OK, wouldn’t anybody knocking on you’re door that you don’t know be strange? Maybe he got the wrong address?

Could have been a ruse to see if anyone was home.

I had a strange guy knocking at my door the other day as well. He was asking for donations for a public pool. I gave him a gallon of water.....

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

No, it was on the back of his auto and it was just the letter W inside a square in a field of blue. Then there was another letter and the word fan at the end.

Scam either soliciting something or scoping the house to see if anyone’s home to do something worse

Or, they could have made an honest mistake. The way the houses are numbered here, I have been known to go to the wrong address. Trust your gut. If it told you, scam, it probably was.

Still waiting for the punch line !!!!!!!!

Here's a couple more:

Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool.

I gave him a glass of water.
I love supporting the community.

I hate those people who knock on your door and tell you you need to get "saved" or you'll "burn"..

Stupid firemen.

I had a gorgeous naked woman knock on my door with a delicious looking casserole dish in her hand and a bottle of red wine under her arm, then I woke up from my dream and had a cup of coffee and a hard boiled egg for breakfast.

If you take this guy seriously which you should, then this is a great reason to have a camera doorbell at your house to record these things and then give them to the police. We all seem to forget that we are easy targets in today's world especially since we think there's no crime here

A comment above reminded me of an interaction I had a few weeks ago. As I was walking out my driveway a woman walking down the street struck up a conversation with me. We had a pleasant chat for a few minutes and I asked what she was looking for. She said she was looking for house number xxxx where she was supposed to be picking something up.

It only occurred to me later that the number didn't exist on my street. I thought it was an innocent mistake at the time but maybe it wasn't. Maybe looking for house number xxxx was another version of "looking for the golf cart that was for sale" and was just an excuse to be studying the houses in the neighborhood.

Not all of us are "easy targets." Many posters right here on this very forum brag about how they have firearms in their homes and aren't afraid to use them. And many other posters don't need firearms, and simply know when to open the door and when to yell through it.

Not all of us have started losing our sensibilities. In fact, most of us are still possessed of them. Very few seniors in The Villages are easy targets. They just get the most press. You don't read articles on the Daily Sun or that online rag or even here about how someone knocked on the door and no one answered it.

Anyone who thinks there’s no crime here is incredibly naive. Look at the news break app or village news. We are have crime all over here and outside of the Fenny area around 301 44 etc ! The drug busts the stealing the police chases. It’s not safer here than other places, it’s just a fact. Wildwood is a perfect example of that.

Most people here get their own cameras and ring doorbell. Regardless of the marketing script they tell you it’s not any safer here than anywhere else in central Florida. The costs to live here is much higher than the numbers they give you. Cable here is at least 150- a month lawn 80/100 not including fertilizing, shrub trimming 600- a year food 20-40% higher than most places water 20% higher since the villages paid cash for the water company HVAC averages 125 a month, amenity fees which are 166 a month now for new residents get raised twice a year with taxes, the bond on your house is 20% higher the bond interest rate on your house is at 8% per year. You have to pay 80 a year to get the daily sun newspaper, it’s 8- a month to get access online to book a tee time. To join a club or use a community center for activities fees are charged. The town squares have music and even though they don’t charge to listen it is paid for by the residents through maintenance fees. Nothing is free here because you pay eventually for it one way or another. The sales people here don’t provide potential buyers worth these costs. Their job is to sell you a house and will say anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. Look at other places like Top of the World or even closer to Orlando where you can have access to better shopping and variety. Look all over the place.

Our amenity fees do not pay for music in town squares. The merchants pay for the entertainment.

You don't have to pay for shrub trimming or grass cutting if you choose to do it yourself. You do not have to pay to join clubs unless they ask for annual dues to help defray the cost of when they hire entertainment or provide meals. You do not have to pay to join any of the activities that are offered by the Rec centers such as cards, dominos, chess, etc. Costs here are no worse than you would be paying where you come from.

i don't see very many of those, but a lot of my neighbors have that doorbell/camera thing. there's also an array of dogs, (various sizes) that just wait for a newcomer to walk by so they can set off the other dogs in a barking opus, lol. it gets funny, but we all know when a visitor enters. :icon_wink:

She did and… she is not wrong. And she didn’t list things like power washing the house regularly or painting it due to the climate, roof replacement due to hurricanes and hail more often than up north etc. It’s a good idea to have regular money if you buy in TV. Still, if you can afford it and you like what it has to offer - it’s the best!

Hail LOL, IMO now if you came from Midwest like Oklahoma, New, Mexico, Texas, or Kansas where Big hail can kill you. Pea or nickel size hail around here don’t damage roofs. Rare for hail big enough to do damage, damage usually comes from wind damage or small tornado.

My house is 19 years old and not one dent in exhaust vents from hail.

I find it funny that developers and districts owned property can have metal roofs but residents can’t.
