Sadly, this difference is temporary as people spend more time indoors.
Delta is starting to rage through Europe again also.
Hopefully the new antivirals will be approved soon and help minimize hospitalizations/deaths.

floridapolitics.com: For now, as case and death numbers fall back toward where they were in June before the summer surge began, the mortality toll of the disease’s summer outbreak in Florida is coming into clear focus.
More people were reported to have died in Florida since June 20 than in any other state — more than Texas, California, or Arizona. Even when Florida’s large population is factored in, Florida’s per-capita death rate was worse than all other states’, including smaller Southern states that suffered harsh summer surges, such as Louisiana and Arkansas.
unfortunately, the 60,000 dead can't give us their opinion.

The elder population concentration in FL skews the "deaths" numbers...... more elderly more deaths!

if you go to the site and read more, they factored for that. plus, there's a really high vaccination rate among seniors
or course there is this: More nursing home residents and staff died of COVID-19 in Florida during a four-week period ending Aug. 22 than in any other state in the country, according to an AARP analysis released today.
but unfortunately, this did not lead to a requirement that all staff should be vaccinated. just the opposite.
I, for one, wouldn't want my loved ones cared for by someone who wasn't vaccinated. as a former health care worker, it boogles my mind that people are thrilled it's not going to be mandated.

With the high infeciousness of Delta (globally), the disease will likely be cronic like the Flu. We will need to learn to live with it.

I'm aware of the current numbers. I was referring to the cumulative numbers during the surge. the numbers are good now, but 60,000 people died and countless others got sick, including children.
from the site you posted: Here is a breakdown of average daily COVID-19 deaths and COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 people over the last seven days in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. The data was last updated Nov. 19.

Then why did you post numbers from the Summer, when FL was inundated with tourists from up north, people were staying inside, due to the excessive heat?
Of course there would be an uptick then...

Even with the surge, the per capita death rate in Florida from Covid is tenth among US states. Florida’s numbers are currently the lowest in country, so at this rate the current ranking will drop.

good point -- who knows how many of them took covid back to their states and spread it more? those 60,000 were Florida residents.....who were exposed because unvaccinated Floridians don't like to wear masks....
perhaps if vaccination had been touted instead of regeneron clinics we might not have suffered so much. but the anti-vax sentiment has taken on a life of it's own. even Mitch McConnell said they never considered that people would not want to take the vaccine.

Based on everything I've been hearing about the current "vaccines" they do not prevent you from contracting COVID, only reduce the severity of the illness. Also these "vaccines" do not immunize you from the virus and you can pass it on if infected. So what difference does it make if a caretaker is vaccinated or not???

Not black and white. The vaccines reduce the risk of all aspects of COVID. Nothing is perfect.

Cases in the last 7 days, is 11,000 in Florida (Got this off the site you provided). Still too high for me to relax. Currently, The hospitals are telling patients that Covid is back on the rise in Florida. They are taking all precautions. This is not a time to relax.

Nothing wrong with my comprehension. I've not heard/read one time any of the experts saying that they were commenting based on what was known at the time. It has always been do this, do that and all well be good. A couple times they've said after something didn't work that they were going with what was known at the time.

People die, since the onset of Covid approximately 460,000 people have died in the state of Florida. 60,000 were coded as Covid deaths. That ranks Covid as the third leading cause of death - fourth, by the way, is accidents. Florida has one of the oldest populations of any state. It is also has one of the highest populations.
Yet, with almost no Covid mandates Florida still has faired better than the states with extreme mandates, like NY, PA, MI & CA. Care to explain that?!?

Well, there is that saying "seniors live an average of ten more years here in the Villages than in the rest of the country" whether that is right or wrong. Perhaps it has something to do with Florida's old folks longevity? Or, maybe it is the warm weather? Or, maybe Covid is just over stated and over mandated everywhere else? Yeah, that's the ticket! :coolsmiley:

Florida’s death count per 100,000 residents is worse than all of those except NY. NY, of course, is infamous for how badly it handled the pandemic in the beginning.

Yet you continue to ignore that FL has a significantly OLDER population. You know, the one's who were at a much higher risk of death from Covid?
Add to that, a positive Covid test at death was deemed a death DUE to Covid. Something they are STILL getting wrong, nationwide...
Even with that, FL is doing quite well...

Florida has likely achieved herd immunity which is a protective factor for those with weakened immune systems.
Opening schools and businesses was the right thing to do. This is been the state to be in from day one. Florida has done it right.
