How to say "thank you for your help" in Arabic (https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the/arabic-word-for-2ccfd59dafd2b64a4f178e539a2a2df5dd690f4f.html)
I do hope that Afghanistan can move more towards a country with a rule of law rather than one based on a small number of people's interpretations of various religious texts.
I had a close friend at the U of Denver who was from the University of Mosul in Iraq. He worked in their library but got caught up in the religious based zealotry related to the Iran-Iraq war.
The library there was gutted by ISIS a few years ago. Bringing Books Back to Mosul University Library - Al-Fanar Media (https://www.al-fanarmedia.org/2021/04/bringing-books-back-to-mosul-university-library/)

Hopefully 20 years of some freedoms under U.S protection and the
free flow of information now days will help enlighten people in that part of the world. There is just so much ignorance in the world, one can only hope peace will reign someday. There's not much joy in the alternative.

It will never happen, its not a Nation in the true sense of the word. Its a country of tribes and thats all it will ever be.

No, the OP heading should read:
"Thank you to the people of the U.S. of America" for trying to help and civilize people still stuck in the 7th century.

The Abraham Accords brought peace and stability to a warring a part of the Middle East namely the UAE and Israel. So diplomacy can succeed. But Afghanistan had a corrupt central government and we were mislead by the military on progress toward a unified government. Could the country have been partitioned as North and South Korea were with an honest leadership? This part of the world gave us our number system as well as many excellent scientists and mathematicians.

True that. The only way it will ever be 'one nation' is, if one of the tribes gains extraordinary military might. So, in an 'unintended consequences' sorta way, we may actually be the factor that accomplishes that. You just can't make this stuff up.

Dream on, this country has been occupied by multiple invading forces over the decades always with the same result. These are tribal people who have been arguing and fighting for centuries. The only way you could ever change this country is to occupy it for a hundred or more years through multiple generations of youth and even then I’m not sure it would change.

I praise the brave Afghan citizens who have fought against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. I don't have the same respect for those who deny women the right to work and attend schools.
I hope the US has vetted refugees to ensure that they support values compatible with the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

But they didn’t fight, after 20 yrs of being propped up by America, the Afghanistan army 700,000 folded in three weeks! Many of their leaders fled or moved to Europe or America.
Not enough Afghans wanted freedom enough to fight for it! Very sad! We’re we being fooled by politicians for 20 yrs that the Afghans really wanted freedom enough to fight for it! There are no winners just losers

Afghan fighters fought because they were getting good pay from the US Government, Period!
Once they knew the United States was pulling out and their Afghanistan leader ran away like a chicken, they quit because they knew no pay was coming.

Very true if the citizens of Afghanistan wanted freedom they had a responsibility to fight for it. As long as we funded the govt they went thru the motions.
We should also destroy all of the military equipment the Taliban will be getting.
I cannot believe we had no idea the Taliban would be taking over in a matter of days.

Let's see, how to vett the refugees? I know! We can give them ALL truth serum and put them on a lie detector. As to American values? I see American values as figuratively and literally, "all over the map"! For example, a Texas Cattle Rancher would have different American values than a San Francisco rock and roll singer. They are BOTH Americans. I just wanted to point out that "American Values" is sort of a generic term.

After we eliminated the training camps and chased bin Laden out of Afghanistan, but stopped strangely without killing him, we should have left. No reason to stay for 20 years. The Russians were more brutal than we were and they could NOT stay there. Nation-building was some kind of rationalization to keep us there. The Afghans were FULL of corruption and we had OUR share. US MONEY was flying into various pockets on all sides there with NO good ACCOUNTING going on.
Likely, the future for Afghanistan involves civil war. And maybe even a war with Pakistan. It will be curious to see if Russia or China end up AHEAD because of this chaos?

We need to destroy the Afghan drug fields.
I suspect that to defoliate the poppy fields we would have to fly in at low altitude and low speed and have a pattern. I suspect that whatever aircraft we used would just be easy targets for shoulder-fired and other low-tech missiles.

Do you know that a VP about that time opposed the raid on the home in Pakistan that held bin Laden and resulted in his death? Maybe that accounted for the hesitation. Poor judgement.

Cannot bring myself to “thank” or even acknowledge such a terrorist organization, but appreciate their help in getting folks to the airport and out. And thanks to those who negotiated this exit.

When bush 2 when in said it would take at least 50 years of occupation. No free country has the patience or money to stay that long.
