View Full Version : Portable morgues-Central Florida Hospitals

Due to a surge in covid 19 hospital deaths and overcapacity at traditional morgues, mobile morgues are being sent to Central Florida hospitals. The epidemic is expected to peak in a few weeks. 90+% of the cases are with the unvaccinated.

What determines a "surge" in the death rate? I believe that I read that there were 284 Covid related deaths here since this started. Spaced out over a year plus, is that a lot more than usual? Stating the obvious, the infection rate is high but not more than last year, right? Not arguing, just wondering out loud. Then again, the OP stated "Central Florida" and that does encompass a larger area than I am referring to.

This news item is for the counties surrounding Orlando (https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/os-ne-coronavirus-morgue-relief-orange-20210827-ljpu6e3lhneshfk42cyivkbnam-story.html), not Sumter. There are bodies backlogged in funeral homes and cremation facilities. The morgues at hospitals are at or near capacity and there is no place to store or ship corpses. The state of Florida has an emergency agency that can provide body storage but it can only be activated by the state authorities in an emergency declared by the state. The state has not declared this Covid surge to be an emergency thus the state equipment is not made available.
Instead a local non-governmental group has obtained portable morgues and is making them available to the hospital networks in their service area.
FEMA also provides temporary morgues, but again only at the request of state officials, not local ones. Texas ordered FEMA morgues (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/texas-requests-five-mortuary-trailers-anticipation-covid-deaths-n1276924)
See the story in Newsweek
(https://www.newsweek.com/central-florida-hospitals-forced-order-mobile-morgues-deal-covid-death-overflow-1623871)
In an email sent to Florida's emergency managers, the hospital system announced it has "begun utilizing rented, refrigerated coolers at 10 of our campuses throughout Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, & Volusia counties. These coolers are quickly becoming filled also."
Advent Health said it believes its morgues are backed up because of a "slowdown at local funeral homes," which is causing the hospitals to have to hold bodies for longer periods.
"Because this is happening to hospitals throughout the area, we have been in contact with our regional hospital disaster coalitions and a request for assistance has also been forwarded to the Florida Hospital Association," the email read.
Earlier in the pandemic, hospitals had requested assets like the Florida Emergency Mortuary Operations Response System, but those resources are no longer available now that there is no disaster declaration in place.

Florida (to date) deaths: 43,979
Sumter Co. 284
Lake Co. 663
Marion Co. 996
The need for portable morgues is disturbing, but is primarily a function of how much morgue space they have to begin with. Was it any different after Katrina with 1800 deaths, or a 8.4 California quake?????

You really should not prevaricate about what is being said when the exact words of the hospital spokesman are right in your face.

If I put in in BOLD hopefully that will help you understand the words in this statement. You might also notice the words "request for assistance". Seems to me that they asked for help, got help, are using the help, and now are saying that the extra morgue units are nearing capacity. But you do your thing. Somehow facts become hype in your mind.
Now perhaps that email was made up and your are correct. So you will be returning to post links to evidence of the lack of truth to the statement in the story in Newsweek, also the same story in the Orlando paper but behind a paywall.

COVID tests- large percentage of false positives- people allegedly dying from COVID medical facility gets paid more money- making people fearful is great to get re-elected. Dr. Faucet is a phony fraud. China lab made COVID and then covered up. Why does the media not even mention these things- weather they are true or false we use to rely on the free press to investigate and inform the people.

Sadly, we’ll give up those enjoyable times until the pandemic is better controlled. We’re fully vaccinated, so we’re not staying away as much for our own safety as for those who continue to reject the science and the opportunity to be vaccinated.

I haven't had the flu in many years because I get a vaccination every year. I received the polio vaccine way back when it was introduced and did not have to suffer the debilitation that disease causes. I get the pneumonia vaccine when required along with the shingles vaccine. When I went into the Army back in 1966 I was given vaccines for cholera, yellow fever, typhoid, and plague which were diseases found in southeast Asia. Those shots weren't optional but I understood the reasoning behind it. I had a bit of trepidation with the Covid vaccination but decided that the possible side effects were far less worrisome than the effects of the disease. If a person decides not to receive the vaccination then that is their decision but they may suffer unpleasant consequences for that decision.
Look at is as cleaning the gene pool.

Yes, and 97% of all US medical Doctors are FULLY vaccinated. And 90% plus of the recent CV hospitalizations in Florida and elsewhere are the UNvaccinated. The Delta variant has increased the NEED for freezer morgue trucks. Perhaps, many people should re-assess their NEW and greater risk profile. Herd immunity IS better than portable morgues! What could happen to US society if there is a CV variant that is WORSE than the Delta variant coming in the future?

