The "relocating" section of TOTV lists three internet providers, Century Link, Xfinity and Spectrum. Does anyone have any comments, experience or recommendations you are willing to share with a newcomer?

I have also used Xfinity high speed internet for over five years with minimal problem. I never call Xfinity for help, but I go into one of the Xfinity stores here if I need to make changes. We live stream and do not use Xfinity cable service.

Generally I have found Xfinity to be the best priced and also good service. Keep an eye out for specials. I currently have 50 mbps for $25 per month for the first year which is more than enough bandwidth for my wife and I.

Spectrum is great.
Been with them ~10 years, no issues.
Had the cable cut by contractors a couple of times, they fixed it that day.
200 Mbps............I don't need that fast, but it's fun.

This is too funny. It used to be that fast cars were more fun, now it's the internet. What happened to us?

Not all services are available in all locations of TV, so the OP might want to indicate at least the village they are moving to.

Good point. It's the Hammock at Fenny. I tried to get some pricing info on the Xfinity website but they want the address and it's not in the system yet. I just have to be patient, all this will fall into place.

If you mainly stream your TV and want the best and cheapest get 1GB Quantum Fiber Internet for $65/month for life. I believe they give you a free Wi-Fi router as well that will cover your whole house. No taxes, etc.. Almost every home built from 2015 on in the Villages already has the fiber connection at their home.

Most people these days have Netflix, PrimeTV, AppleTV and other streaming services. If you have a smartTV or a Ruku or an AppleTV device there are many free apps to get a lot of the channel content that you get with cable. If there are some specific channels you want that you can't stream for free you can always pay for add Hulu, YouTubeTV and other services that will give you most or all of the cable channels. At the end of the day, you can go traditional and get cable and fuss with the rate increases and the switching when they raise your price after a year or two or just stream everything with only an internet connection and you are done. You will probably find getting just internet and streaming everything will probably be cheaper and better than going with traditional cable and you won't have the traditional problems with set top boxes, raising rates and outages. These days streaming services like Hulu and YouTubeTV and others give you the "cable" experience cheaper and it's very easy to use. If you go to Get Blazing Fast Quantum Fiber Internet for your Home or Business (http://www.quantumfiber.com) they also have a section showing how to subscribe to these streaming services if you want to. I recently moved to the Villages and have Quantum Fiber and many of my neighbors have switched since they also now just stream TV and wanted a fixed low price.

If I had my choice, I would go with Fiber. (Whichever provider)

But no fiber in my neighborhood… only xfinity, Century Link DSL or TMobile home internet. I used Century Link for 3 years without problem but it is very slow.

I decided to try TMobile and have had that for 4 months now. I am very satisfied. 150 mb/sec download; $50 per month; no contract; no hardware to buy or rent

I have Quantum(Centurylink) Gigabit fiber and am very happy. My wife and I both work from home in high tech and need reliable internet. It has been very reliable for us thus far.

Moving to St Catherine’s this February, are all 3 of these providers available in this area?

Thanks everyone. Lots of good feedback. The two places I live at now are pretty remote and the fastest speed I can get is 25. The comments of these high speeds make me wonder if it might cause me to get a brain freeze.

We have Spectrum and the first year it was $55, I’m now in my second year and it went up to $70 and next year it will go up to $80. Since we will be full time by then we will probably look around for a cheaper alternative. It has been reliable and fast though.

Spectrum is the only one I’d use. Reasonable price they give you includes equipment and taxes. Only one I would trust right now. We moved from Charlotte, NC and had the best service there - Google Fiber. We have had Spectrum in the past and did not like it at all. Here we went with Century Link - which they just upgraded to Quantum fiber at no charge. We are very happy and believe we are seeing same speed and service with saw with Google Fiber. We use YouTube TV to stream and get great speed and service. I also understand that Century seldom increases rates (something Spectrum tries to do annually. If you can get CenturyLink/Quantum Fiber where you live (just became availble where we live in Dunedin) - I highly recommend it.

