Jewelry store? How could they not have spent a couple of bucks for a camera? Two skinny guy and a fat guy? They should split up or pick up a villager. One skinny guy?

That's one problem with having an alarm on a building with windows. They can smash and grab quite a lot before the police arrive, I think ADT advertised an average of 5 to 6 minutes. I haven't paid attention but I wonder if any of the stores in Villages retail spaces have those sliding security doors inside that they would close at night. Maybe they are not allowed as they might give the wrong signal to potential buyers here. If that's the case I would think there will be more of the same happening around town in the future now that they seem to have gotten away with this one. My guess, and it's only based on a feeling that I have is these 3 are not from the area, maybe from Orlando, Tampa, or the coastal areas and that they are experienced.

Very possible, but all /we/ can go by is what's in the report. And based on the report, there's no reason why any of /us/ should be jumping to conclusions, or wondering how someone or cameras can tell what color they are. We don't have access to enough information to even ask that question.

T.... If that's the case I would think there will be more of the same happening around town in the future now that they seem to have gotten away with this one....
I hope Law Enforcement & those in charge of TV Security are able to brainstorm something to discourage more of this and prevent TV from becoming targeted as "easy pickins' " for crime. Not sure what that may be, given how brazen thieves are becoming nationwide. I do recall that when I once took a late-night 'Workman' transport from MCO to Brownwood about 1am, the majority of the Square was VERY dark. Just a thought but maybe at minimum some extremely bright motion sensor floodlights on the Squares' streets with Security personnel monitoring via the safety of indoor cameras so they do not risk being shot in a confrontation?
I hope I am overreacting.
I feel awful for this store owner. If it's the same store I visited last year, it was stocked with beautiful new inventory and irreplaceable estate pieces on consignment that these thieves can only sell for pennies on the dollar.

Sometimes common sense and real danger have to trump politically correct directives. And ignore some of these new "directives" and this new "religion" that tells us what to think and what to say.
I don't care what color a person is that has the lack of morals to steal things from someone's legitimate and ethical business. I care that they are caught and stopped. If they have a description tell it and show it and distribute it throughout the State.

Two suspects are being sought in the theft of liquor from Winn-Dixie at Pinellas Plaza.
The two suspects entered Winn-Dixie liquor store on July 26, according to the Wildwood Police Department. The suspects walked to the back of the store and entered an employee-only stock room, where they grabbed one case of 12 750ml bottles of Hennessy Cognac and one 750ml bottle of Avion Silver Tequila before running out of store. They ran into the parking lot, entered a possible Black Chrysler 300, and fled the area.
The police provided the following descriptions:
Suspect 1 – Skinny, dark skinned male, facial hair, wearing a dark colored shirt with a light-colored pattern on it, and dark colored shorts.
Suspect 2 – Heavy set, dark skinned female, wearing a light-colored shirt and short and a light-colored hair cap/net.

Do you think if “bad men with an ax” smashed a window at Citizens First, they’d haul away the cash? There are layers of security in place to prevent that. Jewelry stores typically have similar security measures in place. Duh?

I think that we have had a very surprising two events in The Villages just in the last week.
I think that those people that have Jewelry Stores and sell Liquor... and possibly all of us will have to reconsider how safe we are. I watched the "bad" stuff begin to be reported MORE frequently in surrounding areas, particularly Mt. Dora, in the past couple of years.
I think that people may have to change some of their defenses. Some of their feelings of security are now challenged. I hope they get these folks and that this doesn't change forever all of our safe feelings here.
Please don't say "Duh". That hurts people's feelers.
I am from an area and lifetime that didn't lock doors. I don't know if it is drugs or just entitlement that makes people steal stuff. It is wrong and it makes me mad.

Loosey goosey security?
Jewelry store takes mid to high end to the vault every night, in trays that can be replaced quickly in am.
Many high end items never leave the vault.
There are designated item trays in the cases of low end items. If you do not vault High end trays, those items, your insurance policy does not cover those items. Those items not requiring removal are covered and usually amount to deductable. Most smash and grab empty the cases, taking more than a few minutes. Cameras have more time to record, giving more time for alarm companies.
To acquire insurance, you must have a vault, and hold a percentage of goods, and stored when store is not open. A alarm system in place with a silent alarm, and Audible that can be set.
If you are an independent store, contents. holds all of your wealth. You use as much security as you have available to you. While leaving the easly replaced inexpensive in cases.
My family owns 3 multi generation high end jewelry stores. A smash and grab during closing hours is not their worry.
The fear come when it happens during business hours.
Chitown
08-07-2021, 07:18 AM
How could any business whether it would be in Brownwood Square , Lake Sumter Landing Square or Spanish Springs not have a burglar alarm system in place with a very loud outside ringer? The minute glass is broken or a door is breached and extremely loud burglar alarm sounds making the thieves want to retreat as quickly as possible. A loud outside ringer gives the security vehicle which is in the Square all night long a heads up that a burglary is in progress. That patrol car could very easily then notify the Wildwood Police Department. The problem that currently exists is that if that patrol vehicle is three or four blocks away currently it would have no idea that someone is breaking into a business without the audible alarm.

Yeah, they can come to the rampart and dump the boiling oil when the thieves leave. It makes identification easy. Just point to the writhing, screaming oily mass on the sidewalk.
On a bit more thread appropriate note, a steel door with a magnetic lock will stop just about everything but a vehicle attached battering ram. I have family who owned Jewelry stores for years and the thieves attempted but could not breach the steel door with the mag lock. They got it mangled a bit, but couldn't get through.

