Very loud insect noise last few nights. Anybody know what these are, how long they will be around and how to get rid of them.

Not sure what you are hearing. I read somewhere that this is the year that the chicadas will emerge. They are huge. look sort of like a flying black gold fish with bulging eyes. They live underground feed on tree roots for, I think it is 7 years and then they emerge. They are ugly,
they are harmless. I think I read somewhere that people eat them.

Don't think there are many cicadas here... We were "ground zero" for them back in MD, the noise was deafening...

What you're probably hearing here is the frogs... They're noisy lil' critters...

It is very interesting that cicadas in Florida appear every year, unlike their appearances further north in the rest of the eastern United States where periodical cicadas appear in hordes every 13 or 17 years.
Newcomers to Florida are often surprised by the sound of cicadas year in year out. For many Floridians, however, the loud calls of cicadas are a soundtrack for a multitude of Summer memories. The sound is so prevalent during those hot muggy months that their calls fall into the background and we no longer pay attention. But they are there.

Could be tree frogs. They sound like dogs barking and can be very loud.

What a great idea, let’s build thousands of new homes with no regard for the wildlife that is displaced. Let’s get rid of everything that irritates us.

Unbelievable, isn't it.
Some years ago a poster, new to TV, complained about noise from mockingbirds in the bushes outside her bedroom window.
In PA where I grew up, the sound of the cicadas meant August and summer winding down. Kind of bittersweet--the end of summer, but looking forward to new school clothes, return to a schedule of sorts, reuniting with friends.
Like someone up-thread said, the sound (we would hear as adults in Ohio and Michigan and sometimes here) brings back an actual feeling. I'm immediately back in the '50s & '60s.

Not sure anybody mentioned anything about displacing wildlife but hey why not take the opportunity for a little faux outrage.

Our house backs to a preserve. The noise can be deafening. Love it.

Misophonia: When Life's Noises Drive You Mad. For people with a rare condition known as misophonia, certain sounds like slurping, chewing, tapping and clicking can elicit intense feelings of rage or panic.

If it is a very loud buzzing it could be hornets or wasps. There are sprays to kill them (Ace, HD, etc). You will need to find where exactly they are and spray that area. For me they were in the front in the siding near the front door. Sprayed and within 2 days they were gone.

Wait, are you saying there are insects in Florida? Really? Why didn't The Villages inform me of this before I bought here? They hid it just so I would buy! OMG!

If that is what they are... they only live for a few weeks and die. They came up and out after a long long time underground.... years years... The birds and other critters have a feast when this happens. So sit tight it will be quiet in 2 - 3 weeks... do NOT TRY AND SPRAY... IT IS A FOOD SOURCE and they will be gone soon enough.
