I love dogs as much as anyone. I have owned a doggie day care in Golden, CO and have volunteered for many years at rescues.

It’s plain and simple.

If your dog humps or is aggressive don’t bring it to the dog park. We are all sympathetic to the problem that you have with your pup.

If everyone else’s dog is following good behavior not only do we not like that behavior against our dogs but we don’t want our good dogs to learn it. We especially don’t want our dog injured.
Please get professional training of leave that dog at home.
Thank you.

We gave up on bringing our little girl to the dog parks. No such thing as a bad dog, but the place has more than it’s share of bad/lazy owners.

Had a park near me in UK many years ago that would not let entire male dogs in.

Agreed 100% but some dogs may not be trainable depending on their past and In that case the owner has no choice but to not bring that dog to the park. It’s sad if you own one of those because I understand the dilemma.

We were told by the last 3 vets that we used to stay away from dog parks, it is the best place to pickup parasites, other diseases, and dog attacks. We stay away from them.

On September 13, 2021, my pooch got bit in the left paw on the underside after being approached by a pit bull or pit bull mix at Doggie Doo Run in the central field while we were just walking to the 5 acre back field. This was in the evening when there are very few dogs.

The pit bull mix came up to my dog and they started going apart but the pit bull then spun around and all I heard was my dog screeching. It was very fast so I did not know what occurred. I picked him up and the pit bull owner ran over and got his dog away.

I had no idea what actually happened but went into the big field area and shut the gate. My canine friend had stopped making the noise and I put him down to try to figure out what happened. The dog that bit him was going to the gate to the back field rather often and it looked like he was trying to figure out how to get in there.

I did not see any blood at the time. But one of the employees of DDRR, Joe, had asked me what had happened as he had been in the small dog section with his charge. I thought my dog had just sprained his leg or something or twisted a toe but I did see a very small amount of blood in between his toes.

But I still thought maybe it was just a twisted leg.

Took him home and thought he was OK but by next morning he could not walk on the leg.

Called Buffalo Ridge Animal for an appt and they only had one vet working and she was fully booked for emergencies and also regular customers.

I contacted a few other vets and saw that the emergency vet near NYPD pizza opens at 3. This is by Walmart in Oxford, FL.

A vet's assistant called me from Paws Animal Hospital and offered a morning Wednesday appt which I accepted.

The vet there at Paws Animal Hospital took x-rays after examining our little guy and pointing out the hole in his paw on the bottom.

X-rays turned out OK. The vet said I was very lucky if a pit bull had actually bit him as they can do a great deal of damage very quickly.

They gave me some antibiotic and pain medicine at Paws Animal Hospital.

I contacted the owner of Doggie Doo Run Run, Scott, about our chihuahua/terrier mix getting bitten and suggested he ban the pit bull or pit bull mix. That Monday evening was as far as I know its last visit to Doggie Doo Run Run. It was also its very first with what I kind of think was a new dog owner as well.

I stayed away from the dog parks for almost a month to see how our little fur baby got along with dogs at the mail center and around the block. He seemed to be his old self. A Great Dane in a chihuahua/terrier body.

My dog did return to Doggie Doo Run Run in mid October.

There are some very sweet pit bull mixes that come to Doggie Doo Run Run but there are occasionally quite aggressive ones as well.

And some of the little dogs can also be rather nasty.

The last time I went to the archery range at a certain time of day, someone was bringing their beagle to the dog park right next to it. That beagle SCREAMED constantly. Would run to one end of their side, scream, then run to the other side and scream. It sounded like they were in horrible agony, but that's just one of the types of howls that beagles make. Sounded a bit like this:
A Perfect Beagle Howl - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esjec0JWEXU)

If it's just a few seconds, or a minute, no biggie. But imagine trying to aim an arrow that can kill a deer, at a target, while listening to that non-stop only 50 yards away from you for 1/2 hour or more.

Eventually I just stopped going that time of day but - really - some folks need to acknowledge that their dog's awesome noises are not necessarily something anyone else wants to hear consistently when they're out.

There was a very sweet and very passive pit bull or pit bull mix at Doggie Doo Run Run a year or more ways back. My chihuahua/terrier would chase her around the big field while barking at it.

Unfortunately some of the more aggressive big dogs took chunks out of this very mild pit bull or pit bull mix.

Think the dog took months to heal and then came back to Doggie Doo Run Run and it happened again soon after the canine returned.

If I see a pit bull entering park I immediately pick up my dog and leave. This breed does more damage to others, people and dogs vi would never own one. I would rather air on the SAFE SIDE

Not necessary to identify as a pit bull. Pit Bulls are awesome dogs. The owner needs training.

Maybe there needs to be some notices about unacceptable dog/owner behaviour on the dog park gates. Some selfish people unfortunately can't think of others without being told to!!

I agree with many, its NOT the dogs, since they do not take themselves to the park, its the Owners responsibility or lack of, not to bring them to mix with other dogs off leash if they have negative behavioral issues. These parks are "use at your own risk" which is why I stay far away. My biggest issue here in TV is the off leash mentality that seems to be present in my area and the lack of consideration by Owners that leave their barking dogs out all day and night, unattended. Perhaps TV needs a "Doggie Orientation" to explain things.....

Hmmm, a “doggie orientation”. And how has that worked with the “good golf school”?

No problems at Dudley dog park.

No parasites

No dog fights

No bad dogs

No lazy owners

Nothing to complain about

We did have a few lazy owners but they were encouraged not to return.

100% false! Tell that to my dog who had a piece of her ear bitten off at Dudley.

Unfortunately, there are bad dog owners everywhere.

That’s terrible advice. In a dog fight you should make as much noise as possible to break it up and both owners should grab their dogs by their hind legs and lift them off the ground almost like grabbing the handles of a wheelbarrow.

I agree with you. I stopped taking my dog to Dudley due to owners who are clueless about their dogs.

I have an issue with the dog owners who go to the park and park themselves in a chair and socialize with their fur babies in their laps. I think if your taking your dog to the park, it’s for exercise and then have the nerve to tell other people with their pets that they are not wanted there. New puppies want to run and play. It’s their nature. They are not being aggressive just friendly. JMO.

100% true as that dog and owner are no longer at the dog park.

Lots of things have happened in the past, I stated the current situation. Since you have not returned you do not have a picture of the current conditions. We also had an owner who didn't control his older puppy, I could rant about him however he no longer comes to the park so he isn't relevant to current conditions. That is not to say that I don't understand your anger as I do.

If you returned you would see for yourself that I speak the truth.

Except when someone's life is threatened and what to do you do to inspect the grounds for parasites, spoon through all the poop that is lying around the park? Also, just a couple weeks ago a lady's doodle was attacked by a dog in Dudley. There's lots to complain about in all dog parks.

Iowned a dog business and never had a problem with Pits. The biggest problem was Jack Russel Terriers and Chihuahuas.

If anyone's "life was threatened" there would be law enforcement involvement. Lying to make a post, seriously I expect more maturity. I am disappointed.

Apparently, there WAS a case of felony assault at the Dog Park off Moyer Loop some years back...

The perpetrator has since moved away...

So one guy says a dog park is frequented by responsible owners, the bad owners no longer attending. Followed by several pointing out that in the distant past (years ago) there was an incident in a completely different location with even more spreaders of negativity with vauge statements that it happens all over.

It is the same theme on dozens of threads that I've tracked here. The 'regular posters' simply can't move forward without getting everyone to see things through their negative filter. No wonder why people leave this forum so frequently never to be heard from again.

Some dogs are untrainable especially rescued dogs. Not everybody has the prefect dog. If go to dog park where strange dogs are you’re risking loosing you’re pet? Yes, it maybe low percentage, but the risk it there.

I have been going to Villages' area dog parks since November or so of 2006. A lot can happen in those almost 15 years.

Doggie Doo Run Run opened around 2003 and some of the people who were around then-- the dog owners-- still go there. They have different pooches, though. And some have lost mates, etc.

Dog fights and bad encounters between people happen during long periods of time. My first pooch was bit in the Summer of 2007 and the 2nd dog September 13, 2021. They banned both of the dogs that bit my dogs. The first was a Weimaraner along with three other dogs that mistook our first dog for a rabbit. The Weimaraner, Jesse James, was banned as far as I know.

Other Weimaraners have come to the various Villages' area dog parks but I have not had any problems with these. Just with Jesse James.

Many pit bull mixes visit Villages' area dog parks but I try to keep an eye on them if they are new. I let my guard down on 13th of September trusting in other dog park users to keep dogs they are unsure of as to how they will behave out of public settings.

Has anyone tried using an air horn to deter dogs engaged or about to engage in a fight or acting aggressive? I know they startle the hell out of me. Or maybe a water blaster.

Has anyone tried using an air horn to deter dogs engaged or about to engage in a fight or acting aggressive? I know they startle the hell out of me. Or maybe a water blaster.

Some of the dog owners would use various things to stop their dogs from getting in skirmishes and the like. Shock collars. Best Shock Collars for 2021 - Reviews of Shock Collars (https://best.retailmenot.com/best-shock-collars?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyoyYxfKH9AIV8QWICR09jAAD EAAYASAAEgJTb_D_BwE) Collars that dispense a bad smelling spray. Squirt guns for canines that did not like water. Clickers. Dog trainers.

And the owners of Doggie Doo Run Run would confine some problem dogs to the agility area.

One dog hated kids because some of them had shot him with BBs which were still in him. They would corral the dog whenever a kid came into the big dog area. And then when one of the owners passed the dog was just found in the agility area.
