With prices out of control, has anyone priced a large birdcage recently? I searched older threads, but prices have gone crazy lately and we are making an offer today on a home.
Thanks,
Marty

Ours was already in place when we bought, but just FYI another consideration would be how long would it be to get one built should it be a gamechanger for you....seems that a lot of things are taking forever to get done anymore with COVID being the excuse for both price and time to install. At this point, if I really wanted a birdcage area to use, I would definitely be looking only at homes with existing birdcage areas I was happy with. Right now I understand pools are being contracted to build and the schedule date is a year out. Crazy!

It's a good point. We have a home here now a just got some quotes for a 2 sided glass enclosure and it was over 17k with a 9 month wait. But, we found a great home , but no birdcage....

I should mention that we bought our current home with a birdcage in place so we never priced one before.

No idea of current prices (sorry) 6 years ago, our 800 square foot birdcage was around $18k, this included electrical work for 4 outlets, relocating the irrigation lines (3 or 4 as I recall), the concrete pad, and the birdcage structure. I would guess at least 25% higher now and a long wait.

Thanks for your info, fortunately the area is ready for the birdcage now. Probably 40x20 so your square footage is right on.

We just had one installed. 24 x 48 with a 40’ panoramic screen. The sides are 10’ high. We were replacing an existing one and had the original drawings, so the engineering fees were minimal. Total cost $22,300. Lead time less than a month.

We received two quotes for 20x16 identical designs and one was twice as much as the other so definitely get multiple quotes. I suspect the higher one mistakenly quoted a concrete pad which we already have. We went with the lessor quote because the rep and the writeup where much more detailed and we had a reference for that company.
Quote 1 5,000
Quote 2 11,000
We were told to expect 3 to 4 months lead time after permitting was completed.

We had a 1,200 sq ft birdcage built 3 years ago. Total cost with concrete pad was $30K. Went with Kilcrease Construction - Do Not Recommend!
We should have waited for Brian & Terry Vinyl. They did our 1st cage about a year before the new one (we then moved - haha). Cost was far lower than any other bids, and once they start they stay on your job till finished. We went with Kilcrease because BTV had a 9 month wait to start. Kilcrease did a horrible job on concrete, and it was hard to get him back to fix things.

They’ve always been surprisingly expensive when we northerners check into having one built or expanded. A major post-hurricane change in the building code a number of years ago increased the price further, due to the cost of aluminum. Now the supply chain interruptions resultant from COVID seems to have increased prices and waiting times even further. The prices must be truly frightening for those thinking about add-on construction.

I read that the beer industry is facing a shortage of aluminum for cans. Let’s hope all those aluminum framed bird cages being built don’t result in the price of beer going way up. What good is having a bird cage if you can’t afford to crack a couple of beers while hanging out in it?:mad::mad::smiley::o

Yea, even if you do it yourself which I have. Building material has skyrocketed too, but it’s a lot cheaper if you can do it yourself. If you can’t do it yourself & you want a birdcage well don’t do it or spend the money. What else is there!

We received 3 quotes for a 12x14 birdcage on an existing pad. $7K ~$9K
Had to get over the sticker shock but we are doing it . ARC approval already obtained.

Everything except rerouting irrigation was included.
Signed contract in June, construction scheduled for Feb.

A new small birdcage is in to the $20,000s now for a small villa back. A designer home I would think is $30-40,000 or more depending on size. My contractor said in 2017 maybe a small one would have been about $12-15,000 including the concrete. Also T&D is telling their customers awaiting a visit to get a quote that they have to decline quotes for now since they can't get the parts anyway.

We just went through this process and obtained quotes for a 19 x 23 birdcage with a 5 x 23 concrete addition to our existing patio. We received quotes from Custom Vinyl Systems ($33k); A+ Screens ($16,700) never returned messages; Quality Screens ($16,900) never got back with me; Windows of Central Florida ($17,100); and White Aluminum ($14,200). White Aluminum came to our house twice to answer questions and we are about 12 to 14 weeks out for a build.