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised that crime happens at the squares, or anywhere else in the villages.
The summer riots of 2020 were a super-spreader event for a crime wave that has infected the nation, particularly in our cities. Lawlessness begets lawlessness. That coupled with the anti-cop sentiment, official notices from mayors to basically stand down, and lack of consequences has resulted in thugs running the streets with impunity. It was only a matter of time before the chaos crept into the leafy suburban areas here.

I hate political correctness, but I don’t think this is an example of political correctness. A number of ethnicities have “dark skin”, and if the videos only show that dark skin without clearly being one ethnicity or another, then singling out the thieves as any one of them may keep people from considering criminals from some other group. This does let off the hook all the criminals with light-colored skin. This is just part of an accurate police description. Let’s hope the bad guys are caught soon and made to pay.

I doubt that this was conjecture. Would people be reluctant to think they were white?
IMO I don't care what color they are. The big picture IS that life in TV Land tries to be in a "bubble", but the whole US society is drowning in crime, chaos, and violence.......violence on airlines........increased road rage. We have state governments trying to subvert the will of the voters. We have people and their leaders making decisions to hurt the general health of the public. We have unwanted illegal immigration. Against this background of CHAOS and social confusion, is it any WONDER why locally we see criminal activity - the WONDER is why there is NOT more?
Hospitals are becoming full and school openings around the country will further feed the virus beast. People's patience and tempers are near a breaking point. Life is far from the "normal" and happy days of the remembered childhoods of TV Land residents. Today, the US is rapidly becoming a 3rd world nation of corruption and chaos. So, IMO this jewelry store break-in is just an example of what TV Land residents will have to get used to in the near future. I wish that I could predict otherwise!

It may show up especially if they catch them. They will have to sell the jewelry and could make a mistake while doing that.

You would think with all the availability for dark skin people to work in television commercials there would be no need to break the law.
That is actually VERY funny and in a very subtle way! It is like Socrates reborn!

I have to agree with that conclusion. And the future does not look too bright for improvement.

I see that you don't think very highly of your neighbors do you? It must be miserable for you here.
I like my neighbors and the average people in TV Land. I am NOT fond of the greed and avarice displayed by the rich and powerful. I am NOT fond of the tax structures that encourage EXCESS wealth and power. I am NOT fond of the particular governmental carve-out set up especially for TV Land - it seems IMO to be like dictator-lite. TV Land - similar to capitalism - has a lot to offer, but should be STRONG enough to tolerate criticism. I am simply TRYING to criticize in a historically American-style thoughtful and helpful manner. Thank you!

That may or may not have been the original point of the thread. However, the preponderance of the racist posts that followed may reveal some deep psychological fears and attitudes of this older generation living in TV Land. It is not pretty - seeing America divided into tense, waring TRIBAL camps. Hating on "the OTHER".
Excessive hating "the other" has historically lead to national destruction (WW2). We live in tense times - let us all HOPE that we get through this in one piece as a country.

Haven't seen this in the Sun. Oh, still haven't seen the June 6 car going over the Belle Glade Calusa #7 Bridge either. Wonder if the break in is even reported as an "incident" in the police blotter as the Calusa incident was not despite about 6 police cars, fire trucks and EMS.
And wasn't there an incident at World of Beer in Brownwood?
Guess per the Sun this stuff hasn't really happened, not here. If they don't report it it didn't really happen.

Pretty sure that's the point of the description. If whoever is reporting this couldn't tell anything more specific than "dark skin," then "dark skin" IS the best they can do.
In a dark store, in the middle of the night, where the criminals are fully clothed and masked and wearing gloves, it's a wonder anyone could even tell that their skin was light or dark at all.

In describing law breakers, it is no longer allowed to say black, white, hispanic Asian. And sometimes that keeps people from catching law breakers.
In the instance this week of the stealing of liquor, on the online news, they were described and there were pictures of them. They were black.

Very often not very helpful in finding the crooks.
If someone of a particular race has committed a crime see no reason not to say their race.
As someone once said "if you do not want to do the time do not commit the crime."

You contradict yourself in a very short post.
In your first sentence, you say that it's no longer allowed to state that criminals are black, white, Latinx, or Asian. In your third sentence, you say they WERE described.
Regardless, there's no rule anywhere that I know of saying that you're not "allowed" to describe a criminal that you saw.
You might want to check your phrasing, to ensure that you don't use known derogatory words in the descriptive, but yes you may absolutely say so if it is pertinent to the context of the story.
On the other hand, if you bring up an entire thread JUST to point out that black people are doing something bad...
then maybe you need to check your privilege. I haven't seen YOU do this at all.
But there are people who DO this kind of thing, and that is called race-baiting. It's an actual thing, with an actual name.

Nothing. There was something that happened out in the Square somewhere, and the World of Beer is also in the Square. People love bringing trash "articles" from the online news here. That's probably why it gets **** out when you try typing the website URL here. The admin of this forum doesn't want to deal with that trash.

Pedantics again...fine.
It seems like. One might consider the possibility that. Perhaps.
"Looks like" is an expression, in addition to a statement of visual observation. Blind people use this expression sometimes to express that perhaps some evidence provided about a thing, could lead one to believe a particular possibility.
"Seems like" would alleviate all confusion...

Can white people race bait other white people?
I am indeed one lucky duck. You can say I was indeed privileged.
I do the best I can trying to figure things out. I certainly do not think anyone should look down on anyone. I think most of us have the ability to make moral decisions and choose to be very careful with money and try to avoid being addicted so that we are compelled to steal money or objects from other people.
I am sure that I have prejudged others. It happens a lot, and not just about race.

Google the Pinellas Winn Dixie robbery, the two suspects were described as "dark skinned" as well... This has been a trend for some time, keeps the rest of us from drawing 'erroneous' conclusions reinforcing stereotypes we might hold. All I'm saying is either give an accurate description or don't give one at all, simple.
