Why is it that "the Villages" close down Rec Centers, Pickle Ball and other activities during the height of late last year pandemic crisis.
But now that the situation is worst in Florida Rec Centers and Pickle Ball Courts still remain open.
Just wondering the motive and I come to this conclusion, IMHO
$ Its Greed $, "the Villages" management wants Snowbirds to return to the Villages.

I noticed you didn’t mention golf?
Maybe they (who ever they are ) learned that outdoor activity if precautions are take don’t spread the virus? Maybe it’s the high percentage of vaccinated villagers?
Bottom line it’s you’re responsible to protect yourself. If you think rec centers or any activity in villages puts you at risk, don’t go.

Hey! No sweat! If you get sick you can just go to the movie theater in Brownwood and get 4 free shots (1 in each arm, azz and thigh I hear) with your popcorn and it's all better so it doesn't matter. You can also head to Rural King in Leesburg and they may have some horse meds left in stock. :1rotfl:

Once people are vaccinated, they can get sick, but aren't likely to die especially older people like us. No one FORCES you to go anywhere or do anything. The Villages isn't your conscience or your mother nor is any government.

One can assume by your post's title and ill-informed comments that you do not understand much about The Villages community. The recreation amenities are not run or controlled by the developer but by an independent management and governmental body run principally by elected residents. There is a significant difference between the community/government "The Villages" and the developer "The Villages of Lake Sumter, Inc. or The Villages Holding Company" or any of the other dozens of companies they own.
The closures were done based on CDC, state, and county health official recommendations and directions. The goal has been to keep as much of the activities and lifestyle facilities as possible open during this period based on the guidance from these bodies, it has not been driven by money. If money was the issue then most of the last year would have been a complete shutdown as it has cost the district government significantly more to keep things open and cleaned and recleaned and recleaned again than it would have to just lock the doors.

As a side note, I have not seen one question as to where to get the vaccination in many months, and nobody left here that really wants it or needs it anymore. I suspect in late September when the third booster shot is going to be available everyone will be getting it also that wants it. Those that are not vaccinated will have a much higher chance of course of catching it from other people not vaccinated along with a few breakthrough cases but Life Will go on for most of us. Unfortunately in the last few weeks I have heard about several friends children in their late twenties early thirties dying and I don't know whether they were vaccinated or not cuz I don't have the heart to ask or inquire but I do know they came back crying from trips.

Yes. You can "get it again" in the form of the NEW VARIANT.
Not everyone will catch it again.
Most people will not die if they catch it again.
No one wants to get even a cold if they can avoid it.
I do not like to be called "SHEEP" or "Sheeple".
I do not like to be mocked and labeled "afraid".
No one likes to be criticized. Most people are acting according to the information they have been given. Sadly, some of it is incorrect.
I am sad to see anyone die of this ******* virus, but I am relieved that not as many are dying as at the beginning. Most older people, MOST of us have been double vaccinated.
My hope is that, since people have decided to do what they are doing, that all of the people who will get sick will be treated and hopefully not die and that perhaps the worse will be over soon.
My worry is that the ******* virus will change again in hosts that are unvaccinated, or in an animal. I hope MU doesn't stop humans from happening.
I remember just two years ago hugging anyone I wanted to hug.

What you "suspect" is wrong, the district government that made/makes the decisions on the closure has nothing to do with home sales, resales, or anything else associated with the developer's business ventures. As I said above, the direction and guidance for the previous and future closure comes from the CDC and State and County medical officials.
I little education about and involvement with how The Villages community works and is structured by many of the posters here would go a long way in quelling the misinformation and false narratives posted here. "Cases don't mean death, they mean, maybe a cold." Currently, 1,500+ people every day are finding that statement to be wrong.
"You can also die crossing the street or riding in a car." Approximately 100 per day, 15 times fewer than are currently dying from Covid. However, to your point, 3,000 auto deaths per month is approximately 10 times *more* than Covid deaths in vaccinated individuals.

As much as I value most of the information you share in your posts, I have to respectfully disagree with the above quoted post. First, the CDC and State and County Medical officials offer guidance to be considered as recommendations.
The district government is free to follow that guidance or not, based on what they feel would be in the best interest of their constituency. Secondly, it is a leap of faith to assume the district government operates fully independently and at arms length from outside influences. John Rohan runs the recreation department and is very influential in determining its policies. Given that John has a regional recreation center named after him and has been hand picked to run the recreation division, it is quite a leap of faith to assume that his decisions are completely independent of certain business ventures. This observation has nothing to do with envy or discontent, just viewing things with open eyes and drawing reasonable conclusions. Others my look at the same thing and draw different conclusions. Whatever conclusions one draws, it should not subject them to being negatively characterized.

