We had our lanai enclosed by Custom Windows about 8 years ago and they were great and have had no problems. We find that we do not open the sliding doors as much as we thought we would with all the rain and high heat but still like the option on the few nice days in spring and fall. Several of my neighbors have used them also.

They refused to even give me a quote because I live in Marion County, despite the fact that both my neighbors used them to enclose their lanai's, back when you could buy windows and have them installed in a couple of weeks. I guess they weren't so picky about who gave them money back then.

It's been my experience that vendors who treat customers like they own the market tend to be expensive, and then hard to deal with when something goes wrong. I'd avoid them.

We just had our lanai enclosed with floor to ceiling sliding windows. I highly recommend Custom Windows as they did an excellent job. They have a showroom off of 44.

It took longer than they promised due to longer than expected to get the parts from their vendor.

Installation was fine.

Only problem is one latch broke and they will insist on getting the part from their vendor which took 4 weeks so it took 5 weeks for it to be repaired under warranty.

Overall very happy with the job. Did get double pane low E glass.

Nice to open sliders in spring and fall. One item. I recommend the heavy duty screen. You can see out fine but from looking in from outside you are invisible unless a light is on at night.

You can buy a product that attaches to your hose that cleans the screen and your windows was very surprised at how well it worked.

If you want the screens to slide so the windows can be cleaned they offer sliding screens costs more.

Everyone on here will always tell you this is the best company since sliced bread (Custom Windows of Leesburg) and defend them to the bitter end because of how great an experience they had with them. Mine was the total opposite. They are the most incompetent undependable company in the world that I have ever dealt with. Perhaps it was just the total fools of installers they sent to my house. Best of luck. I purchased with them due to the GREAT reviews on here as well. Here are all the issues I had with them: Dishonest, extremely poor workmanship, not interested in doing a final walkthrough, late, lazy, missed scheduled appointment after appointment, damaged windows upon delivery, they damaged them further while installing, they demand the remainder of full payment after their sloppy install even though you still have major issues. Why didn't I take them to court? I decided to politely keep reminding them to follow up and fix everything until it finally got done instead. Next, I intended to write them rotten reviews forever. They deserve it.

I guess we are one of the exceptions. We had a quote from them and had planned on using them but every time the sales person was raptor come out she would cancel or show up hours later like at supper time. They would not honor existing quotes and it got to be a real hassle. We called Cook Aluminum they came out, gave us a better quote and did the job nicely.

How do you know it’s reasonable. Heads up. General rule. Never give a job on only one price. It is unbelievable how many people don’t check out 3 vendors and their prices. Ex: we put up a stacked wall in the front yard based on my drawings of what we wanted. Got opinions. Asked the most popular recommended guy for a price. Over $11,000 and all neighbors who used him said it’s the going price. The second price was Around $8,000. The third guy was $2,300. He, his brother, and father did it in 2 days. I watched everything installed and they did an excellent job. We did the vetting and saved $9,000+.
Also no matter what any tradesman tells you, get approval from the villages in writing. If told the job can be started in a couple days or approval is not needed, they can start that fast if they don’t have approval that can take one to four weeks.
Anything you do to the outside that requires any kind of construction, be weary of what you or they THINK is the property line. Get a real surveyor to find the pins based on the property datum. We know two people who had to rip out all work because it didn’t meet the boundary requirements. Cement pads removed and relandscaped back to original settings. People here get taken all the time and usually because they think they got the going price and didn’t.
Always contact Seniors vs. Crime(free) and check out anyone you think you want. Old people always think they sre smarter than the average bear and that is their downfall.

We used Custom Windows and Home Design back in 2015 to enclosure our Lanai. Did a great job and were very responsive when they had to return to replace faulty grout and window seals. Would highly recommend.

No matter who you use be prepared to wait. We started our project in March 2021. Our windows who are being made in FL by PGT were supposed to be ready by Oct.
Recently PGT sent a corporate letter to all its vendors that the delays would be much longer. We are now sched for Jan/Feb 2022. They are blaming delays on the pandemic and lack of workers coming back to work since uncle Joe keeps paying them to stay home.
Since our job was already started we have no recourse but to wait. Custom windows has been very good so far. They even installed temporary screening and door so we could keep the bugs out somewhat. Just be prepared to wait.

