Today visiting a new dr. I got the clipboard and forms to complete and found I was becoming angry. Why are they collecting data on me, why do I have to sign agreement with long paragraphs of legalese. It occurred to me I have been feeling more aggravated more often. I believe more of us may be feeling oppressed and annoyed daily: bad drivers, media opinions, demands for personal information, 24 hr news, overcharges, cancelled flights, new regulations, higher prices, mask mandates robot calls, cable companies, shoddy service. Remember the film where a news anchor lifts his window and yells "I've had it and I won't take anymore! " How do we keep smiling agreeably through it all as senior gentlewomen and gentlemen are expected to do?

*yawn* Me? I realized that it's taken about 5/6 years for me to get over the bad baggage I brought me with here with me. Then I just accepted my age and whether the days news is good or bad I've done my bit and am able to let others perceived bad actions just pass me by. Sure I have a stupid meter that goes off scale on a rare occasion, but on the whole I just expect the stupid people to not change their stupid ways. That has helped me immensely. I still meet those can not adapt to getting older and lack any good manners....so now I just shrug and figure getting annoyed at them wastes some seriously great days I can have...we can not fix them or change their mind...ever!

So modern medicine works really well with as much data as you can put into the engine. There are prediction engines in the EMR which will tell your dr where your risks are with the correct data. I have seen the prediction engine on my data, and I don't like the answer because i am expected to have a heart attack within 10 years.
But for your doctor to have a complete picture of you and who you are dealing with, he needs as much as you can give him, otherwise he won't treat you for something you have which you know about but don't tell him.
As far as the rest of your sensitivity to "negative" issues, the human mind is wired to emphasize the negative for survival, and in the transition from a long period of relative calm to the pandemic and other geo political issues, you should think about mental protection strategies, as the world is going down hill at the moment from cooperative games to competitive games, and to enjoy TV, you have to live more in the bubble than not. . .
good luck, and talk to a professional if these issues prevent you from enjoying your current life

I have perfected a doddery old man act when in situations that require it.
I exsasperate jobsworths with innane questions, in the end they say, "let me fill the forms/sort this for you!"
Shop assistants fetch and carry for me.
I get help crossing the road from lovely ladies, and Hells Angels.
Luggage is put up on the racks for me when on trains.
I allways get a seat on public transport.
I melted old "Steel Heart" who guards the doctor from patients with the simple statement, "You remind me of my mother. She was so kind just like you"
She can't do enough for me now.
It is amazing the things I get away with.
I often think I might as well become that old guy permanently.
Maybe I am already that guy!:icon_wink:

When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life - unacceptable to me. I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake. Until I accept life completely on life’s terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes.

Some Villagers who have lived here for 10-15 years are used to this kind of attitude. Was not like this in 2000+ Its getting worse with Covid agreed. If we all worked together it would help but the A & E crowd loom larger each year. (Attitude and Entitlement). We are all entitled to have a safe happy retirement, but wont get it now..... We all worked so hard for this and thanks to some it will be tough to remain safe.

But we can certainly try to change things and you think are out of our control. I live in a wonderful state where you have government workers that actually listen to your complaints. 2 years ago the road leading up from my Village have dozens of pot holes that I had written about. I'm fine really. The right person to talk to who told me how to complain and they spent half a million dollars to repave part of the road. Every few months I email the various government officials responsible for painting lines on the roads we're clearing the trash on the sides and most of the time I get good actions. Some things I don't but like you said you can't worry about everything or getting mad. In all honesty and some people get older they do need drugs but also he might just be an attitude Readjustment or need for a real vacation. PS I stop giving my SS number also as it happens to be a federal law saying you don't have to and I have not had one doctor refuse my money

I think you’ve mentioned something that is a lot of the problem: 24 hour news. If you want the lower your stress and anger level, start by completely cutting out television news. ALL of it. It is designed to keep you watching, and it does that by alarming you and angering you and making you hate. How do you watch ANY television news without concluding that our country is on the brink of destruction and that all cities are cesspools of iniquity and that most people in minority groups are criminals? Yet that isn’t true. This summer I drove in a triangle from here to the Canadian border, to Denver, and back to here. What a beautiful, well-ordered, peaceful country we live in.
Also, stop reading any “news reports” on Facebook or YouTube or other sites. Most of that stuff isn’t true. Again, it is teaching you to fear and hate and be angry.
If you need a weather report, use the very accurate online site WeatherUnderground. If you need news from the country, believe it or not, read The Villages Sun. It focuses on good news and gives you paragraphs of what is happening around the country. It doesn’t include everything, but you are in a dark place, and that may be enough news for you right now.

These things don’t bother me. Why? Because I take responsibility for my own emotions. I make ME mad. I make ME angry. I make ME sad. No ONE else can make ME angry..or sad… or happy for that matter. MY perceptions of things control my internal thoughts and thereby my reaction to those things. If one doesn’t like the way they are reacting/feeling then you have the control to change your perception of the situation and your emotional reaction. It’s the whole glass half full, half empty thing.
How do you take responsibility for your emotional responses when you don’t like them? Mindfulness help. Step out of yourself and look at the situation from a fresh perspective. Is this circumstance going to impact me 10 years from now? Is it going to matter ? Etc? When you emotionally get into negativity you are hurting yourself the most because it actually impacts the cells in your body. Meditation daily is also helpful. There are plenty of books out there to help view even the worst situations and get through it without a overwhelming impact on yourself. It’s only up to you.

Here in Michigan, (University of Michigan) electronic medical records have eliminated those annoying forms. You go online check the boxes, record any changes and are done in 5 minutes. You can check in online, similar to airline flights, and let them know with your app when you’ve arrived. Florida is behind. Although I do recognize not everyone has a smart phone…but for those that do.