Why, if vaccinated you have nothing to worry about. 🙄 However, I know of those fully vaccinated still got Covid, my nephew 47 and his wife a nurse just got over a bad case of Covid after being fully vaccinated and he ended up in the hospital getting his heart shocked back into normal rhythm and had to return 24 hours later with the same problem now he will see a cardiologist on Thursday and he had no health issues prior to taking the vaccinations. Vaccinated or not vaccinated you can still get Covid so non vaccinated paid for these facilities the same as those who got the jab and has just as much right to be inside if they so choose 🙄🙄🙄

As bad as the Delta variant might seem, in 2020 there was no vaccine available yet and everyone was at risk so precautions had to be taken, often times with extreme measure like closing businesses and amenities. Much was also unknown about the virus in terms of transmission so everybody was extra-cautious, even sanitizing items from the grocery stores (that were often being delivered). I lived in CA at the time and it was total lockdown except for essential services. During the holidays we were under a curfew as well.
Those were indeed dark times, so even though things can look bleak at the moment in terms of case numbers, because of vaccination rates, most people are either not contracting the virus or if they do, their symptoms are mild or moderate and do not require hospitalization. In other words, businesses don't have to be closed, they are advised to follow county and state guidelines.

I tend to NOT watch games that I NO longer play. I played football in high school so I would watch games back then to try and learn how players superior to me did things. If someone were to give me either college or pro football tickets, I would gladly sell them to someone else at 1/2 price. I don't watch wrestling, boxing, Olympic weight lifting, curling, downhill skiing, dog racing, horse racing, motocross, Nascar, golf, dog shows, cowboy roping, cat juggling, and many other sports.

Sorry can't agree with you, you say non vax people paid into the cost of facilities equally as vaxed....not sure if that's correct, don't think they are all running on tax dollars, but, even if so, it's the non vax that are putting the demand and strain on these facilities. The cost to heal these people, or keep them alive is astronomical....so is it equal???? Is it fair???? Don't think so.
They are offered a free vax, proven to prevent.....they don't choose it.....pay the bill for the hospital!!!

I dont understand your post...you say nephew was vaxed, then got covid....was he just vaxed, or was this mths ago. He got covid, then discovered a heart issue....why do you say it was the shot? Maybe the covid caused it.....hence not steering people away from the shot, adding fear.
If the dr is saying that the vax gave him heart issues...well yes that should be stated, but being vague or ambiguous isn't helping. You should state which caused his issues, bc not identifying puts wrong thoughts out there. Js

Of course, for some, it must be that old green-eyed monster "Envy" raising its ugly head that speaks before finding out the facts of the situation. They'll believe only what they want to believe and be consumed by their own discontent.
The family has some dirty laundry you conveniently overlook. Then without knowing the facts of the situation you say those who disagree with your fan boy opinions are envious or discontented.

if you were more familiar with Goldwingnut's material, you'd understand that he is far from a sycophant for the Morse family. He often posts opinions at odds with "The Family's" spin.

But, that increased HUMAN experience is OFFSET by the fact that the Virus did NOT standstill. It mutated to the Delta variant, which is exponentially more dangerous than the earlier Alpha.
you speak in hyperbole. "Exponentially", in the math definition, is to say that something has increased 10 times. In common language it can mean "to increase a lot", but it sounds so much more drastic and impressive when you say "exponentially".
According to an article in the New York Times, referencing a Lancet study, "people who are infected with the Delta variant are at twice (2x) the risk of requiring hospitalization as those infected with the Alpha variant", and fewer than 2% of those infected with the Delta variant were fully vaccinated." This from a study of 40,000 patients infected with the Delta variant.

Significant? Yes. Exponential? Not in my book.

W r o n g!
The Fox New Network recommends that its watchers take the Covid Vaccine, while also stressing Freedom of Choice.
You bring up Science and Doctors:
Science - COVID-19/Delta virus is NEW, no science.
Doctors - Keep flip-flopping, when are they right?

I am sure you are correct in your math. I used the word exponentially in a more common "layman's" language as a way to illustrate that the Delta variant IS more dangerous than the Alpha. People NEED to adjust their RISK tolerance accordingly. I am guilty of using what is called "writers leniency" to use some degree of exaggeration to illustrate a point. I don't claim to be a professional writer. If I were writing for the NY Times then, I would feel compelled to be mathematically correct in my risk assessment. I am willing to be corrected. Being corrected is "GOOD" in that, it means that my exaggeration was, at minimum, somewhat provocative and thought provoking. So, sincerely, Thank you!

Well, we have vaccines now . . . and current spike is largely in the unvaccinated. We have a choice now to protect ourselves.
