Jay Black, was lead singer of Jay and the Americans for all of their hits, except "She Cried" (Jay Traynor). He was known as "The Voice" and when you heard him sing "Cara Mia", you know why. They were a clean-up group in the middle of the British invasion and people today wonder how they succeeded. It is simple. Good, uplifting songs, sung by a great lead singer were popular then and are still enjoyed almost 60 years later!
Jay Black, aka David Blatt, you will be missed.

Jay (Black) and the Americans appeared at my high school senior prom on Long Island back in 1968.. He was a gorgeous man with an amazing voice. Hubby and I saw him perform a couple of times, many years later, and he was so proud to still be able to hit those high notes on "Cara Mia" and hold that note too.

May he RIP.
