View Full Version : Why aren’t the rows in parking lots marked with a number or letter?

Hello-
I am fairly new to the villages and have gone shopping and parked my car in many lots in the Villages.
I have noticed that the rows in many of the parking lots are not designated with a number or letter….which sure would make it easier to find my car.
Does anyone use a good parking app?
Thanks
Julie

Mark and remember your car position from the nearest building/entrance.
Even my wife can do it, and she can get lost in a restroom!

The Waze app has a parking reminder. Tap the icon on the map for your location and select parking reminder.

Imo all parking lots should be slanted one way traffic. Easier to park, easier to see when backing out. IMO reduced accidents.

If/when you really don't know where your car is parked - hit the alarm button on the key fob and you should be able to find it rather quickly. Another hit to the alarm button and the alarm will stop sounding.

Take a photo of your car with your phone as you're walking away, then refer to it when coming out of the store. I'm guessing you really don't like parking garages, with multiple levels?

If you have an Apple phone (iPhone) and the phone connects to your car via Bluetooth then just open Apple Maps on your phone and your parked car will show.

Just make sure that the feature is turned on. Settings/Maps/Show Parked Location. I think it’s normally on by default.

I would expect Android phones to have the same feature but I don’t know if they do.

Good suggestion. If it was my parking lot I would not want to pay for the painting of all the numbers.
A compromise might be to post a sign at the beginning of each row with a number. When you get out of the car count the number of spaces to the end of the row. I would also take a picture of the sign if I might forget.
Noting the relationship of the row I parked in to the building is the way I keep track now.

I understand that there aren't any near TV, but I travel a lot. ;) In fact, the last trip to TV was through MCO and they are really tricky in that they have (had?) two multi-level garages, on opposite sides of the terminal - that were almost exactly the same. lol I also get the reference to how many cars look the same, but if a pic is taken with an identifiable background, it would make it easier for even the most 'directionally challenged.' Heck, the first rule you learn hiking is to look behind you occasionally, so as to be able to identify landmarks.

I agree. Of course wherever the parking lots are laid out in such a fashion there is always some bozo going the wrong way down the aisle

If you use a map app, you can "drop a pin". It's very helpful when walking back as it will guide you to within a few meters of your car. We've used it at Brownwood square.

Did not realize this. I did note sometimes my car came up on a map and I wondered why.
Thank you

Most lots are not that big as at malls or parking garages. Most park outside the door of a store. For us we are in the golf cart so it is easy.

No need for it to be connected by bluetooth for that feature especially since BT in your car is OFF when you park. it's strictly GPS based off your iPhone. It works great .... even gives you "turn by turn" and "step by step" directions with an arrow showing where to walk.

We got totally "parking lost" at the Orlando Premium Outlets a few weeks back and it took us within 2 cars of our parking location. It even had the outlet mall mapped store by store in it's database so it helped me find all the restrooms !!!!

No it doesn’t work that way.

Your phone needs to be connected to the car via Bluetooth or Car Play.

If it was purely GPS based then if you were driven by your neighbor your phone would show his car parked.

I often park near Target on 441, and spend a few hours walking down to Ulta and back. I make a day of the shopping trip, and usually stop at Brooklyn Bagels for "brunch" either on the way to Ulta or on the way back. I always stop at Petco to pick up food for the cat, then sometimes at TJ Maxx or Target (or sometimes both), and pick up whatever freebies I've earned at CVS.

It's an awesome walk, I get to do plenty of window shopping, and get lots accomplished.

I never have to remember which spot my golf cart is in because I always park it by itself, sort of in that little crook of the parking lot between Staples and the little strip-mall that has Moe's and Jersey Mike's in it.

I rarely ever see any cars anywhere near mine, so I just have to look for the golf cart that's all by itself, and there it is.

Get a handicapped tag and park near the entrance. Most drivers I have seen in the Villages sure qualify for one.

Walking into the store, I say over and over (as an example) "the X in Publix", "the X in Publix", "the X in Publix". Hopefully I retain it by the time I walk out of Publix.

Once you put down paint it will have to be maintained. And that will cost money.

Because it costs money, and most Villagers, including myself, don't suffer from senile dementia (yet):1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

You misunderstood what I said. Bluetooth is OFF when you park your car so it can't help you find it by bluetooth. It is purely GPS based because without a GPS ON YOUR PHONE it wouldn't work. It has nothing to do with the GPS in your car only bluetooth that senses when you stop because it disconnects from the phone when you turn off the car (or cart). You don't even need Carplay because it works on my golf cart that has bluetooth but no GPS and no Carplay.

How to find your car with Siri and the Maps app on iPhone | iMore (https://www.imore.com/how-find-your-car-maps-app#works)

How the Parked Car feature works

You don't need Apple's CarPlay to get this feature: As long as your car has a Bluetooth stereo and you own an iPhone 6 or later, you should be able to use the Parked Car feature.
The feature works via Bluetooth Low-Energy pairing: When you turn off your car, it disconnects your iPhone from the car's Bluetooth connection. When that happens, your iPhone automatically makes a note of where the pairing disconnected and adds a Parked Car marker down in that spot.

No need for it to be connected by bluetooth for that feature especially since BT in your car is OFF when you park. it's strictly GPS based off your iPhone.

When you park, your phone has to be connected to your car via Bluetooth. Once you turn off the car the phone obviously disconnects from it but the location is saved in Apple Maps.

Then, again, obviously the phones GPS chip shows the car location.

Your first sentence phrasing is misleading because Bluetooth must be ON when you park your car.

There are a lot of things that would make too much common sense. Malls post letters on their tall lamps in the parking lots. Another small thing that I am ticked about is that there are not enough curb cuts on several of the large strip malls off of Route 441 in The Villages. I am also waiting for just one police person to give a speeding ticket to the golf cart drivers where the supermarket malls due to speeding
