Is it just me or are there a lot more than the usual number of broken gates? Why?

Someone said there are about 2500 broken gates a year. People drive through them for various reasons, one of which is probably people think they can follow a car in front of them when the gate is open but it closes on them thus breaking when it comes down on them.

I've notice more in the past 2 weeks as well as foursomes behind us hitting onto us before we get a chance to get off the green! It's that time of year!

Oh yeh it’s always the snowbirds, year round residents are always perfect and you can always distinguish between both groups , the snowbirds mostly smile while the year round are usually rolling there eyes every time they see an out of state plate or complaining that they can’t get into Perkins and home by 6 pm anymore because of the traffic

Still relatively new to The Villages, the gates seem oddly timed to me and have gotten close to a few always going out of the village before they eventually started up. The wife has coached me to slow down to a stop almost before getting too close to the gate, problem solved.

Speed bumps would be a good alternate to gates.

I have no idea if the foursome were snowbirds or not.
But if they were hitting onto the green from the tee box, even on executive courses, they are good golfers and know golf etiquette.
Was it a championship course?
Were you playing slowly?
Could they have thought you cleared?

They could buy flexible gates that don't break.

I'd rather see tire spikes.

:cus:, especially the ones on el Camino Reno. Why would you need speed bump when you have to make 90 degree turn into and out of tunnel when there concrete wall if you don’t make turn? One by hospital are the most horrendous speed bumps IMO. Those definitely make you come to halt and you still get bounced around.

I'm not seeing much of an increase in the gates being down...but we don't drive all over TV unless we have first time visitors here
somehow I have a sense of relief when I pass through a gate that's been knocked down and I don't have to stop and wave the little card
it's always a wild card when the gate is 'stuck' in the upright position...sometimes it says up, sometimes it comes down as soon as you approach, sometimes it comes down right after you go through.....when I encounter those I always slow down

Agree. Speed bumps will not slow vehicular traffic down enough for golf carts to proceed at the entrances/exits.