We've had both Xfinity and Spectrum since we moved here. The former will hike prices until you quit while new subscribers get a substantial newcomer rate. (I had Xfinity in Michigan before we move here and has the distinction of being dumped by me twice.) Used Spectrum for a number of years but our "faster" internet was $99 a mo. Have recently switched to T Mobile 5G. It's fine for streaming and our other needs but costs half as much as Spectrum. (We had to change from Hulu to You Tube TV with T Mobile but they get a discount for YT so it saves a little money there too.)

Just got Xfinity internet for $20 per month for a 12 month contract with ebilling and auto pay. Plus I own my own equipment.
Good enough speed for streaming through YouTube TV.

If you live in the Historic Section of the Villages I have century link for 35 a month. I run 2 smart tvs and 2 phones all at the same time with very little interuptions. It is a slower speed but it streams ok with using Hulu.

We are being manipulated. Am I the only one to notice, used to be my cell phone is smaller than your cell phone. Now we brag my cell phone is bigger than your cell phone.

Your internet speed. For many your computer is slower than your POTENTIAL internet speed. It can't go faster than the slowest part of the system.

Marketing of technical products is exactly the same as illegal drugs. They get you hooked and then raise the price. You see it with most products they SELL. Free trial. They know exactly how many will forget to cancel.

Does anyone know if there is fiber in Citrus Grove? Also what the best usage of the Cat6 wire in the ceiling of the new homes

It all depends where you live. You get the carrier that serves your area , you can't choose which one you get, But.... you can get Verizon wireless or T mobile wireless over the air... Verizon and T Mobile over the air only can give you about 25 mbs where a hard wired carrier can give you 100 mbs +

You have fiber to the post and coax from the post to house.

The ceiling connection was probably intended for an access point. (Guessing since the Villages could not give me a straight answer what they were thinking.)

But seems redundant when the is typically a wire and power at the top of the kitchen cabinets a few feet away that would give good WiFi coverage.

We are thinking of switching from Xfinity $68. or unlimited data $98. a month (very fast speeds) because we are reaching our 1.2T limit to T-Mobile internet for $50. per month with no limits, but has slower speeds. We stream 4k tv, have computer and phones connected all day…. My concern would be the speed…. Anyone have any thoughts or do you have T-Mobile?

I wish I had a choice of spectrum or xfinity. if I did, I would just switch every time one raised a rate because I'd get the introductory offers each time. my only choice right now is xfinity (the good century link is not available here, either). I'm going to be watching how people feel the tmobile is working out.

I have a T-Mobile Gateway device for internet. I stream TV with it. So far, no issues. $50/month, no contracts. You don't need to be a T-Mobile cellular customer to get it.

Experience with all 3 (not necessarily here) as follows:

Xfinity: Current provider. Blazing fast internet over which we stream Amazon Prime and Roku. That along with YouTube is more TV than we need. Price just went up in October but that wasn't a surprise; when I got it I knew that the introductory rate was for only a year. Tech support good, though a housecall is $100.00. They know their stuff though and the guy who came out for us stayed until the problem was totally solved. I'm mildly displeased at the price but I'm getting what I am paying for.

CenturyLink: Previously a customer for years, out of state. Good price and no surprises about that. Customer support generally good but sometimes your calls get routed to BFE or wherever, and trying to have a discussion with an English-As-A-Distant-Second-Language person can be frustrating. Service was a bit slow however; with my recent experience with xFinity I doubt I'd ever go back to them unless there was no other choice.

Spectrum: My experiences with Spectrum were some years back, and hopefully they've changed, but they turned me off completely. I ordered an internet-TV package. Guy took nearly a whole day to install it, "it", being a modem that looked like it came over on the Mayflower. When I fired up the TV the picture decidedly was NOT what I expected. TV at the time was 1080 but the picture was worse than 720. Not only that, but the internet service, billed as blazing fast, was anything but. Not only that but it would boot me offline about once every five minutes. Support (which I FINALLY got connected to after about a half-hour of trying) gave me a song-and-dance that the internet speed depended on how many other people were online at the time (turned out I was in one of the last places in that particular group) but that if I went online during less peak hours the speed would increase and the booting offline should decrease. The TV picture? The tech guy hypothesized that there must be something wrong with my TV. After a rather heated conversation they finally agreed to come out the next morning and remove everything. Suffice it to say, they're a distant third on my list.
