Hello-
I'm fairly new to the villages and would like to know if there is a place to register your cell phone number to receive text notifications of emergency situations that may include severe weather alerts, fire, crime etc that may effect the area around your home.
Thank you

The emergency management depts, will send out weather alerts, fire and crime alerts are not sent out. There is a separate app 'pulse point' that will send out alerts for medical emergencies, fire, and traffic accidents. I have never seen any alerts for crimes. I think the Sumter county system is alert sumter try an internet search, I signed up years ago.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has an app. They'll send out weather, traffic/road conditions, crime alerts, etc.
It has Most Wanted, Inmate Search, Sex Offenders and other options.

Make sure to sign up for the weekly District bulletin at Districtgov.org. In times of emergency, TV will help keep you informed.

You can sign up for alerts on your phone through FEMA as well. This info sheet provides directions for both Apple and Android. I get notifications on my phone and watch.

For weather, use the smart phone app from NOAA, great for information about lightening on the golf course on a nice partly cloudy day, so you have a bit of a warning of how close danger might by

Sign up with the electric company for text alerts for electrical outages, which may be obvious if home, but not if not. .

for the district news, as stated above,

For everything else? not sure the need

like the local news web site, can generation neurosis :22yikes:

Eagle County, Colorado switched to Everbridge... hate it... unreliable and unreadable. Used to get timely, pertinent info from a local source, now... who knows how old the "emergency" alert is. If you sign up with Everbridge, definitely register with the other sources listed in this thread as well.

We have it and will continue but every once in a while they will send out a notification by both cell and landline of something that might be of great importance to a particular family but not so important to the rest of us.

We have gotten this several times in the middle of the night, understand why they do it but be prepared.
