My neice just lost a baby unexpectedly and she lives in Gainesville FLA...We are still Ptimers in TV and currently live here in VA so I need help with something.....My question, what type of small tree can I have delivered to her so she can plant in memory of her daughter? ..I just dont know the right type of tree to send for that area. Here in Va , we send a dogwood to someone when they have experienced a loss so they can plant in memory of their loved one...any help/ideas are appreciated...

I am very sorry for her and your loss. A live oak is a hearty tree in central Florida.

Wlou,

I am so sorry for your loss. You, your niece and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't know what type of tree to suggest, but the idea is heartwarming and lovely. Take care.

My sympathy to your neice and family. A memory planting is a wonderful idea. A suggestion would be a crepe mrytle...does well for this area. Just so you know, it is a desiduous ( probably spelled wrong) meaning it will loose all foliage during colder months. A very nice fragrant & hardy bush would be Black Tea Olive. Produces tiny white fragrant flowers and requires no maintenance.

Thank you all for such great words of comfort and prayers. Just a FYI for anyone who ( hopefully not!) ever has to do this for a loved one. There is a company called "Seeds of Life" who specializes in this very thing. They also tell you which trees are best suited for warm and/or cold climates. Based on their suggestion, ( and not wanting to send a large tree) we sent a beautiful white dogood. Our neice said it was very therapeutic for her to be able to plant that tree in memory of her daughter lost...
