FYI: Moved from TV to MO & notified Massey on 9-11. Was told my refund process would take 4-6 weeks. Here it is 11-17 and no refund. Each time I call I'm told that it has to be processed through several departments & to give it a couple more weeks. Cannot be given of a name or department that can be contacted to find out where it is in the process. No name or number for anyone at corporate. Called a number published as corporate and it went right to the local office. Seems the Keystone Cops are running the shop.

By you posting your experience it has cost them business with profits far exceeding what they owe you. I don't understand why companies do that in this age of social media. If someone wants a pre-payment that means they don't have enough money to stay around without cheating people. I would never pay in advance for anything.

We had two properties. Not knowing any better, hired Massey for yard and for home. The yard guys destroyed the yards. The home guys were pretty good. Fought with Massey manager who tried to put the blame on us for not letting them tear out and replace entire irrigation system, both properties. Showed them the bugs that were eating the roots. The bugs they were supposed to be killing. Deny, deny, deny! Told them they were fired and mgr wanted to fight about that. Would NEVER recommend Massey yard service.
House protection guys must belong to a different group, they have been great and we still use them.

Just checked BBB, first thing that came up is Massey rates 1.27 (one star). Pretty poor. Lots of complaints. If only we had bothered to check first.

1.Have you filed a complaint with the BBB? Do it.

2. Small claims court could be an option?

3. Don't know how much they owe you, none of my business, but might consider a letter from an attorney to get them to take you serious.
You probably aren't like me, but if I feel I'm being abused then the money no longer matters. I will be like a wasp at their picnic.

4. I might have suggested talking to the attorney gen, but they failed us so badly that I have no faith they will even try to help.

5. Last, don't know your age, none of my business, but if you are a senior then contact seniors against crime. Maybe they can advise.

Good luck.

We have used Fertigator for 9 years and are very happy.
Not sure if they are taking new customers..............but it's worth a call.
Just for straight mowing, there are a number of small guys out there.
Also, check with neighbors.
Good Luck.

It depends on which crew you have
I had Fertigator for three years they were great, they changed personnel and the new crew was awful
Canceled Fertigator and went to Massey and a private company to cut my lawn
Massey is wonderful
Again it depends on the employees of the company in your area

Yes & No...............the crew is important, but "the home office" is just as important if there is an issue. Fertigator has been very responsive.

It's a tough business to be in.

SO NOT USE DEANS!! They are worse than Massey - get an independent company that WANTS your business- I used DEANS and they stopped doing my lawn when I was a snowbird and continued to charge me - pics from my neighbor showed them how they are scammers!! YOU ARE WARNED!!

I don't pay anyone in advance, including Massey. They only get paid when they perform a service.

I won't hire Dean's because they require a credit card that they can automatically charge.

We had Massey for a few years and they destroyed part of our lawn and then tried to allegedly lie their selves out of it. We fired them and hired Dean. The decision appears to be the right one, Massey would show up spend 2-3 minutes spraying a rather small area
and 4-5 minutes preparing the bill. Yesterday Dean had 2 persons spend over 45 minutes a piece working the lawn. There are a number of homes around who have had the same experience with Massey and I see there are others by reviewing the TOTV input. :ohdear:

I have used Massey for 10 years for lawn and bug treatment and have never had a problem. I have a big piece of property and it is free of weeds, red ants etc. Watch out who you hire. The grass always looks greener when you first hire a new company. I was recently given a new termite contract for 10 years by Massey, with a pretreatment at a very fair price. I have hardly had any bugs in my house (few Anoles), and an occasional roach will fly in, but they are quickly removed.I use an independent guy for sprinklers and another for Lawn maintenance.

We had Massey for three services and now only one/

Hired them for irrigation service and started off a year ago great.

Than over the year had total of 5 service calls and than each guy (five different ones) set up irrigation differently. Asked them to call and make an appt and that happened once.

Asked for renewal a few weeks ago told them why not and didnt seem to care.

Hired them for fertilizing and weeding and not satisfied and gave that elsewhere.

Guy doing pesticide is good guy doing fine and keeping that service only.

We're sorry for your experience. Our records do indicate that one of our crews missed your service on June 6, 2016. You likely remember that we dispatched a crew immediately after this mistake and even credited your account for twice the value of that service for any inconvenience.

Despite this correction, you demanded more money and ultimately your account had to be cancelled by a senior member of Management because you were abusive to our staff during their efforts to help.

Several years have passed, and I'm sorry this is still a concern, but we hope you've had time to find another company that's a better fit for your needs. In the meanwhile, we remain proud of our outstanding reputation (A+ BBB) and willingness to address concerns fairly and honestly.

I think they spray water out of their little jugs….

That's food for thought.

