I knew what it was in 1968 at 16 and half, $400 dollars cash got me 56 Chevy 2dr belair with 283, 4 speed, tuck and roll interior, dual steel packs and rocket 5 spokes. In 1969 got 57 two post, front straight axle, 396 and 4 speed. Paid whopping $550 for it. My aunt brought left over new 66 Plymouth Belvedere II 2 dr hard top 383 for 1995.00. Fall of 66.

I miss the good old days. Might be easier today but life was so simple, or it seemed, back then.

In 1974 I bought a used 1963 Dodge lancer with slant 6 engine, 3 speed on column for $300. Difference from back then is I had a part time dishwasher job and was able to save enough to buy the car and buy insurance without help from my parents. Today the same job cannot earn enough to buy a car and insurance which has become disproportionately expensive.

Yup, cars are more expensive now even when accounting for inflation. But they are also WAY safer than cars in the past and that has a cost. and frankly modern cars don't rust out like they did back then (especially if you lived in the North and had to deal with winters and road salt). And the 70s? Most cars were junk. Absolute junk. Detroit was shipping garbage. Yes, used cars were cheaper. but so was everything else. but guess what? so was the average wage

Loved the video! I remember going with my dad to the Chicago Auto Show to shop around. Also, made trips to the local Ford and Chevy dealerships. He decided to order a Camaro from Thompson Chevrolet. Once received, he had it loaded up with Ziebart to prevent rust (HA!).

Thanks, Dad for eventually giving me that 1969 Huggar Orange Camaro!

Back then as is now car sales people I still p i a. And they're still have finance manager that will up up cell you if they can. Saturn what is a great brand as far as selling cars. Tesla is doing direct sales today but every other car brand is still in the 1950s
