Are the builder installed light fixtures covered under the 10 year new home warranty? The ballast went out on our laundry room fluorescent fixture and I don't want to do the dirty work if I don't have to. I'm assuming nobodies at the warranty department on the weekend. We are also the second owners and I have read that they won't cover anything after the original owner sells.

Normal life.

Change it to an LED tube.

We paid for an electrician to change out the "guts" of the fixture for LED bulbs. BEST thing we ever did. Love that bright crisp clean light so much, we changed out every other florescent bulb fixture in the house. We can now SEE everything in our garage so easily. We have a fixture in the attic too and the bright LED bulbs make a huge difference. The LED light is a bit too bright for our master closet so we only use one bulb in that fixture and it is perfect illumination for us.

Try to copy and paste see if works? Several types of lighting, strips or tubes. You use the old frame and just take the guts out.

You can just buy an "instant fit" LED replacement tube and there is no need to make any changes to the existing flourescent fixture.

Yeah, I'm going to go with a new led fixture. Never had a ballast go before. As for just putting in led tubes, I always thought non-flush fixtures are an eyesore. Apparently some led tubes will work if you take out the ballast and rewire things.

Good decision. I recommend "daylight" LED bulbs. Very bright.

Get the facts, not opinions. Call the warranty department. They are VERY helpful and can often reliable contractors if you need them.

Few are aware. While florescents last a real long time, the amount of light they put out falls over their life. If, I recall what I've read it falls by as much as half before the bulb flickers on and off and we are forced to say I need to replace the bulb. Also, florescent bulbs are not really suited for on and off applications. It s hard on the bulb, hard on the ballast and they do not come up to full brightness immediately.

Led bulbs it says they last for huge amounts of time. I've changed almost all the bulbs in my home to LED. I am too lazy to count the number of bulbs or the different types.
I can say that I have a small shopping bag full of led bulbs that have failed. Most used, perhaps are the ones in our outside lamp post. I replaced the incandescents with LEDS they use like 10% as much electricity and are now 9 years old. As I figure it
9x365 days=3285 days x 10 hours a day=32850 hours. I surely got my monies worth and they are still working

Teen year warranty is for structural issues. Lights come under the one year warranty. Replace the light with a LED fixture. Lowe's, Home Depot, or Wal Mart.

If you don't have experience with electrical work hire a licensed electrician to do it. For all the usual reasons, electrocution and burning your house down being two of the worst.

40-50,000 are typical for quality LED fixtures, and it's not the LED that fails but usually the power supply

My suggestion was to buy an LED tube designed to plug into a standard flourescent fixture. You can buy them at Lowes for about 9 dollars each. You just plug it in.

We did also. LED are so much brighter and use even less electricity than fluorescent bulbs

Not if the ballast bad, I have check but I bet the ballast still pulls more watts. To each his own. I have flush mounted fixture and got rid of all the dinosaur ballast technology.

Agree, some people can’t replace light bulb.

I watched the video. But, to me, it would be easier and make more sense to just buy a new LED fixture.

IMO not really the old frames are bigger as long as the plastic lens cover still good. The most new LED ones are much smaller and you have to hang the new fixture. The starter for LED much smaller and lighter and light strips or tubes stick with magnets. Two wires , ground, two tiny screws to hold the starter and you’re done. I’ve done both and prefer the old fixtures do to all room inside. But, that’s me.
