I have a long hair chihuahua that is up for adoption. She is about 2 years old and has a mild case of heart worms. She is asymptomatic. No cough or problems breathing have been noted, She has been spayed and is ready for a loving home. She was picked up as a stray and no one has claimed her. It has been a month.
She is very calm, gentle and loving. She has been in a crate at the shelter and appears to be house trained.
I can bring her to the Villages if anyone is interested in her. She is at the Sumter Humane Society here in Americus Georgia.
I will put some pictures of her in the album section.

She should be treated for heartworms before she is up for adoption. That problem will only get worse.

Treatment is pricey and the dog will need to have a lot of rest during that time. So, I am sure that the shelter (and pooch) would greatly appreciate a dog-lover here who has the means to pay for the treatment and the time to give her a lot of pat sessions on the couch while she heals.

I adopted a dog who had heart worm, and he is now totally better and the best "furry baby" I could have asked for.

What a sweet little face she has. I hope that someone opens up their heart and their home to this precious little girl.

She is being treated for the heartworms. We treat all our orphans at the shelter. She is a sweetheart. Loves to be held. I can not believe no one ever came to claim her. She did not have any ID when she was picked up as a stray. She was in very good condition also. We take dogs like this to all our area vets to see if anyone recognizes them. Anytime we get small gentle dogs like this in I always think of the Villages. She would be at home there.
My husband is coming down tomorrow so if anyone is seriously interested in her he could bring her.

Thank you for making sure she is treated for those heartworms. Just in case someone doesn't know how to access your album, just click here to see her photo:

Baby Ruth was adopted yesterday by a very loving family here in Americus Georgia. The couple had a poodle and she passed away recently. They came to the humane society to see if they could find a furry friend to fill the void in their life.
Shelter pets are some of the best friends you will ever have.