Fauci is a "national treasurer" all right. When Covid hit, a few drug companies were commissioned to quickly come up with a vaccine. You may have heard of companies named Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. Moderna was a no-nothing drug company who had never developed a vaccine. It's stock was $3 and is now about $320, and countries are tossing its vaccine because it contains graphene oxide or metal, or both. Go see if you can find any financial connection between Fauci and Moderna--you won't have to look hard.

Petitone referenced ivermectin. Ivermectin saved the 1 billion population from mass Covid deaths. After its introduction as the main treatment, death rates plunged 95%. Dr. Soumya Swaminatha is an Indian and WHO's chief scientist. He is now being sued by the Indian Bar Association for mass murder for blocking the use of ivermectin. The same thing, in time, hopefully will happen to Fauci.

Love to see the slightest shred of evidence from a legitimate source for that rather outlandish statement. But go ahead and take it, at least you won't have intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis. Probably works for ascariasis as well---COVID, not so much.

A friend in NC works for a funeral home. They can't pick bodies up from the hospital because they can't get coffins. They can't get coffins because manufacturers can't get the materials or the workers they need to build them. Everything requiring materials and/or manual labor is delayed these days.

That's a poor interpretation of the results.
The least change in vaccine hesitancy in the Education group found during the study was with PhDs. Even then, their overall vaccine hesitance was about 25%. On the other hand, Race, Trump Vote Share, and Age showed groups with hesitancies up to 35%.

I took your suggestion and googled the study. I then took the extra step to actually read the study and look at the tables and figures. I have copied the one that related to education and vaccine hesitancy for your edification, if that is possible.
For starters, look near the bottom where the authors analyzed the responses to this facebook survey by self reported educational status. Keep in mind that anyone could enter any status they liked to mess with the data.
The data is normed to 1.0 using the hesitancy of those who completed a full 4 yr college education as the standard. Those who completed up to but no more than high school had a relative risk of being vaccine hesitant of 1.89. In everyday terms that means those people were 89% more likely to decline vaccines than a 4 yr college grad.
Those who started but did not complete college were 67% more likely to decline shots. Those who got a masters degree were 27% less likely to decline shots.
Those with what the table calls "professional degrees" eg MD JD [but doesn't tell us what the exact wording used on the survey may have been] were 3% more likely to be hesitant. And those with "doctorates" which represented 1.9% of the self reported participants were 35% more likely than 4 yr college grads to be hesitant.
Thus your statement that the survey concluded that the most resistant group to the vaccines were not blacks, Latinos, Trump conservatives, hut the highly educated. is wrong, wrong, wrong. The most highly resistant by education is the group with 12 grade or less education.
The vaccine hesitancy ethnicity is highest in absolute numbers in white survey participants, with this number entirely related to the higher number of Trump supporters who were white. The data is all there. Some TOTV readers understand how to read and analyze data, some don't

For those of us in the medical profession, Dr Fauci is a knowledgeable, tested and respected national treasurer. He's been on the battle lines of stemming every transmitted disease since the 70's. He has saved more lives than all the sticks and stones thrown at him. God Bless him! Trust Fauci over Ingraham, Carlson or Ivermectin.
I agree. Thank you for a very excellent post!

Where? Did someone denigrate the dead? If so, did the dead complain or just someone looking for anything to argue about?

The other half of the problem is that funeral homes are backed up, so the hospitals can't get them out of their morgues.

Carnegie-Mellon U in Pittsburgh recently completed a 5 MILLION person survey in which they were trying to determine who were resistant to the Covid vaccines. Unlike the false narrative spread by the main stream media, the survey concluded that the most resistant group to the vaccines were not blacks, Latinos, Trump conservatives, hut the highly educated.
Kinda explains some of the comments on this site by the vaxxers.

If you want a Conservative’s opinion on the Covid vaccines I suggest you watch Ben Shapiro’s YouTube channel. He and his wife, a physician, are both vaccinated and urge everyone eligible to get vaccinated. The Moderna vaccine was developed under Operation Warp Speed which was a Trump program. I understand your frustration though with the bumbling, lying current leadership which has divided the nation instead of uniting it. If you want to show your displeasure do it next year at the polls.