Don't know if you're aware of this or not, and it may or may not be true, but am thinking more than likely it is true. I heard if you enclose your lanai with glass it increases the square footage of your living space, thus also increasing your taxes. Just something you might want inquire about to confirm.

Because of supply chain problems it took longer than expected. The finished product was well done. We had slider windows with a fixed window underneath. Added a mini split. Have hardly opened the windows.

We had West Shore Homes, phone # (352) 732-8600 enclose our lanai with termo pane double glass sliding windows. We have a lifetime transferable warranty and it was done in 2008. We have no problems and we didn't have to add an A/C to the lanai. I highly recommend them.

As Birdiebill mentioned, there are two companies with the word Custom in their name. Custom Windows and Exterior Design in Leesburg, which we used to enclose our lanai last March. Quite happy with them. The other is Custom Window Systems in Ocala. Have no experience with them.

We didn’t go with that company but chose ‘White Alluminum’ in Leesburg. They did a very good job and we now practically live in our 24x12 space. The sliders to the house are permanently open and the space is Airconditioned by our regular A/C unit with no special outlets needed. The 3 huge panoramic picture-windows are amazing (double glazed and E rating). We now eat out here and I have a small Art ‘studio’ where I can paint with excellent light. The build was 9 years ago and we have had zero problems with it. A very smart move!

We ordered our double pane in November paid half upfront and told they would be in by February. We finally got them in June. Then they left the weep hole caps out on half. Went to the store and they didn’t have any and had to order which I had to pick up. They are horrible.

Same here lied to from the start took 9 months and all they could do was blame their supplier. If they would have been truthful from the start I would have thought they were better. Needless to say many of my neighbors asked what we thought and I said horrible. They went elsewhere.

Custom Windows enclosed my lanai in 2020. I received quotes from 4 contractors and selected Custom Windows for several reasons not just the competitive price. I did not want sliders because there is a garden just outside the lanai. Custom Windows had the option of fixed windows on bottom and sliders on top. Also, I had the floor raised so that it is level with the living area. Custom Windows did an excellent job -- the lanai now can be used year round and it offered additional living space. At that time the wait was 3 or 4 months, however they completed the work in the time frame specified in the contract.

Custom Windows enclosed my lanai a few months ago. In my opinion they are not as great as some of the reviews indicate - just ok or good. The window installer did a very good job but their two subcontractors for stucco repair and painters were just plain terrible. I had to personally get involved to get them back out and try to supervise them. The stucco guy did not blend anything in with existing stucco and made a mess around the window frames and the painters could not paint a straight line around the frames - all crooked and wavy. After calling the stucco guy back out he still was incompetent and I had to fix his mess myself. I had the painters back out to repaint and I personally taped around all the windows since they were incompetent to cut in the lines freehand. Custom Windows has poor project management, quality control and customer communication. I sent the owner a nice business feedback letter indicating that their subs are going to cost them business loss but I never heard back from him - not even an apology.

The PGT product that Custom Windows sells as their Bella line is a very good product. Double pane Low E Glass. We went with them and they installed 12 8 foot Sliding Glass Doors. The only negative is that we feel we got the C team for installation. Many many call backs for faulty hardware (esp locking mechanisms) and water leaks. During storms with the wind blowing the wrong way, we still have leakage. Unfortunately they keep sending the same guy, who must be a sub that doesnt get paid for call backs. After the contract was signed, we never heard from the salesperson again. (I think he is the heir to the throne in the family business). All told, the product is good, the price was competitive.. they buy directly from PGT while others with lower volume buy through ROMAC, which puts pressure on competitors pricing.

Just for clarification - to switch to Class 5 living space (increase your square footage and taxes ) a number of factors must be included. Floor must be raised to meet house floor, the new outer walls must meet the standards of the house envelope, Electric must be added and it must be properly finished & climate controlled. ANY quests get proper information from the County building department.

Keep in mind that the sliders being used most have limits on the wind they can handle.

We had floor-to-ceiling sliders installed about 6 years ago. We added a traditional door. Excellent workmanship. Reasonable price. However, we also missed the fact that the sliders have to be removed to wash the outside of the glass. And, guess what, the older you get the heavier they get! The screen covers the full opening and cannot be removed. That in itself would have been a deal-breaker if we had known. But otherwise, we are completely satisfied with Custom Windows.
