Payrolled workers surge above pre-pandemic levels after record leap – ONS (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/payrolled-workers-surge-above-pre-062939160.html)
The world is getting back to normal, slowly, but that doesn't mean there aren't economic dislocations of items such as shipping containers, truck drivers, etc. There are alot of 60 something people retiring in the boomer population, creating a labor shortage as well. the sign of the retirement wave is/was the demand for TV house prices . . and the huge premiums bid by the recently retired. . . who suddenly retired. . .
However, the shipping issues are a bit more geo-political. . . so for anyone getting christmas gifts for grandchildren, get them now, as the global supply chains were so optimized that they became fragile, and are now basically broken, so recovery will be alot longer than we have ever experienced. .
So, get those grand kids' christmas presents now!
not a political message, but a practical message to be the good grand parents. . .

Maybe this would be a good year to stop buying those grandkids the usual junk that ends up at the back of the closet by Feb or March. You have a built-in excuse this year.
Easy for me to say - my grandson is 20 and all he wants is cash :)

I know there are problems in the supply lines, but I find shopping for Christmas in October soulless, even worse then that are the ones who brag about having it all done in July. I’ll take a crowded mall or downtown Boston during the last week before Christmas it’s fun and strangers actually talk to you

Pffft all these folks crying foul and demanding more goods Made in America - this is your chance. Put your money where your mouth is. Buy American, buy LOCAL, or make it yourself.

The grandkids figured it out years ago they prefer $$$ it goes farther on Christmas sales. If there’s such a shortage of Christmas items why were there artificial trees on sale in late August. It’s a manufactured shortage to get you to spend more $$$.

Savings bonds were good at one time, but now cash is more appreciated than useless junk that they really don't want anyway.

Most people have way too much stuff anyway.
Our grands are overwhelmed with toys.
We set up college funds and put $ for their birthday and
again at Christmas. Then we get them 1-2 small gifts.
Makes our Son very happy to see the college fund growing.
The grands are 4 1/2 & 16 months.

PlayStation 5’s are going to be even hotter presents this year. I’ve been stocking up on them all year and am going to start dumping them at the beginning of December.

Don't forget all the underprivalged kids who don't have a closet of junk.
Why dont you tell your grandson you have donated his cash present to someone who really needs it.
