We will soon be moving to Hammock at Fenney. As a matter of fact our house is supposed to be starting construction today. We are anxiously waiting to move in early Feb. 2022.

Our question is regarding cable and internet service. Which companies offer service in the area? We have talked to Spectrum and they do not know anything about the new area. Since I assume people have started moving in recently there must be service???????????

Since I assume people have started moving in recently there must be service???????????We moved into St. Catherine earlier this year. Both Xfinity and Spectrum have cables running to the box. Not sure if they're doing that in every new Village but if you can take a peak in the low voltage box in an existing under construction house you might be able to tell.

When we first moved here Spectrum didn't know we existed either. They need some time for their system to catch up.

We bought in Fenney early in 2017 and Spectrum couldn't tell us if it was available or not, they had to send someone out and it was into the boxes but not into the homes, it took them about an hour to run it in. We stayed with them until their prices went sky high and then switched to Comcast/Xfinity which was also available in Fenney. My guess is you will have both available by the time you get here, I'm sure the lines are already buried over there.

You might want to try Tmobile. We just dropped our Spectrum service in Ohio and picked up Tmobile as our Internet provider. Now we are just streaming with Hulu and Netflix we are currently saving about $100 a month.

We moved into Fenney in Dec 2018 and have CenturyLink, 1Gb Fiber, with price for life "contract". So glad I don't have to haggle with these cable/internet companies annually now.

My northern experience has been - Spectrum & Xfinity customer service was horrible to put it nicely and I had to deal with extra charges with Xfinity data limits when we started streaming and went over on monthly data in CO but understand FL also has the limit.

Do your due diligence, your mileage may vary............

I have have CenturyLink, 1Gb Fiber too. It's now called Quantum Fiber and you have to go to the Quantum Fiber web site to order it. CenturyLink spun off this business which is good. For $65/month you get 1GB bidirectional internet and can stream all your content. Much better than cable. Very reliable and no fees and taxes. Every home in the Villages i believe from 2015 on has fiber already installed at the house but not many people know what it is. Incredible!

Build is starting today ? You’ll be moving in about 3-4 months from now unless things have changed. We moved into our new home in Citrus Grove about a month ago ….

Word of advice ……. Assuming you made changes or additions to the regular plans, you need to closely monitor the building process to make sure that things are being done properly and according to the blueprints…..

We visited our build DAILY and we found several mistakes right away which would have been very hard to fix later on ….. just one brief example….. we paid extra to have All WOOD STUDS in our home……. You guessed it , they installed metal studs as they normally would in a “regular” build !

Yep , they had to come back in and remove all of the wood studs and replace them with wood studs !

Bottom line is that “the boys” are not carefully looking at the plans/specs as they go along !

I would assume your sales agent would know what service providers are being wired into the new area but most likely, Spectrum and definitely Xfinity.

You’ll love TV. But one caution, properly taxes are higher & Bond is higher. Also if you do anything entertaining you have to drive a bit.But don’t let that discourage you, you’ll love it! There just a lot more to do north of 44. CONGRATULATIONS on your new home. TV is a Disneyland for retirees!

xFininity is nibbling away at the pricing to pull more out of us ( $163 monthly for just two TVs, phone, internet).
My contract is up soon. I will move over to internet streaming.
Verizon can give you a wifi hot spot to cover all your needs.
Most television is garbage nowadays.
Every news outlet has a live stream, so time to ditch the xFinity.

My smart TV can be direct connected to wifi to stream.

May be a good time to re-think your options.

Quality is horrible.
Wait til you start trying to figure out the screwey electric. Along with the site plan there is an electric version too. make sure you get that document. In my older home in SS they did some weird things with the electric.
It took me a while to figure out they wired up the lower half of an outlet fed by three wall switches (front door, back door and another switch by the smaller bedrooms). I am an electrical engineer, I was thinking that the I had a bad receptacle. I measure voltage and it came up with around 48 volts. Why?

Which brings up another point. Illuminated switches only need to be used on light switches. Not the fans..... Hellooo, I can see or hear a fan running. The illuminated switch is there to assist in finding the light switch in the dark. Forgive me if I am nuts. I go into the bathroom and turn on the light and then look at the fan switch and turn it on. As for the illuminated switches.... If you have a flickering one, use one of the other illuminated switches to replace the flickering light switch. Replace fan switch with non illuminated much less expensive.

One other point. All the garage outlets (perhaps even one ceiling outlet in the garage), exterior outlets, the lamp pole out front - they are all powered off one GFCI breaker or even worse- a GFCI receptacle in the garage. This string has the receptacle for the charger for the golf cart. When my house gets power washed the GFCI receptacle always trips when the charger kicks on after power wash.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a GFCI tester and check every outlet before acceptance. Most people have no clue.

Words to ease your move. You will find your own electric oddities.

Not all homes are wired the same. I have 3 separate GFI'd circuits in my garage. My light post is also on its own breaker. They ran so many dedicated circuits in my house that they needed two breaker boxes to fit everything. lol

It's century Link that is using the old phone lines that's been around since dirt that's old fashion.

Maybe, depends on where you live. CenturyLink has fiber optic cable to the house for a good chunk of The Villages. Some of the older areas are still DSL over copper. Some areas may not be serviced by CenturyLink at all, just like Spectrum which doesn't service all of The Villages.

My experience with their customer service is a much different story. I spent over 3 hours on the phone trying to schedule my move from MN to FL and they still messed everything up. They are scheduled to install a week from Saturday, so we'll see I guess... If I remember I'll follow up with how the install goes.

It all boils down to how you talk with, the way people are leaving jobs for other jobs today makes you wonder how anything gets done right. When we switched over to Comcast/Xfinity, everything went perfectly, the tech was great, gave us a lot of tips on how to use things that Spectrum didn't include, never had a problem with it so after our 2 years we re-signed for another 2 years just recently.

Spectrum does support Hammock at Fenney. I had to call a few times to find a customer service rep that would call their engineering/construction department. They confirmed for me within one day that they provide service to my area. And today they connected me, the service person who came was great. I just use signed up for their internet. I use youtube TV for my TV service.

We went thru the design process 9-1-21 and construction was to have been started 10-1 but was delayed until 10-20. TV assures us that we will close on time. We are on Adamsville Ave. We have been looking for years and think we found our perfect lot.
