I may need to have the existing paint/stain on my driveway ground off. If I go with this approach, I will have the driveway restained. I am a bit concerned about the integrity of the concrete after the grinding. Has anyone had experience with this process?

They only take off a fraction of an inch, if you have the driveway painted or stained, make real sure that a friction additive is included or you will have a very slippery surface.

They take off more than just a fraction of an inch, concrete isn't flat to begin with.
I'd try to have it chemically removed before going down that road.

Been in the Concrete Business most of my life. You can feel good about grinding the last design off your driveway without hurting the structure of the CONCRETE.

Make sure they keep water running on the blade that is removing your paint or else you are going to have some wildly crazy neighbors. The dust is amazing. They also should contain as much of the muck as possible that is created by the dust and water. Forget the chemical route. Trust me you'll be sorry if you go that way. Removing the layers down to the bare concrete is the best way to go before you start your new design. Best of luck.
