MY wife and friends are comming to the villages. We already purchased our land and will be setting up what we want in the house. Our friends are comming to possible purchase. What we would like to also do is have fun while we are in TV. Our dates arrive on OCT. 31 2010 and stay for the week leaving on Nov 6 2010. Can anyone tell us what would be the most fun things to do and what groups we might visits. Not really into golf yet. Thank you for your help.

Go to the town squares in the evening for dinner and dancing. Check out a couple of clubs that share your interests. Find at least one activity at the rec centers that sound like fun (line dancing, exercise classes, art, whatever). Play some water volleyball; bocce; shufflboard. Not sure if polo will still be playing but, if it is, take in a game or two. Get the Daily Sun and see what activities are going on that day and do them. Rent a golf cart for a week, day, month and drive around -- let yourself get lost a time or two, you'll be amazed at what you can find by accident.
And, of course, enjoy your week in between getting your home ready.

I am also coming 10/24 for a week to look for a house to buy. I have been reading many posting thru-out the different forums and picked up some goods tips. However, it still feels a little overwhelming by not knowing the area.

Hi Bransonhillbilly,
It's understanding that you would feel a little overwhelmed. Wait 'til you get here! Whatever you think now-- well, it's more better!
:pepper2::pepper2::pepper2:
Don't worry though. You can get an excellent overview by taking the free tour. Ask about it at the Lake Sumter Landing sales office. If you're coming on the Lifestyle Preview, you'll be provided with a golf cart. Be sure to go to the town squares, check out some of pools and rec. centers and pick up a copy of the weekly activities news for a list of events going on while you're there.
Please post again and tell us all about your visit! Have a great time.

p.s., Oh, it's your first post. Welcome to TOTV!

Hi Bransonhillbilly - we are also coming down next week for a month and i found this thread in the New Members section helpful.
"Any advise for our first Lifestyle Preview Plan?" (https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32084) You can go to thread tools and pull up a printable version. (click put 40 per page and it will be two pages long for printing.
I am bringing it as a reminder, although, I know from our short spring stay, it is difficult to decide there are so many things.
Good luck setting up your house (Lucky you.) Be sure to have fun though.

I could not get a Cabana. There wasn't any openings. Can you believe that? They sold some recently. So, I got a hotel room. I'm going to call back tomorrow about a sales rep. I wonder if I can still do the other part of the life style??? I have four names of salesmen at TV. Tarrant Potter,Greg Hudak, Jim McLaughlin, and Bobby Gulatti. Anyone care to vote on them.

Do as both redwitch and pturner suggest - some very good ideas. The first couple of times we were in TV, we excelled at getting confused about where to go on all the golf cart/multimodal trails........til someone suggested we spring for "the $5 map". It's available at the TV sales office(s) and perhaps some other locations as well. It's a necessity for understanding the cart paths.
Another thing: It's real easy to get overwhelmed as there always seems like there's so much you want to do yet not enough time to get it all in during a relatively short stay. Don't let that get you thrown off track - prioritize the things you want to see/try/accomplish/experience........then leave the remaining items for your next trip!! Just relax, have fun, and enjoy whatever you choose to do!
We're looking forward to the future when we'll be able to come to TV for the full winters, not just a week or two here and there.

I agree with Redwitch, PTurner and BillandBrillo.
Use the map to become familiar on how to get from point A to point B. Prioritize what is most important or enjoyable to you.
Don't stress out thinking your missing something as you will never be able to get to do everything in a few days.
I know I was getting crazy thinking of all the things I wanted to do when I was visiting TV and trying to do everything.
Enjoy yourselves and be happy.

I have another salesman to add to your list Justin Wilson, I loved him....no pressure whatsoever. Even now (after I've built and have been living here for 3 months) if I have a question I still call or e-mail him and he finds the info I need. Would highly recommend him.

Sounds like there are quite a few of you coming down to look and buy...You all should get together and have dinner or lunch somewhere and talk and exchange your experiances there....Sounds like fun!:beer3:

Recently did the lifestyle visit in August and plan to move to TV Jan 2012, we were told that once we buy our lot we have up to 1 year to build. I recall reading somewhere in this forum that people are now saying that you have up to 2 years to build. Anyone know for sure. Thanks JackZ
UPDATED INFO:
Made contact with our assigned sales rep, Lynn Peterson who confirmed that the 2 year to build rumor is just that, a rumor. The rule still is that you have a maximum of 1 year to start building from the day you purchase your lot. Jack Z.

I'd be interested to know as well. I've always thought it was one year as well.

Please don't follow redwitch's advice. I seldom do. As you clearly stated that you would be here for a week, renting a golf cart for a month makes no sense. But do rent a golf cart and do buy the $5 map. This time of year promises great weather and, much to rw's chagrin, other people's dogs are not allowed at your dining table so dining out is still fun.

Laurie was wonderful to work with. She really listened and knew what we were wanting yet was never pushy. She was able to help us get our dream home at a very good price and held our hands through the whole process.

And congratulations to your friends! We will be just east of them on Ansley Path. We put a deposit on a lot on the south side of Ansley Path at the point where the cul-de-sac circle begins. We plan to begin building in August 2011 and retire/move in April 2012.
Let the good times roll!

I second the vote for Justin Wilson. He spent a great deal of time with us and gave us so much good advice & information. As it turned out, we did not purchase through him. The home we found was represented by an outside realtor. We wanted to use Justin, but he couldn't represent us for this purchase. He was totally fine with it, congratulated us on a good find and even offered to be of assistance if we had any questions about the Villages or the area that he could answer.
