I have really been out of the loop the past few weeks. I haven't watched much television, read, been online or listened to the radio.

What is your reference for the statement? Did Beck say it on his television show or on the radio? Also, if I know what day he said it (if it was on television) I can look it up. I'd like to know what context he said it in before I comment.

Maybe not a bad idea. Students fare very well and score much higher in tests with no differences in achievement between the races which is not true in public schools where minority students achieve less than their counterparts by comparison.