I know what you feel like with that request. Whenever I fill out forms, I ask for a copy and include it in my folder for that doctor for future meetings. Sometimes when I speak with the doctor's secretary, I ask are there any forms that I need to fill out. If there are would you send them to me so that I can have them before the appt.

As far as the Dr.'s office goes, they need as much information about your health history as you can give them in order to treat you properly. If you knew how many doctors, nurses, and health facilities are sued for frivolous reasons, you would understand the need for all the forms of "legalese" you must sign. Even that doesn't stop it from happening 100% of the time. 24 hour news? Turn off the TV and go for a walk or take a golf cart ride, or maybe just watch a funny movie or sitcom. Take up golf or another sport if you don't already do it. Join a club, go play cards. There are so many things to do here in The Villages. You can also obtain an app on your phone that will cut down on robo calls significantly. There is one called RoboKiller. It does a good job. As far as the rest of it, there has always been bad drivers, shoddy service from some places, etc. You can do your part to help reduce prices and improve the economy with your vote! You are not powerless! I have to admit gas prices right now are annoying! chilout

It is all about laughing & smiling. Every morning when I get up and finish brushing my teeth I’ll look in the mirror and say who the hell is that? I smile or laugh I kiss my wife in the morning I kiss my wife at night before I go to bed and we laughed a lot. If you can’t laugh at yourself then you have a problem. So to answer your question keep on smiling, tell jokes - as the saying goes “don’t worry be happy.”

LOL. Had the same type of feelings at my dentist appointment this week. Was handed a yearly update form to document any changes. Immediately handed it back to them and said no changes except for my birthdate. Made me feel better and after the pause, quizzical look and finally laughter; I think it made the receptionist feel better too.

I pick my battles, and I get over immediate annoyances.
Bad drivers - only bother me when I encounter them. The annoyance continues, usually, until it's time to take a left at a traffic light. Then my annoyance of the driver disappears, replaced by the annoyance of having to take a left at pretty much any traffic light, anywhere. That lasts only until I actually take the left and I continue on my merry way, oblivious to anything other than driving. I don't usually listen to the radio at all and when I do, it's a music station not a news station.
People in general - I've already concluded that the human race is thoroughly borked. We are doomed, we have no hope of survival, full stop.
And since I acknowledge this, things become easier to tolerate, and the things I *can* change, or work toward repairing, become much clearer to me.
Dog pooping on my lawn? No biggie, I know whose dog it likely is. Next time I see the neighbor I just give her a friendly scolding. I'll joke with her that if it continues, she'll have to mow my lawn so that I don't have to get dog poop splattered all over my shoes when the mower blade whirls over it (that never happens to me, by the way, but it's a good way to get the point across). That is, if I even remember it happened the next time I see her. I usually forget, because it just isn't all that important.
Some self-entitled moron hogging FOUR spaces with their golf cart in front of the postal station? Easy peasy. I snort, make a few passive-aggressive comments under my breath about how tiny those spaces are, why, look at that ENORMOUS postal truck, it barely fits between the lines of their singular space! Then I get my mail, and leave. Event forgotten moments later.
These are certainly annoying things. So I get annoyed, and then I get over them. My battles are more important. Reducing the risk of virus spread without giving in to fear or conspiracy, making some attempt at caring for my own piece of the planet, and hopefully when I die, knowing the universe was just a touch better for my having existed, than it was before I was born.

The reasons are endless. Escape there does not seem to be one. You call a company, typical response. If, you xxxxx push 3, etc. Longest I've seen is about 15 no one can remember 15 options. You push 16 and it goes through the entire list. Short of temper?
I had four issues going at the same time. I discovered my nice limit is 2-3.
Robot calls? I play with them. So glad you could call I was just thinking I need sky blue pink ???????? I was just in the middle of making my famous sauce, please hold I must stir it. Then you ask them if they think it needs dill? Then salt, then pepper. My best record is four ingredients. Imagine the villages sauce, robo call OLYMPICS. Perhaps, the reason when they call here they ask for my wife.
I suggest one day a week where you shut off the TV, shut of the computer, shut off the cell phone. Get some exercise or not. Take a nap or not. You can tell the world to stuff it but not until tomorrow. THIS IS YOUR DAY.

If you let others make you angry they have control over you. Take your life back, be happy.
Well said.

LOL. Had the same type of feelings at my dentist appointment this week. Was handed a yearly update form to document any changes. Immediately handed it back to them and said no changes except for my birthdate. Made me feel better and after the pause, quizzical look and finally laughter; I think it made the receptionist feel better too.
Realize it or not, the receptionist is doing as she is told. You are abusing someone that perhaps needs his or her job. The one to complain to is the dentist. Those forms are likely as instructed by the LEGAL STAFF.

I kind of agree with the OP, but I don't see any point at getting mad.
The issue I have is every time we go to a new doctor (dentist, whatever) we have to fill out the SAME forms with the SAME information over and over again.
There is supposed to be a national medical information records now. It should have ALL that information and it SHOULD be just a matter of walk in, prove you are you and they access all that and it fills their local system with information goodness.
The problem I expect is all the legacy systems doctors are using for their office that are not compatible with the national system - but, I have not worked in that field for 40 years, so I could be wrong. I am just saying at this point that is what SHOULD happen. It is long over due and certainly technically possible.

I wouldn’t want “ALL MY INFO” on a National database just think of the ramifications if a cyber geek got into it - worse the a compromised credit system.

If they are asking about your medical history and pills you take what is the harm?
They always ask for our SS number and that we leave blank.
Just put the last 4 digits. They need it to be sure they are treating the right patient.

I have to admit gas prices right now are annoying! chilout
O
If you are expecting an important call, pause RoboKiller until after you have received it. Saves a lot of headaches.