Approx. 206 million citizens have been vaccinated in the U.S.
Approx. 40 million have been infected and may have anti-bodies so do not need to be vaxxed yet.
There are approx. 50 million children under 12 yo that cannot be vaccinated yet.
There are approx. 330 million citizens in the U.S.
That leaves about 34 million that possibly could have but have not yet been vaccinated for one reason or another.
According to the CDC approx. 75% of the U.S. has been vaccinated with at least one shot.
There will always be a few hold outs when it comes to vaccinations. There always has been in the past. Some have been advised by doctors NOT to get vaccinated, even though that number is probably very low. Name calling is not going to convince anyone.
Portable morgues being sent to central Florida is no reason to panic. When this started they set up portable hospitals all over and didn't even use them. Better to be prepared and not need it than to not be prepared and need it.

per MDLNB;Approx. 206 million citizens have been vaccinated in the U.S.
As of Sep 3 NYT tracker, 175.5 are fully vaccinated and 30 million have had one of the two shots needed if they got Pfizer or Moderna.
Approx. 40 million have been infected and may have anti-bodies so do not need to be vaxxed yet.
As of Sep 3 NYT tracker, about 40 million cases in the US. They do NOT separate out how many of these are immunized vs not immunized so your use of that number to subtract from the number of US citizens is bogus.
Additionally your tossed out statement that they do not need to be immunized is contrary to the recommendation of every agency. The CDC writes "Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 "
There are approx. 50 million children under 12 yo that cannot be vaccinated yet.
Close enough, actual estimate I found is 48 million as of 2019
There are approx. 330 million citizens in the U.S.
Again close enough, I found 333 million (https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/us-population/)
That leaves about 34 million that possibly could have but have not yet been vaccinated for one reason or another.
According to the CDC approx. 75% of the U.S. has been vaccinated with at least one shot.
And the CDC's data report (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations_vacc-total-admin-rate-total) that of those 12 or older, only 62% are fully vaccinated, thus 38% of Americans older than 11 are NOT fully vaccinated. 36% of those 18 and above who have been eligible to be vaccinated since January are NOT fully vaccinated. That is not a few holdouts
There will always be a few hold outs when it comes to vaccinations. There always has been in the past. Some have been advised by doctors NOT to get vaccinated, even though that number is probably very low. Name calling is not going to convince anyone.

I fully agree with the last sentence. As you seem to like numbers let's correct yours. With a population of 330 million minus 50 million children we have 280 million eligible to be vaccinated. 38% are not full vaccinated, or 106 million people, not 34 million. With 40 million cases in the US and a population of 330 million, the attack rate is about 10% [actually higher] And of those who get Covid the death rate is about 1 in 1000, again actually higher 46,000 / 40 million. So still having 36% of adults [about 100 million people] not protected we can predict an additional 100,000 deaths from vaccine refusals. That will fill a few extra morgues, needlessly

Not as much as you think. Most are residing in a Covid unit, conversation is few and far between. Many that were opposed, that recovers seem to have the same philosophy.
Same as many of hospital staff, they worked this entire time, no PPE, or using the same for weeks at a time. They survived, worked sometimes while testing positive, because of lack of staff. Most were never tested.
Maybe in the hospital that you are actuality working this week, patients have changed their choices. But they also must wait before getting vaccinated after Covid, so maybe they told you they would get vaccinated, and maybe they didn’t
Either way, It’s not my job to try to tell someone how to live their life, or think My views are right, and they are wrong. No matter the outcome.

I realize that it is important to you to establish your expertise and importance, but if you do your research, my information was accurate at the time that it was reported. And my opinion was just as valid as anyone else's on here. I realize that it might be difficult for some on here to have a discussion without minute corrections (and I say minute with your comparison of figures) to others' posts. Next time, perhaps folks will understand that we should first clear our posts with the "expert" before posting. Not to steal someone else's saying but some of us believe in a glass half full rather than a glass half empty. I look forward to your editing in the future.
Oh, if you have a problem with the figures, I suggest contacting CDC and tell them that they need to correct their website.

Reading compared to those who are actually working since day one of this pandemic is a very different story. Only emergency surgery allowed, and staff that was not directly working in Covid units were furloughed. So units running were active Covid, or step down.
Most of us were never tested in the first 6 months, some facilities if you tested positive sent you home. If you didn’t have pto then your income was zero. Symptomatic staff continued to work no matter what, many didn’t know if they were positive. Some never went home so as not to take a chance around their family.
So I don’t have to assume anything I have worked since day one. My last assignment was an area with 31% vaccinated, I knew that ahead of time, yet choose to work. Fear has never been an issue.
I am guessing you have been getting your information from media.
However if you are working in a facility, as many of us, and put you and your entire family in harms way, I apologize. But I don’t think that is the case. Those who live this everyday have very different perspective. Most of us don’t rely on media. If we did we may not get up and go to work tomorrow.

I was referring to what the CDC has told us to do. If we test positive, we must quarantine. As far as I know, that has not changed. I'm still trying to understand why health care workers do not have to quarantine if they test positive. Is it because they are working with Covid positive patients and do not leave the health care facility at all? I'm trying to understand.
