When you go shopping: Paper, Plastic or Bring Your Own?

I am in the Bring Your Own category.

I have thermal reusable bags for frozen things.

I use plastic for everything else because that's what I use for the small under-sink waste can in each bathroom, and what I use to clean the litter box.

I also make sure to fill up those bags at the supermarket to capacity. Six-packs and any container with a handle stays out of any bags. So one bag might have a dozen cans of cat food plus any canned people-food I bought that week. I "protect" eggs by putting them at the BOTTOM of a bag and covering them with any breads I need and super-light-weight containers such as a couple of ramen-noodle packages.

On a really BUSY grocery-shopping week I might have up to 6 plastic bags total, including multiple visits if I run low on any one or two items.

We do the vast majority of our shopping at Sams and Aldis and there are no bags.

We get new bags every time as it is hygienic and return the old ones to the store’s recycling bin. Also use some around the house for various things.

I prefer the normal cheaper plastic grocery bags but my county in Maryland outlawed them so my local store started using heavier reusable plastic bags that you can buy for 10 cents. For months you got your first 5 free but they stopped that. luckily I built up a stock of 40 or 50 bags and have to take them in with me now. I keep them in the trunk so can still do an impromptu trip, I just have to remember to take 8 or so in with me. If I need more than that I just put the extra items in the cart unbagged and bag them when I get to the trunk.

We like plastic to reuse them for bathroom trash, clean out the car or poop bags if we run out etc. Up north, plastic bags are outlawed in our city

We use our own bags in UK, as SM's do not supply them any more unless you buy them.
We have used the same bags for years, chuck them in the car after use, and never clean them.
Never caught a thing from a used bag in all that time.
Cleaning is so overrated.
Live in squalor, dirty people never get ill, only the clean ones get sick!:icon_wink:
