At my house it’s vodka and bourbon (not together that would be disgusting). Absolut or Three Olives for the lady and anything from Evan Williams to Knob creek for me. Also keep a bottle of Tennessee whiskey in the bar. I am surprised with the news reports of coming spirits shortages that the prices have remained consistent. What’s in your glass?

Water, coffee or tea. Anything with alcohol in it is poison to me, I'm highly allergic.

Tea, water, orange juice, plumsmart, since pandemic occasionally little fireball mixed drink when I can’t sleep. Hard liquor taste like kerosene to me. Beer blows my up and give me headache. Wine to sour for me, I have hard enough time getting down the plumsmart beings they changed the formula.

We have 3 or 4 bottles of wine ready to pour. We use a system that only punctures the cork with fine needle. Keeps wine perfect for up to a year, so don’t have to waste a $50 bottle of wine, because just can’t finish, or need more than one variety for a dinner.

Most nights, we enjoy a bottle of wine. Usually, I buy it by the case from Naked Wines. Occasionally, we will drink mules instead, that is if the new arrivals haven’t bought all the Gosling ginger beer. Once in a great while, we will drink Knob Creek or Baileys ( for my wife). Being a former home brewer, I enjoy a nice beer once in a while. Have gotten away from beer as it tends to cause bloating for me.

Your post reminds me of an amusing incident out of the distant past...

I had just begun dating my wife (Thai immigrant), living up in Duluth, MN at the time. We were talking about going out for dinner. I hadn't known her long so I suggested a restaurant where I knew the drink service was first-rate.

"Oh, I'm allergic to alcohol" she said. "It makes my face numb and I can't talk right".

I find a well rested bottle of Fresca, properly cooled of course, is the idea accompaniment for most meals. It pairs well with peanut butter, crunchy, with jelly or marmalade. For some meals, as you certainly know, Diet Coke with or without caffeine is preferred by many. It does enhance the Buffalo wings.

For more casual occasions, Lipton citrus diet iced tea is an excellent option. I always have several bottles ready to pour.

Bwah-hah-hah-hah!!! There's no way on God's green earth that a bottle of wine would last a year in my house, whether it was already opened or not. Unless it was a muscodine, that thing would be here until the end of time. I tell you what, Tennessee makes some of the finest whisky in the free world, but the grapes that grow there are downright disgusting.

I make wine as a hobby so there is usually a few bottles of that lying around. I'm not much for mixed drinks; just about always something on the austere side like a vodka-tonic. Being of Slavic heritage we usually have a bottle or two of slivovitz lying around. I was surprised when I found out that the liquor stores down here actually carry it.

We had just moved here and I was gathering up stuff to make a batch of wine. Lacking plastic tubing I went to Lowe's and asked if they carried food-grade plastic tubing. The guy looked at me and asked what on earth I'd need food-grade tubing for. I told him it was for winemaking. "Never been asked for that before" the guy said. "Some people come here for things to make whiskey stills out of but that's about all".

Rarely enjoy alcoholic drinks these day, so when I do I want it to be something I really enjoy. 18 year old or better, single malt scotch straight up. Other choice is occasionally a straight shot of Suntory whiskey.

Single barrel bourbon from small craft distilleries. A wide variety can be found at Unlocking Craft Spirits - Online retail dedicated to craft distillers

– Seelbach's (https://seelbachs.com). IMO, much better than any bourbon found in liquor stores.

Ecuadog’s Michelada

Wet rim of 18 ounce glass.
Coat rim with Tajin.
Add 4 ice cubes.
Add a few good dashes of Tabasco.
Add a good squirt of bottled lemon juice.
Add a few good dashes of Worcestershire sauce.
Pour in beer til glass is about 2/3 full.
Fill glass with Clamato (Original, Picante or Limon).

You can find the powdered Mexican seasoning Tajin in the international aisle of Publix. Use whatever beer is on hand. I just scored some New Belgium Voodoo Ranger on a BOGO at Publix. Once in a while, I’ll sneak a scant shot of vodka in there too.

Budweiser makes a Clamato chelada also, very popular in the immigrant and working class neighborhoods of So Cal, easily found in many 7-11's.

FWIW- Michelada is a beer cocktail with a Tajin (Tah-heen) rim and contains many of the ingredients mentioned above by Ecuadog (worcestshire sauce, tabasco etc.). Chelada usually uses just salt and lime.

My tastes have changed over the years. Back in college we made rum runs to Tillie's liquor store in Palomas, Mexico. Columbus alumni honor 'Tillie,' Dona Irwin (https://www.demingheadlight.com/story/news/2017/04/25/columbus-alumni-honor-tillie-dona-irwin/100847964/) Pete's, a bar across the street, while our cars were being loaded, gave us Zombies which were iced tea glasses filled with multiple layers of rum. (Last time I was down there Pete's was gone. I was told the Federales had arrested Pete.) We came back with Bacardi flasks in baskets and gallon cans of Everclear grain alcohol. We mixed the rum with Coca Cola and poured the Everclear into punch. Coors was the beer of choice although I never was much for beer. The Delta Chi Tau fraternity in "Animal House" had nothing on us.

Now I enjoy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons such as Stag's Leap and Bordeaux, especially Chateau Palmer.

Right now hubby and I are drinking Patron tequila to watch Formula 1. (F1 is in Mexico, Patron is too.) He made his into margarita; blue agave, lime with salt rim and crushed ice and is looking around for a straw to sip it. I’m having a small amount straight as this stuff is goood tequila.

Any beer works for me in a Michelada.

I have enjoyed Voodoo Ranger IPA in the past. My recent BOGO score was for Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze IPA. It has a little higher alcohol content and is a little less bitter. I enjoyed it also. My favorite brew is probably Duvel, but don't look to me for beer advice. I am more of a cocktail person.

Water or tea during the day, then once it's 4pm-ish, we'll typically drink rum & diet (for me) or bourbon & diet (for hubby) for a Happy Hour drink. Sometimes a different mixed drink as the mood strikes.

We also typically split a bottle of wine with dinner - anything from a $3 buck chuck or box wine through a $300+ bottle, depending on occasion, where we are, what we're in the mood for, or what we have on hand. I rate wines as a hobby on the Vivino app, so I tend to drink a lot of different ones, but I typically prefer Napa Valley Cabernets - like manaboutown, one of my favorites is Stag's Leap. We also buy cases of wines from NakedWines.com and I've found a couple extremely reasonably priced gems from there.

Occasionally we'll also have a small glass of sherry or port before bed.

Most often, San Pellegrino Popelmo [grapefruit] soda and vodka. It’s the only flavor of San Pellegrino that isn’t terrible, but it is an excellent mixer, though hard to find. Last night, Amaro di Toscana [a bitter herbal aperitif made in Tuscany] and Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic Water. (I love the bitter liquors like Campari and Aperol, Green Chartreuse and Benedictine.) If it’s a whiskey night, I prefer Evan Williams to more expensive brands because it is very sour, which I like mixed with Gosling’s Diet Ginger Beer. For sipping, try Ensign Red Mango flavored Canadian whiskey over crushed ice. It’s like drinking a perfectly ripe mango. Often I drink Not Your Father’s Root Beer, which tastes exactly like a very good root beer but has more alcohol than many beers.

Water, red wine, Mexican beer or vodka neat. Water because I never drink soda (Coke, Pepsi etc). Red wine because I like Merlot or Cab. Mexican beer because I only drink beer out of bottles, never cans, and I like that Mexican beers don't have screw caps...and I like Mexican beer. Vodka neat, with 3 olives, preferably Titos. I used to hate Scotch,.. I mean, really hate Scotch.

Later, I went on a graduate school trip to Scotland and was lucky enough to room with the grandson of a major jewelry chain. He like to drink, and he liked to show off, so he bought flights of scotch every night and seldom paid attention to who actually drank them.

We went to a pub named the Copper Pot in Glasgow. The bartender asked what I wanted and I shared that I didn't like Scotch (the only thing they served). The bartender took a little offense and accepted the challenge to change my mind.

They had shots (Drams as they call them) from $5 to $2000. The $2000 stuff was locked behind plexiglass on the top shelf.

Once I realized that Scotch was a slow sipping drink rather than a head-tilting fast swallow, I began to appreciate the smokey brew. The bartender pointed out the caramel notes, the fruit, and the grasses.

Somehow, I staggered away with an appreciation for Scotch. My rich show-off room-mate made sure my dram was never empty that trip and I still drink Scotch from time to time.

I generally drink Johnny Walker Black as it is a good mid-point between the top and bottom shelf.

My current and long term poison is Scotch, i have several bottles of top shelf, and several bottom shelf that I use for mixing.

BTW, are there any Cocktail Clubs at TV where folks can share drink recipes, and perhaps sample the “drink of the week”?

Love the Vivino app. Just take a picture of the bottle and it tells you the rating. Plus it is a great place to buy wines.

Glad to meet someone else that uses the Vivino app. I got hooked on using it several years ago when touring wineries in the Finger Lakes and have used it ever since. Look me up on there sometime (same screen name as here on ToTV) - I can always use another follower or someone else to follow! :)

No will have to try the Fever Tree ginger beer.

I forgot to note that my brother when he was in high school would buy jugs of Welch's grape juice, add yeast and capped with a balloon. He kept it in a a small hideaway and, after the balloon shrunk, he would rebottle in smaller bottles to sell at school. One day he came home from school to find our mom pouring his brew down the sink. Me - I would have begged for forgiveness. My brother - he cried out "Mom, that is good money you are pouring down the sink!"

Sounds like that song, “tequila makes her clothes fall off””🤪😂

I'm from Texas, Jose Quervo Gold, I mix it with 7 up, and Smirnoff vodka mixed with Spicy hot V 8, makes a pretty good Bolldy Mary.

An old favorite tune of mine

Water, coffee or tea. Anything with alcohol in it is poison to me, I'm highly allergic.
We're basically non drinkers as well. Alcohol is carcinogenic for about ten or so different cancers. In addition to the other toxic effects. At a restaurant , we share one glass of wine. That's about it.

We have 3 or 4 bottles of wine ready to pour. We use a system that only punctures the cork with fine needle. Keeps wine perfect for up to a year, so don’t have to waste a $50 bottle of wine, because just can’t finish, or need more than one variety for a dinner.

My daughter is a wine lover - I would like to share your fine needle system with her - sounds like a great way to enjoy those special wines on multiple occasions. Thanks!

Well, right now it is Gatorade fruit punch straight from the plastic bottle.

What am I drinking? Well, nothing at the moment, but that's about to change. My "go to" is gin and tonic.

My wife doesn't drink at all. Never liked the stuff. A few years ago I ruptured an achilles tendon and couldn't drive. I didn't want to send her to the liquor store because I knew she didn't really know how much booze costs (in New York-yipes)...so I was drinking everything we had left over from parties, and stuff other people had brought and left behind. Some of it was horrid. A lot of it was horrid.
Eventually I had to ask her to pick up a "handle" of Dewars. I had to send her a picture on the phone so she'd know what it looked like.
I heard the front door open..."Holy $hyte!!! Fifty-five bucks for this! I gotta start spending some money!!" I knew I was screwed.

At least you realized your mistake...

I learned to NEVER ask my wife for a gift from a music store...

If she saw the current prices on guitars (even though I didn't pay those prices), I'm a dead man and there will be a big garage sale...

Oh, and after I bought her a starter golf club set, she suggested I buy a second set of clubs to keep in TV, rather than schlep my clubs back and forth... I didn't have the guts to tell her my Driver cost more than her entire set...:eek::eek:

When I (occasionally) drink, I like one of two things: True Grit Cabernet Sauvignon, or a Montparnasse cocktail: Calvados & Elderflower liqueur, topped up with chardonnay, in a Reidel Nick and Nora cocktail glass. Have to go to wine.com to find the Calvados, the Elderflower liqueur, and the True Grit.
Nick and Nora glasses are on Amazon:

A “vodka martini” is like ordering a scotch gin and tonic, or a bourbon gimlet with a cherry. Thanks to James Bond, we now have vodka martinis, shaken not stirred. Today of course, you will get your drink, whereas a few decades ago you would have gotten a look from the bartender like you had lost your mind.
A martini is gin (not vodka) and vermouth, stirred (not shaken) up, with an olive. With a cocktail onion, it is a Gibson, not a martini with an onion. And who came up with a dirty martini?
Of course you must realize that I am just having some fun here, but nevertheless, it makes me smile whenever I hear some new concoction called a martini. (Now being from Maine, I did concoct the Mainetini; a martini with a pickled fiddlehead, but sadly it never caught on.

Yesterday it was sangria that I made with white wine, fresh squeeze fruit juices, rum, and home-made simple syrup (can you believe people pay $4 or more for a 12-oz bottle of just water-diluted table sugar with preservatives added? Insane! It costs less than 25 cents to make that yourself in the microwave - and no preservatives.)