I always wondered when they come with those large tanker trucks in front of your house
and act like their spraying chemicals, what's in those tanks and if it's diluted.

I'd like to collect a sample and have a lab tell me what it is and how strong the solution is .

Massey does a great job for me on bug control, weed prevention, irrigation, and termite prevention. I do not use them for mowing, tree trimming or bush trimming.
I would love a recommendation for someone who would select proper plants for the area and keep them healthy for ne. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have heard horror stories from neighbors and others about Dean's and Massey. I have never used either one so can't actually provide first hand review.

I did recently ask Green Smiths Pest Control to come by to look at my lawn in Fenney. I contacted them based on some positive comments I read on this forum.

The owner of the company, his name is Hoke, came to look at my lawn and give me a no pressure quote. He spent over 30 minutes looking at my yard, testing the soil, and inspecting it for insects. He gave me a very reasonable quote and an action plan to get my lawn in shape. I was so impressed by his knowledge, demeanour, and expertise that I hired him on the spot. I called over my neighbor across the street (since he was having similar problems) and Hoke spent another 30 minutes there inspecting his lawn and giving him a course of action. He also noticed that one of his sprinkler heads were broken and he replaced it for free!. My neighbor hired them as well.

We both liked that there was no pressure, and more importantly, no contract to sign! No upfront payments, you pay when you are billed after the service is performed.

The next day, Carlos, the technician, came by to spray both our lawns. He too spent almost an hour total with both of us explaining what he was doing. I was emailed a detailed report of his visit.

I got an email yesterday that Carlos had been by again for a followup visit. There was no charge for it and again, a detailed report emailed to me with what was done during the visit.

It will probably be a couple of months until I know how good they really are, as Hoke explained that not much will improve with my grass until spring. The insects destroying my grass will die right away and the grass will get no worse for now.

Extremely impressed with them so far. They are a small local company and I highly recommend you at least consider them when shopping for lawn care/pest control.

Massey destroyed my lawn. Went north came back and mole crickets invaded my lawn. I called them and wanted to know if their people had eye problems. Why didn’t they see the deterioration of my lawn by these bugs. They did admit it was their problem but I’m getting the run around about when and how they will treat this problem.
It’s really sad you spend all this money to maintain your lawn and end up getting screwed..

There are hundreds of new residents moving here every year. Regretfully they are not accompanied by hundreds of new yard work
workers. I've never heard of a "gardener," either. If only we could find a reliable trimmer and someone to manage the weeds.

I signed up for Massey's weed and trimming, paid a total of $325 four months ago, and in that time had one (1) 11-minute visit where the tech hacked his way across the front of the house and then disappeared. My follow-up revealed a tangled management mess with revolving group managers, unmet promises and NO refund. I am ashamed of myself for paying them (they're a big company, and I'm a trusting soul by nature), and I am ashamed of Massey Services(?) for scamming me. Live and learn.

If you read my earlier rant on massey, part of my fight with them is/was that stated in their guarantee was that if they were responsible for damage to you lawn then they would replace it. With a shovel full of bugs staring them in they face they absolutely refused to acknowledge responsibility even though the records of service for our address showed they had not treated for bugs even once in nearly a year.
Some may have had good luck with them, but their one star rating with BBB would indicate most are not happy with their lawn care service.

For lawn pest control, insect and weed, and fertilization we use True Green. Our lawn is not perfect, but it is way Bette than with others we used.
For mowing and trimming we use a small, owner operator. Because he is "the only guy" you have to be a little flexible if he has a breakdown on equipment. There are a number of small companies, some better than others.
Find a neighbor or friend who's yard looks good and ask who they use. Chose by personal recommendation not by the big, fancy ad.

I should have added in my previous note on Massey that at one point in the discussions regarding their failure to maintain our lawn and after being a customer for many years and never missing paying their inflated bill on time I inquired about their "Guarantee's" .
The response I got from one of their Manager's was, forget the Guarantee in our ad' go back and read it again. So much for standing by your product vs taking the money and running. God save us if this is the kind of companies our children will have to tolerate in the future. :ohdear:

Massey I think got big by bidding to do the initial service on new villages as they opened. That’s what happened in our CYV. They were good initially with pest but that guy retired and his replacement was a dud. Had to fight to get someone competent. Satisfied now.

The problem with "Small Claims Court" in Florida is what they charge to use it. In New York it is rather inexpensive to take a business or person to it but in Florida I believe a basic charge is $500 and most don't want to spend that. Unfortunately this is what the bad business's count on. They know it is one way to "beat the system" and disregard that threat to their performances. I am guessing this is one of the reason's a lot of companies don't give a hoot nor hoolar about Small Claims court or a costly Class Action Suit?:ohdear:
