It's not an exact number.
It fluctuates.
You're paying for "at least"..............but it will dip below 200.

74 mps and 11.9 upload.
Varies from day to day.
Never reaches the number stated in my plan.
Supposedly (?) the more gadgets one has wifi connected the bigger the drain on the system hence lower numbers.
Since everything and anything I do is at a satisfactory performance....it is not a big deal.

I just checked and I'm getting 70 MBPS. I usually get over 200 MBPS. Could be a lot of Christmas shopping slowing things down.

We had been paying for 400 from Xfinity but they recently upgraded us to 600 at no additional charge. Fast.com says I am currently getting 680.

Each website that offers those test, including the ones on cell phones
give all different readings.
I say if your happy with whatever speed your getting, is a good day.
And for those that are paying for those faster speeds, make sure the systems
you own can handle them, other wish is a waste of money.

Unless you are a heavy gamer, you probably do not need speeds more than 50-100mbps. For quality steaming most publications it receive state for 4K programs 25 mbps is sufficient. We have over 200 mbps. Comcast keeps upgrading us. When our current agreement is up I will probably go back down to a slower speed.

When you renew your contract, they will probably give you a discount to go faster, not slower. That is how I got up to 600.

No gamers here but the hubs still works full-time and then some -- an 8 to 4 job plus consulting in his free time, both of which involve transmitting many-gigabyte files across the country. We are happy to pay extra for high speed. In fact, I am envious of people "down south" in the new sections who are wired for 1000. If only they had more restaurants down there ...

Paying for "up to 400Mbps" from Xfinity but was upgraded to "up to 600Mbps" at no additional charge a month or so ago. Consistently getting OVER 700+Mbps. and at least 675 Mbps every time I check. And yes, I often make good use of the bandwidth.

Even if you have a 4K TV and you're getting 25, you need more simply because your cell phone and your home phone or using Wi-Fi also and then someone might be on a computer in a different room. Just like the commercials more is always better oh, most people do not have 4K however actually 5-10 MBS is good enough. What really matters his consistency, especially if you are farthest from a hub

One of the techies from the Geek Squad at Best Buy told me that one way to prevent your internet service provider from throttling back your speed is to own your own modem that they can’t control. Not sure if this is true or if the guy was just trying to make a sale. Maybe someone with more knowledge could weigh in.

Not true. Even if you own the modem, the internet provider can monitor and control it, and the level of service they provide.

We own our own router and pay for 25 MBPS download speed which is the speed we are getting. It is enough to stream 2 tvs simultaneously and surf the web. I'm thankful to an honest Xfinity rep who told me that I really didn't have a need to be paying for the faster speeds and he was right. I don't believe that owning your own router makes a different. My understanding is that the speed is controlled through filters prior to getting to the router.

I typically get 40 MBPS which is more than enough for our usage. We frequently have two computers running along with streaming our high-end TV. We never see any issues.
Unless you are downloading movies, faster speeds may be nice but hardly necessary. It's like having a car that goes 150 MPH. Except for the rare few, it's never needed nor used.

I left Xfin for Centurylink. $45 (with taxes) for 60 download speed, unlimited. Lifetime contract.

Not so sure about that.
From Xfinity, I am receiving 600 (six hundred) down and 24 up service. My computers and cell phones can't even keep up. When a technician was here he verified and actually got 670 down on his new phone. Overkill yes, but the cost is (using my own modem and my own wifi router) $50 TOTAL per month. Yes, that includes taxes and fees for one year. $50.00 TOTAL.

You have got to find the weakest link. Is this measured connected by an ethernet cable or is this measured over Wi-Fi?
If it's Wi-Fi, I suspect you are using the 2.5MHz band instead of the 5MHz band. Check your connection and move it to 5 MHz and check again.

Carl Xfinity caps all data plans in MOST every state. Here in FL (and other states) the cap is 1.2 Terabytes which is a lot. There are 2 ways to pay to get around that which can be found on their website the least expensive starts with leasing THEIR modem and paying $10 more for unlimited (modem + unlimited = $25/month) the other way is to use YOUR MODEM and pay (IIRC) $30/month. The obvious winner is choice #1 as their modem (AKA Gateway) is pretty decent. I use about 1.5-1.8 TB/month so it was to my benefit to get their modem/Gateway.

For modems and routers just unplug them, wait a couple of minutes, and then plug them back in and wait a couple of minutes.

I tested at our NC house last year and was puzzled that the speed over wifi was faster than my PC, which was hard-wired. Investigated and realized that the ethernet cable from the wi-fi router to the PC was an old Cat 3. Upgraded that and fixed the problem.

In a year you will find out as the price will be almost tripled again overkill you don’t need all that… practically nobody does in The Villages Actually the price has dropped for high speed tiers by a lot. I am paying the same I paid for the 100Mbps tier 4 years ago for the 600Mbps tier. The low end tiers might go up but I don't know that since I don't have that. In fact, the 1200Mbps tier is now only $10 more than 600Mbps. How would you know that "practically no one" needs all that bandwidth? Do you check each home for how they use their internet ? Amazing how people (think they) know what everyone needs based on their own personal experience and needs. DO you tell people who own Corvette's they don't need a $125K vehicle because it's overkill? Or a million$ homes ?

There could be multiple reasons why that is happening. How old is your modem and or router? How old is the device you are testing on? I assume you are on WiFI or plugged in to your modem or router and not referring to cellular service? How far from the router when you test if on WIFI?? What device are you using (and how old is it)? If you have an older device you might try a friend or neighbor to run the same test from the exact same location. Also if on WI-FI stand right next to your modem/router to eliminate construction interference. So many more possibilities that can cause this. Possibly a wiring or termination issue between your demarc (outside main cable box) and your internal wiring to modem outlet or a bad wire from wall to modem. Could also be a Comcast issue. You should get what you are paying for. If you can't find someone to help you troubleshoot, call Xfinity (Comcast).
When i moved in here they had to run a new line from the main box 3 homes away back to the demarc on my outside wall because cable-tv was having low signal issues which can also affect internet.

When people recommend getting the cheapest, slowest internet speeds, be careful. If you have a newer 4K TV and have the more expensive Netflix package that gives you 4k streaming, you will need about 15-18 mbs to stream one movie. If you have two TVs you will start to get buffering if you have a slow connection. That said, in today's world you probably want a 200 mbs or faster package and you can get them fairly cheap. I recommend Century Link's Quantum Fiber if it's availabe in your area. With the free router and gift card if you get the faster package, it's very reliable and you won't have to think about internet speed and or cost again.
Fewer and fewer people are using cable boxes these days and with just an internet connection, assuming you have a smart TV or smart stick, you can stream everything at a cheaper cost and the picture quality will blow away anything you get from cable. Cable is dying so don't get stuck with their packages and increases. These days you have many choices.
