If you have a leaf or debris problem, a gutter guard system should work fine. But, the ones advertised on television are very expensive, costing thousands of dollars. I would suggest looking into the gutter brush system, at gutterbrush.com. You can order them online and install them yourself for a few hundred dollars. No tools required.

I ordered some aluminum guards for our Wisconsin home. Forested lot. Installed them myself. Very easy for most anyone with a drill/driver. Installation is quick and the Amazon product, FlexxPoint 30 Year Gutter Cover System, is going to be way cheaper than anything installed by a professional. You just need to measure to know if you have 5" or 6" gutters. These work very well.

I had them in NJ and they worked great. They are a bit overpriced. Depending on the type of trees they also may still need care. We had lots of maple trees and their "droppings" still got caught up in the mesh and would take root. No need (no trees) for me here. Also, in heavy rain they do restrict the gutters quite a bit due to the fine mesh so you could get lots of "overflow" that didn't make it into the gutters because the gutters are restricted by the fine mesh.

In our previous house (not in TV) I used a plastic (PVC?) product with about 3/8 or 1/2 holes over the entire surface. These snapped onto the gutter and slid under the last row of shingles, and worked great for the 3or 4 years before we moved. We do not need these in our TV home so no experience, but I do not see any reason why they would not. These were around $5 each (I think) .

Called a friend of mine that has the screen on all his gutters.

He claims people get hung up to install and forget.

Here's the problem.
When the stream of rainwater is restricted, and doesn't flush out the gutter of
silt/sand/granules from shingles and build up near the down spout inside the gutter.

If not check, silt builds up and needs cleaning.
Big job if you got a 2-story house.

We just had an estimate to install gutters on our home. I asked about gutter guards. We were told we don't need them, as there were no significant trees nearby to drop leaves and clog them...

Other then the entrance to your house I don’t think gutters are needed.

You can get inexpensive screens at the major home supply stores or the hardware stores. And then install yourself in under one or two hours. Before you do of course make sure you clean out the gutters and the downspouts as we had a few dead frogs in the leaves clogging up everything. If you don't want to get up on a ladder you can have a handyman do it in one or two hours probably for well under a couple of hundred bucks. You'll save yourself quite a lot compared to the TV commercials

As stated previously, the granules from shingles wash down into the gutters and eventually block water movement. Also, if the leaves are dry they slide off the roof, but when they get wet and slide down the roof onto the gutters, the mesh screen blocks them from sliding off, and it blocks the water entering the gutters.

Ok, I will bite. Your question is specific to gutter guards in The Villages. Why would gutter guards work or not work with the only qualification being “ In The Villages”?

If it’s a new roof, try to hold off. The grains of roofing will build up under the guard and you will have to remove the guard a couple years later for cleaning. They do sell down spout screens if the oak leaves are a problem. They just need plucked out and cleaned once a year. That said, if the roof is older than 3-4 years, put those guards in and go golfing.

Maybe so in your situation but that depends on a lot of variables. Heavy rain made it look like Niagara Falls along the side of our house really causing a mess in the landscaped areas. The stone would get dislodged and we’d end up with erosion and even some damaged planting. It also may cause water to seep all along the foundation/slab which could possibly cause problems. While the gutter GUARDS may be unnecessary, especially if there are no trees around as in our case, in many cases gutters are a wise thing to add. AT least the water gets directed away from the foundation and any landscaped areas.

Go to siding supplier (not box store) and buy the same type of stainless steal gutter guard and then hire handyman to install. Measure length need and purchase they come in six or eight ft long. I got quote from them they wanted over $6000. To install 150’ of guard. I purchase gutter guard at supply house for what I needed and cost was $352. And paid handy $450 to install. Big saving and cost per foot was only5.33 per ft verses $40.per ft

I agree. $40 per foot is an outrageous price for a piece of metal to cover a gutter. I understand that some installers will start at an even higher price, and then negotiate down from there. It's similar to the awning installers who will charge $1200 in labor to attach an awning to the house. A job that takes about 30 minutes. Buyer beware.

They screen works for me....The North side of my house has a large oak tree that drops tons of oak leafs every Fall. Most of the leafs blow off the screen. Some accumulate on top of the screen. None make it inside the gutter. I blow the leafs from the screen twice a year using a very small nozzle attached to the end of my garden hose. The entire job takes about 15 minutes. I have not had to clean the inside of the gutter for 3 years. There is a small amount of fine sand laying on the bottom of the gutter.
The screen comes in 4 foot long sections, and is easy to install.

If you need gutter guards...
Costco has EasyOn Gutterguard for 5" or 6" gutters. They go on sale for around 20%off a couple of times per year (e.g., 36' for $54.99 after $15.00 off $69.99). Each piece is 3' long, slides up under the first shingle and are attached to the top of the front edge of the gutter by a double-side adhesive strip (already on each piece) and/or provided sheet metal screws. They come in boxes with a number of 3' panels for various total lengths (24', 36,' 50', 100', etc.). Individual 3' pieces can be cut shorter (for that last piece) using tin snips. Pick the combination of boxes that fit the total length you need for your gutter system.

I have them on my house Northern Virginia but only put them on the front of the house (both upper story and full length front porch) which is under tree with lots of tree leaves. I've never had to clean my rear gutters since no trees are near them. I have not had to clean my gutters since installing these EasyOn Gutterguards ~10 years ago. My last shingles were installed around 12-13 years ago and I've not had a sediment build-up problem in the gutters. If there is a problem, I can remove one 3' panel and jet spray the gutter from there. I hope this helps.
