We have decided to do our own mowing and were wondering if anyone has a donut hole cutter (removes the sod around sprinklers) that they would be willing to sell.

FWIW, I have always used an old steak knife, tracing around the donut.

Those donut hole cutters are realy handy for keeping the sprinkler heads free of grass and weeds. I use mine on all of my heads about three times a year. Im pretty sure sweets ace hardware still stocks them. I think they cost a little over 20$. I wouldnt be without one .

I question the need for them. There have been two rationales put forward: one to protect the heads from the heavy mowers used by commercial services, and two, to keep the heads free to pop up through the grass.
The mowers used here are the same as used up north, yet no one up north ever has the donuts to protect the heads. Secondly, if you are doing the grass cutting yourself, you will be using a small power mower, not the huge ones.
As far as keeping the heads free to pop up, my lawn is 2 years old and does not have donuts, yet all the heads continue to function just fine.
I know it seems to be the norm down here to have them, but so far they seem to be an unsightly, somewhat expensive, waste of time. Perhaps my tune will change in the future.

After 4 years of battling zosia grass I finally bought a donut hole cutter. Wish I had bought it 4 years earlier.

What type of grass are the builders putting in with new homes? I have seen people discussing Zoysia, St. Augustine and Bermuda. Which is put in by the builders?

All of the new construction is zoysia.

That's good, isn't it, or is something else better? Not that it would make any difference though.

You can tear out your lawn and put any grass you want.....but why.
