Does anyone else here think the water is very harsh? The minerals or what ever is in the water is terrible on my metal in the shower and the sink faucets. It also seems to be doing a number on my skin also. Ive lived in south Fla. almost all my life and since we moved into the Hadley section my skin is also always flaking and dry, and my hair is always itching. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of adding some sort of water system to correct the problem. Has anyone had the water tested? Would appreciate any info if you have added a water purification system...
Thanks

Have lived here 10+ years, in our second home and have never had issues as you described. It could be just a sudden change to your system?

You mean to tell me that you cant see calcium or mineral deposits in the toilet and the chrome on you faucets is still shiny. Maybe cause u live in a different section. Well thanks for the reply...

Dear Renegade - the very first thing I did when I moved here was to install a whole house water filtration system. I knew I would have to do it because we used to live in Miami and had the same problem with the hard water. Plus I couldn't stand the taste of it. Once I had done that, my dry skin got softer and smoother, clothes and dishes got cleaner, and the tap water lost its awful taste. It's expensive but it's necessary, IMHO. Shop around, there are several water softener companies.

I've only been here for a year but we've had no problems with the water.I quit drinking water out of the tap(anywhere) for at least ten years.I know bottled water isn't as regulated as one might think but I like the taste. As far as a water filtration system ,I was told by people don't let these people in the door. You don't need it.I have no staining of fixtures & the chrome still shines brightly!!

Stay away from those folks that cold call and want to come and test your water. They will propose a system costing $7000 or $8000. The will let you negotiate down to a couple thousand.
Go to Lowes or HomeDepot, you can buy a softner for 5 or 6 hundred that will solve the spotting and dry skin.
We have been here over a year. We have had a calcium deposits. The water seems pretty good. We have filtration on the refrigerator which is great. We cook with tap water. We find nothing wrong with the water.
Keep in mind that when you move to the villages it seems that the people that you hear from the most are the water softener and water filter salesman. They do not go away until you firmly tell them to.

up around faucet bases. The pots on the shower room glass and doors needs to be removed periodically with LIMEAWAY.

I have noticed that during the Winter, the water coming out of the cold water tap is not as warm as it is in the Summer.

YOU are right Hancie!
We live in Hadley too.
Nothing different than in Ohio. I have a firm rule to wipe down the shower with a squeegee (sp?) and wipe off the chrome. The only person that follows it is me, same as in Ohio.
Have had no calcium build up in toilets. Drink filtered water from fridge.
It may be the cause of all of my new wrinkles. I hadn't thought of that. :ohdear:

Lol!
The tap water without the filtration system is a lot healthier for you than the unregulated bottle water one purchases at the store. Look up contaminated bottled water on the internet and you will not buy bottled water again.

We had a water softener in NJ and liked the feel of the water and the savings on soap, etc. When we move to TV we got a water softener and like it. We did go through a spell where we turned it off because of some health problems and could really tell the difference. After the problems went away, we restarted the softener and feel good again.
We too noticed spots on the chrome fixtures in the tub and shower when we first moved here. In fact, we had the fixtures replaced. Since installing the softener we have had no problem with spotting.
We deal with All-in-One Water and Solar (352 326-9595).

I have lived in the Village of Amelia for 2 1/2 yrs. and one of the first things I noticed was the poor water taste. I'm sure there are a lot of chemicals added to ensure that it is perfectly safe for all the residents. I drink a lot of water and solved the taste problem with a very inexpensive Britta water filter you can buy almost anywhere. I've never had a problem with calcium or lime build up and spray down my shower with Arm & Hammer "Clean Shower" after every use. I suggest you give the water filter a try before you invest in a very expensive whole house system. Most of the time you don't have to use soft water. Good luck!

Renegade,
Like Zcaveman, I had a water softener system in NJ, definitely miss it here and plan on getting one as as soon as I move into my new home. I immediately noticed the difference in the water when I began renting in Bonita 2 months ago: my hair isn't "silky and soft", same soaps I used in NJ don't lather at all here, dishes have white spots using same dishwashing detergent I used in NJ. Can't comment on the taste of the water as I drink bottled water, and haven't noticed any difference in the plumbing hardware as I haven't been here long enough. I plan to find a local Culligan authorized dealer like I did in NJ, and purchase my own "salt" in Home Depot/Lowes just like I did in the past. Six yrs ago, cost me $1,200 to purchase/install equipment from Culligan, bought my own salt at HOme Depot for $7/bag so maintenance was next to nothing. Was a great investment for my quality of life, and i plan to do it again.

Suggest a "whole house" water softener. I listened to sales pitches from several companies, each saying theirs was "the best and only one to buy". Prices started around $6000 and then with various "discounts" which were found the longer we talked usually got the "Special Price" down to $2000, or so. Did some research and discovered one company makes almost all the softeners under different brand names. Sears brand is the exact same product as the most recognized name brand and expensive one quoted to me. I called the salesman to come back for another visit and answer some questions. My one question was "Explain to me the exact differences between your product and the Sears product". He admitted he couldn't and left. Bought Sears and had them install it for around $700-800 four years ago. Very well pleased! Do your homework first. Hope this helps.

The water is hard. If you have it tested most of the hardness comes from limestone. Not bad for you but it is hard. We put in a softener and a whole house filter. You can buy a softener from Lowe's or HD for between $400 & $600. The filter costs about $50. We had a plumber install both the softener and filter and as I remember it was $280. He was there about 4 hours.

Like RENEGADE ,, I am looking for something other than a soft water conditioner
that uses salt. First of all, we had one up north., and it was too soft .... and I really didn't like buying and putting in salt all the time.
I would like opinions on KINETICO or EASY WATER systems or whole house filtration systems. Costs for ( ___sq foot)... ?? Need filters etc changed ??? No more build up ??
THANKS for any tips.... and NO , I do not want a "cold call" from a water place.

Our rental was in St. Charles, and the first night I went to drink water out of the tap; it tasted like it had dead fish floating in it. That's got to be the nastiest tasting tap water I've ever had. I bought spring water from the supermarket the next morning and we used it in the coffee pot and just to drink. I've never had to use bottled water to make coffee before.
I don't care what bottled water might or might not be contaminated with...whatever it is, it doesn't make me sick, and it doesn't taste like dead fish.

Our management person says he flushes the toilets, runs the showers, and turns on the faucets once a week. I believe him. When we left July 3rd and returned Sept. 9th, our toilets and showers all had thick brown stains. We have a lot of iron in our well water up north, and it discolors the fixtures there if you don't keep up with it, but not nearly as much as our home in TV. But in all honesty, it tastes OK to me. When we arrive tomorrow for a couple of weeks(:pepper2:), I'm curious to see how bad the stains are this time.

I thought the water in St. Charles tasted pretty nasty too when we were there in March. We also bought spring water from the supermarket.
I didn't have time to install a whole house filter then but that will be one of my first projects when we return in a couple of weeks.

There's a way more refreshing drink in TV. Comes in lots of flavors. They serve it everywhere! :crap2:

We don't have stains in johns here in TV.... BUT during hot weather the water smells bleachy. I think they have to add more then to keep it microbe free. No fish taste in Hadley since we've been there.
