Really? The Daily Rag couldn't wait just one more day for Thanksgiving to be over before putting in the Christmas Special?

It's not only the Daily rag, it's been going on now for weeks in retail.

This year because of inflation, they need to cash in of the suckers ready to pay those prices.

Maybe they are thinking like Filipinos?

What's the problem with placing the Christmas Section in the Thanksgiving day paper. Today is the start of the holiday season and with many things being in short supply the early bird gets the worm.

Very offensive!

Perhaps, but each year it has (sadly) a stronger ring of truth about it.

No different than every store having Christmas trees up before Halloween or Villagers with trees up in September.

Remember when "Christmas in July" was a joke???
Joke no more, my friends.

I question why anyone would subscribe to a publication they refer to as “the daily rag”.

Is it still ok to say Christmas like is it politically correct or are we supposed to refer to it as “the last holiday in the calendar year” or some other vague description? Not that I care MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Some years back, I was in Manila in September and the stores were all decorated and playing Christmas music.

I threw the whole section out...I was busy stuffing the turkey...needed the room on the counter and never gave it a thought

At one time it bothered me that retailers had made Christmas so commercial, now I just walk
past all the early Christmas displays just like I walk past the pet food aisle in the grocery store (we don't have any pets)

once the cat is out of the bag you can't change it....so I just ignore it

no sense in getting all wrapped up in your shorts about something you can't control

I don't blame the retailers for putting in their Black Friday ads in the daily "rag" on Thanksgiving day. It's the day before all the good sales begin, and all the crowds will be at the door before the stores open. We need a good economy to be successful. So for the next month, all the stores will be doing a brisk business.

For me, Christmas is a Holy Day first, and a holiday second.
For me, Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Lord. A nativity scene, and candles in the windows are my favorite. I enjoy religious Christmas Carols. Then comes the tree and lights and a wreath (I don't really need them, but have them). I don't like secular christmas carols, especially the Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Santa is certainly for kids. Gift giving, while important, for me it's secondary in my list of priorities.
In today's world, Christmas has lost it's true meaning.

I have always enjoyed the sale ads. Thanksgiving tradition. After dinner we would gather around with all the ads planning our schedule for Black Friday sales, while others would watch football or took a nap. Usually the first stop would be Rikes for that years stuffed animal (every year was different). After we would meet at our favorite diner for breakfast. Fun memories

As did almost every paper in the US, unless you’ve forgotten. NJ was running Christmas sales and editions for two weeks now.

You seem to think that the newspaper has much control over this. The retailers pay for the ads and dictate the content and when they are to be run. So don't blame the Daily Sun. They are just a business that sells advertising space so that they can publish a newspaper.

Like a friend of mine who was an Advertising Director of one of the Booth newspapers told me, the number of pages they could print was based on the advertising revenue for that day, and that totally determined the amount of news stories that would be included in the paper regardless of what was happening.

I worked in retail for many years and Christmas prep started in June. I was so happy when I got my first (non-retail) job out of college and didn't have to go to work on Black Friday.

If you don’t like the paper, don’t read it. Simple.

I am very confused. December 25th is a date made official by Emperor Constine (sp) to celebrate the birth of Christ. It seems the the birth date was actually unknown. I guess this remark will not go well with a lot, but why can’t we just celebrate a HOLY BIRT?

We just moved here last week and yesterday was the first time I got to read the paper. I found it informative and helpful. I’m sad to see it referred to as a rag. I hope that isn’t the opinion of most people here. We love it here and I guess we just wish everyone is as happy and blessed to be in this lovely place as we are. Whatever downsides there might be just pale in comparison to the beauty and joy we see. We’ll be subscribing to the Daily Sun.

I’ve always gotten a kick out of people who tell you there the only ones keeping the real spirit of Christmas and the rest of us are just slaves to the businesses that have taken over Christmas. The idea that those who shop are less holy then they are is really funny . I love Christmas and the old stories about the birth of Jesus , I love the memories of cold snowy nights, my mom and dad in our tiny kitchen and carols and midnight mass, but I also love the commercial and charitable side of Christmas, I have always been like Scrooge after the ghosts have all left spending foolishly when I didn’t have money and still doing it when I have some money . I spent many christmases in very terrible places but I had the old memories of Christmas and the present ones of my family having a wonderful Christmas and thinking of me .so if you ever see me at the mall with a bunch of presents you’ll be able to see that I’m a man who knows how to keep Christmas both commercial and spiritual

Christmas retaining has been evident since before Halloween. Sad, I know, but it's not unique to The Sun.
