Yeah, I know you won't see it in the Daily Sunshine Pumper, but last week, 7 pool vending machines broken in to. Last night, a bunch of postal stations get broken in to on the southern end. This info is straight from Sumter county deputy. If you don't want to believe it, then don't. I don't care.
Word to the wise, get your mail every day. It might not be there if you don't.

If someone wants to empty the junk mail out of my mailbox, have at it. They'd save me a trip!

Vending machines at pools? Raises interesting questions. Who has the contract for this? How was it arranged. How profitable? Who's making money?

No fear that anything will happen to them. No Dads to give them guidance.

Someone had their '57 Chevy golf cart stolen from Sumter Landing in front of Red Sauce....

Crime statistics like any statistics are always spun by the reporter. As far as crime is is a question of are they all reported. Another question is does a big night mean a rise in crime. For all of us, if your window is broken we think broken windows have really gotten out of hand.

As far as mail theft, it is a Federal offense, with serious penalties. It is rarely enforced because delivery is hard to prove. When, I was in business often people would claim the check was lost in the mail. My response was it is amazing that the post office never loses BILLS just CHECKS owed to me.

Kinda sad to read the responses. Sure vending machine break ins aren't the crimes of the century, and sure we would love to have our junk mail disappeared, but still these are issues that should be discussed not made fun of. Oh well that's the world we live in now....

You're right, they are serious matters, especially the mail theft. As for the cavalier attitude by some, I feel it's often a cover-up. They make jokes about things like crime to lessen their own feelings of fear and insecurity. They actually feel vulnerable and confused because they are supposed to be living in a nice, safe, low-crime, area so it shocks them when they hear of these issues. If they make jokes about it and try and blow it off then they don't have to worry about it, or better yet, do anything about it.

Why would anyone worry about someone breaking into a vending machine and as far as mail being stolen, we get nothing of value in the mail so I will in fact, as you stated, just blow it off and finally there is nothing you can do about it happening, if the powers to be were concerned they would have cameras. So, in closing, I don't feel vulnerable with these kiddy crimes going on and I do feel that we live in a low crime area.

Some posters know the crime stats in TV and are not reactive to Sky is Falling posts and are not concerned about $10 from a soda machine.

The feds would like you to think that but it is not a big deal anymore. I personally caught a mail thief who took not only a check for $7500.00 but also my wife's prescriptions as well as a garbage bag full of mail from surrounding neighbors. I had it all on a game camera. He was in jail for 1 night and released. He went to court a week later and was required to write notes of apology to all that he stole from. And that was it!

Ummm, maybe because everyone is not you and they do get important mail they don't want stolen? I feel that these overly-casual, nothing-to-see-here reactions are really facades for anxiety and uncertainty about possible changes taking place in The Villages. Today it's theft of petty cash from vending machines and junk mail, tomorrow...who knows? :ohdear:

Possible changes taking place in TV??? Do you really believe that these little misdemeanor kiddy crimes haven't been going on here for decades? You might be too new to know where to read about the real crimes in the area, there are plenty of them that will give you anxiety and they make these seem like child's play. Take a on-line survey asking how many people in TV have had their mail stolen and you will probably be able to count the positive replies on your fingers.
