Villages Firefighter’s Thanksgiving Dinner organizing meeting 11/10/2021 at 3:30PM

Ok, I failed miserably with the last meeting, not enough notice, and lousy weather. Let’s try to do this again.

The plan is to provide a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner to the Firefighters work on Thanksgiving Day. We have 10 fire station here in The Villages so it will take a large group of people to participating to make this happen. Divide this by the 10 fire stations and it is not such a daunting task.

On Wednesday, November 10th at 3:30 PM in the Intrepid room at Lake Miona Rec Center I will be holding a meeting for those who would like to be station coordinators for the fire station in their area.

The coordinators job is not a difficult one:
They contact the fire station to get an accurate headcount and setup a delivery time
Reach out to local neighborhood group, clubs, and social media to get volunteers to prepare the dishes for the dinner,
Coordinate what is being provided (so we don’t get 8 green bean casseroles and no mashed potatoes),
and supervise the delivery of the meal to their fire station.

The process works best with 2 or 3 coordinators working together for each fire station.

Right now, we have coordinators assigned to stations 46 and 47 south of SR44

We need coordinators for stations 44 and 45 between CR466a and SR44, the 3 fire stations between CR466 and CR466a, and the 3 fire stations north of SR466.

I know there may be lots of questions, I’ll try to answer them all on Wednesday.

I’ve had many reach out to me so far stay they will provide a dish, please wait on these until we can make the coordinators list available. Yes, we can also accept a cash contribution that will be used for things like buying sodas and storage containers for the leftovers. Any additional funds leftover will be given to VPSD to allow them to help any Firefighter who may be going the tough times or a family crisis. Again, please wait on these contributions until the station coordinators are announced.

Meeting location is
Lake Miona Rec Center, Intrepid Room
Wednesday, November 10th, 3:30 PM

If you have questions, please feel free to call me at 352-661-6175

Please help show your appreciation to our Firefighters, volunteer to be a coordinator for the fire station near you. I continue to receive responses for those wanting to donate food, we just need the coordinators to get this rolling.

I applaud your generosity but wouldn't this be better served to say the HOMELESS.

Villages firefighters earn an average of $50k. I think they could afford to order an Uber Eats turkey dinner. Just sayin.

Can we all assume that you have taken up the yoke of generosity for the Homeless this Thanksgiving? Or is your moral high ground just shifting sand?

There is a certain nicety of saying thanks to our firefighters

I anxiously await vikingjunior’s post asking for volunteers for the homeless shelter for thanksgiving.

I already volunteer, but whatever. https://iesmarion.org/

Even the firefighters would probably prefer you give it to people more needy.

I wasn't being nasty like yourself, but just offering an opinion. If folks can't handle replies don't post on a public forum.
