Looking for recommendations for a great shoulder surgeon other than Dr. Albert Cook who is a great one but I can't handle his clerical staff anymore, they finally broke the camels back and I won't go back there. If you have had success elsewhere please share your experience.

Dr Isaac Mitchell, if you can find him. He was in practice with Dr's Cook, Kerina, and Williams before they all went into private practice. He is exceptional. I just looked it up and he is still in the area. Presently practicing with UF Health Orthopaedics in Summerfield and Leesburg. Worked with many of his patients post-op and they recovered very well.

Just had my shoulder done last Friday by Dr Marc Rogers in Ocala. He and his staff are fantastic. He was highly recommended by friends who had shoulder surgery. I’m in very little pain and everything went great. Highly recommend. He is with The Orthopedic Institute, 1710 SE 16th Avenue, Ocala, FL 34471 (352) 620-1900

Had my rotator cuff done three weeks ago by Dr. Krueger from The Orthopedic Institute in Summerfield. Extensive amount of work and very little pain after the surgery.

After my shoulder began to sound like a gravel driveway, quite common for our age, I had a reverse arthroplasty with Dr. Michael Messieh, who is located in The Villages .Excellent job

Dr. Mitchell is now with UF Hospital in Leesburg. He operated on my rotator cuff in July and I'm very happy with the results.

Dr Krueger from The Orthopedic Institute did full reverse shoulder replacement after I had a catastrophic injury to my shoulder this past June. It was a complicated surgery I'm told and I'm doing great.

Cook did my shoulder. Surgery good but nerve block did damage could take up to a year for those brachial plexus nerves to regenerate. The reason I’d never go back there is the wait! Two hours an avg. when I signed in for my appointment three others had same appt time with Cook! dr locker did my hip replacement and also does shoulders and knees. In Ocala. Know five who used him. All happy with successful outcomes. And they are always on time!!

Cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Mahmood with the Orthopedic Institute on 16th St. in Ocala. It's only 35 minutes there. They use West Marion Hospital Center, on Rt. 200, just off 75. We will not go to anyother hospital. Wife and I both have had shoulder repairs done in the last 2 years...both doctor and hospital are fantastic.
Others have mentioned Dr. Mitchell. Father-in-law, who was in excellent health going in, had shoulder replacement done at Leesburg Hospital in 2019 by Dr. Mitchell. Supposedly the surgery went well, but between oversight ...or whatever... father-in-law was dead 3 days later. Sorry... we won't use Dr. Mitchell or Leesburg.

I think that is par for the villages. There are so many excellent doctors but their staff is terrible, rude and don’t always call you back. Nobody answers their phone!

Can not say enough for Dr. Michael Messiah==office staff is great, but waiting time may be a little long as he is only in Villages one day a week. Has office in Clermont that he will get you if you don't mind the drive there. Can not say enough about him and have had several friends that feel the say way!

Dr. Cook is so busy. I was there 3 hours. They goofed up my wives pain medication and she did not get it for 10 days. Also waited on the phone twice for 45 minutes had to go there in person to get to talk to someone and there's no parking. So done with that office.

Vintageoguage, there was an informative thread a while back that I saved as I'm avoiding surgery via physical therapy but saving names of surgeons just in case. You might want to take a look. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/medical-health-discussion-94/i-am-looking-best-rotator-cuff-orthopedic-surgeon-here-villages-317295/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=TOTV+Newsletter
I was interested in the poster who said the surgeon sent him home with some pain medication dispenser and that he had little to no pain. Dr. Cook's office said they would send me home with a circulating cooling apparatus that my friend who had the same surgery at a different practice found Medicare took care of, but that Cook's office was going to charge me almost $200 for and wouldn't take no for an answer. Good luck in your search. If I end up needing the surgery, I will not be using Cook.
I also suggest googling some podcast and/or lectures from doctors on the latest in shoulder problems, specifically ratator cuff, if that is your problem. Lately they are saying physical therapy first, surgery last. So far that has been my solution, along with ongoing shoulder exercises at home.

After being told by Dr. Cook that I needed surgery I went home to check with my wife as far as scheduling, I called back after 2 days and left a message, subsequently called 7 more times and left messages for Kara, she never called back, finally on the 9th try I left another message including my cell number, she called back on my house phone when I wasn't home and said that she has no record of me having to schedule surgery and that I never left her a message, wow.. I went back through my cell phone and found that I had 7 of the 8 calls listed on my phone so the other two would have been on my land line. Finally I asked to get a date set and she said I had to make another appointment to schedule surgery that they changed their policy and no longer make appointments over the phone. What kind of crap is that, everyone that leaves there after seeing the doctor without scheduling surgery has to make another appointment? I told her I'll go elsewhere rather than sit in that lobby for another 2 hours or more just to schedule surgery. Unbelievable. Here's another peeve, when I originally called for my shoulder I also had a problem with my knee so I wanted to make an appointment for both, nope, you have to have two separate appointments one for each limb, again, unbelievable.

All these "testimonials" have convinced me never to call for an appointment with Dr. Cook. Husband needs to have a shoulder injury looked at. I called Dr. Mitchell's office at UF Leesburg and was told that Dr. Mitchell prefers to schedule appts. with new patients only after reading the operative report of any prior shoulder surgery. The report was delivered to his office the following morning, Nov. 17th. I wonder how long it will take before getting any reaction from him.
Since The Villages expanded below Hwy 44, it seems like we are subject to the rationing of services here, from healthcare to yard maintenance.

Wait times in the office for either Dr. Cook or Dr. Williams are awful, two hours minimum, even if you are the first appointment of the day.
The office staff are very nice with one previously mentioned exception.
Being left on hold and not returning calls is the norm.
Both doctors are very good.
They overbook and are simply too greedy.

Hope you find someone but I hate when you can’t get by the guards at the gate. Don’t know why some office personal get on power trips. If the doctor only knew…

I’m having Dr. Cook do a reverse shoulder replacement on my left shoulder on 12/27. I am a bit apprehensive, not about the surgery itself, but of potential pain after, and I can’t picture how it will look. I suppose like normal, but I’m a worrier.

Several of you have mentioned seeing or having surgery by Dr. Cook, but there are 2 Orthopedic surgeons by the name of Dr. Cook who practice in The Villages. There's a Dr. Jay Cook who is in with Dr. Mitchell, and there's a Dr. Alfred Cook who is also an Orthopedic doctor. When talking about your experience, it would be nice if you would specify which Dr. Cook.

It's in my original post, Dr. Alfred Cook and that is who we are discussing along with possible replacements, he's the one that makes 3 appointments for the same time and makes you wait sometimes for up to 2 hours to get in for a 3 minute follow up. You have to read all of the replies as well as the original topic.

I see Dr. Michael Messieh; a genius. Staff is great.
A V O I D orthopedic institute. Saw doc 2.5 months ago and STILL no call for surgery date
Dr Henry.
So, I’m going to a great Dr now and they booked me already!
I had Dr. Cook for wrist surgery and each visit I was taken in for x-ray before my appointment time and Dr. Cook was either on time or early. From reading this thread, I guess I was lucky. I'm happy with the result. I was back playing tennis in two months with a new plate and several screws in my left wrist.
