nought that is fair?'' saith he;
``Have nought but the bearded grain?
Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me,
I will give them all back again.''
He gazed at the flowers with tearful eyes,
He kissed their drooping leaves;
It was for the Lord of Paradise
He bound them in his sheaves.
``My Lord has need of these flowerets gay,''
The Reaper said, and smiled;
``Dear tokens of the earth are they,
Where he was once a child.
``They shall all bloom in fields of light,
Transplanted by my care,
And saints, upon their garments white,
These sacred blossoms wear.''
And the mother gave, in tears and pain,
The flowers she most did love;
She knew she should find them all again
In the fields of light above.
O, not in cruelty, not in wrath,
The Reaper came that day;
'Twas an angel visited the green earth,
And took the flowers away.

I know we don't say this often enough, but thank you, Jan, Tony and Darrell...you have made my very unpleasant beginning of my day, so much happier at the end of it.
Thank you also for this wonderful forum and for the friends we (I) have made over the past 3 years and for allowing us to take pleasure in using the vision that you had in creating this forum. This fantastic suggestion from Frank has developed another milestone in the history of TOTV - a great milestone.... that of recognizing and remembering our departed members in memorium.
