I feel I need to vent here and wonder a "What the hell is going on out there in my old age?"

Why do we need to watch all those trucks and cars tear up our National Landscape in those TV commercials????

I'm sure there are animals/insects/birds that are near extinction out there and they take
$40,000 to $90,000 vehicles kicking up the dust and tearing through our rivers and water sheds.

Let me ask this: "When you look for a new replacement vehicle do those commercials
impress you to buy one"?

I'm be taking my meds now.

Those commercials are not aimed at anyone living here, maybe our grandkids.

I was wondering why they bother to incur the expense of running the commercials when the sales lots are empty and people are paying over sticker price to order trucks that won’t be available for months. A good friend just put a deposit down on a ToyotaTacoma and was told delivery won’t be until early summer of 2022 in the soonest.

I agree with you. I used to do some exploring in and around Death Valley with a 4WD - you absolutely do not go fast, more like 1 or 2 MPH in the tricky parts, 10 to 15 elsewhere, if that. And you stay on established road/trails. Doing otherwise is irresponsible and reinforces the bad rap 4WDing has gotten.

Also when I watch these 20 somethings laughing and smiling tearing up the land scape,
I'm wondering how many of these vehicles are financed by their parents.

just yesterday I was asking myself during a commercial, "how'd they get that 4WD up on that rock?"....was it a Chinook, or is there really such a thing as a 'sky hook'

I also thought...why are they recklessly tearing up the landscape, and driving like a maniac....that's just going to result some young kids doing the same thing on land that most likely doesn't belong to them

values...they were drilled into me when I was growing up...seems like quite a few of them haven't been passed on

So someone can't or won't change the channel or mute the FlatScreen. Why is that? Why not just turn it off?

Actually complaining about something over which you have 100% control. Feel like I've stepped into the twilight zone of the mentally incompetent. How did some of you survive without being told what to do, when to do it and when to stop doing it?

Or do some old people not feel alive unless they are bashing something? Weird. As to the wildlife...seriously? The earth itself produces thousands of times more dust and noxious gases than anything we mere humans can add.

or just take your meds. ;-/

Most of the commercials are targeted at senior citizens. Other than car/truck commercials, it's all prescription drug commercials.

Can only wish for the good old days and cigarette commercials.

I read somewhere that beer commercials, even though they try to look ‘guy’ oriented are really aimed at women since they do most of the shopping. True? Who knows.

Many time my wife and I will watch a tv commercial and one of us ask "what the hell was that about"?

Also, those Super Bowl commercials, remember when they were worth watching, funny and entertaining.
And that half time entertainment..........my god I'm I getting old.

Most of the car commercials aren't real, they are computer generated. They use real vehicles for those static shots with families but all that tearing up the landscape.....not so much.

After watching Saturday Night Live last weekend with my wife, we both said to each other, did that show go totally downhill or are we just getting old. We concluded the show, as well as the guest musician, totally sucked. Comedy and political correctness simply don’t mix.

I was part of a crew who work on a ton of commercials and it's just a busines like everything else. I work on one job that was an in house commercial that threw me for a surprise. I was using a product that I brought with me that to accomplish what was needed as the 12 hour day wore on I was running out. When I mentioned it to the PA they asked me what I was going to do. I told them I was going to use the product they were selling, That is when I was told that there was no product, that they were shooting this for this large well know company and if they like what they saw they would create a product for the jar. This was a first for me. It show what they really think of the public.

I worked on a commercial for one of the many kitchen cleaners. They were using a curry mix on a range hood to simulate grease, after a number of takes the curry started to stain the hood and there was no way this product was going to remove that. We broke for lunch and when we returned the hood was as white as snow and you could also smell the paint spay in the air. This is illegal, but that how it goes.

A little off the subject, but what really bothers me is when the sound track of the commercial includes a loud car horn or siren, especially on just one channel of the speakers. Very distracting and possibly dangerous.

Air time for commercials is purchased way in advance…probably last year. Who would have known there would be such a vehicle crunch. What a waste of money but again who would have known.

Blackbird45

Back to the original topic of these large off the road cars and trucks ripping up the country side in commercials. They do this because they know that is what is going to sell their product. At the end of the day a large portion of these vehicles are bought by people who believe roughing it is staying at a 2 star hotel. We all at lease once have seen a person with a handicap sticker in the window spending 15 minutes trying to park one of these things at the super market just to purchase a container of milk.

You're right - nothing's perfect, although many have a purpose other than just being a 4WD trail (fire road, etc.). But no right-thinking 4WDer would do all the wheel spinning, skidding nonsense. Most of those truck would break down if you did that for more than 10 or 15 minutes. They really are not that tough unless you add 3 or 4K of after market stuff to them

Some of the outdoor scenes in those commercials are computer generated. In some cases, it's cheaper than transporting the vehicles, support crews, and an entire film crew to some exotic location just to kick up some dust and mud to excite the juveniles.
BTW, I exhale carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide.

I assume you are objecting to SUVs. What they are selling is an image, a lie. Leather seating, air conditioning, soft road suspension does not make a car that does well off road. If, you have a dirty jeep, land-rover, international etc your neighbors would be screaming.

In many things we buy an image often not TRUTH. Budweiser an American brewer has recently combined with InBev a Belgian-Brazilian brewer making it the largest brewer in the world. Clydesdales are huge Scottish draft horses Horse power? I probably should look it up. I seem to recall a Clydesdale is twice as powerful as whatever a standard horse is. I expect you cannot bring a horse into the villages none are toilet trained.

It is NOT illegal. Advertising is an image not reality. There is a company in NYC that supplies the best fake ice cubes for photography. After you set up the shot, you do not want real ice to melt. Software permits you to adjust contrast. A camera with tilts and swings permits you to adjust perspective. Choice of lens and lighting can either take weight off the model or put it on. Stars? Some of the one that fans swoon over are in reality spoiled trash.
