I just bought a house in Cason Hammock and will be moving at the end of January.

How does the trash service work in TV? Do you get a can or need to purchase one? How often is the pick up? How much can you put out? What if I have a lot due to construction?

I am planning on pulling up some carpet, not sure what to do with the remodel debris? Thanks

No trash cans. You need to use plastic bags only. Pick up is 2 times per week. You may need to schedule pick up of large items in advance.

Welcome to TV!

I'm new as well but I learned that you don't get a can or container and if you use one they will toss it as well. In our area we are picked up twice a week, Tuesday's and Friday.

My husband and I had all our carpet removed recently and replaced with tile. The carpet and pads were removed by the trash service.

The system is one of the most ridiculous things about ”the bubble”. Putting a plastic garbage bag on your driveway where critters can get at it it’s just plain stupid. I would put it out in the morning to avoid them.

I would also prefer a can but it is what it is. Worry more that wind will blow open container we put papers in and scatter to the neighborhood

If you want to take a chance on the regular trash service picking up your construction waste make sure you cut the carpet in 4’ strips and roll it up and tape it. A Bagster is another option

Our trash isn't picked up till after 10 am. So putting it out in the morning is the routine.

At closing, you'll get an info sheet telling you what your trash pick-up days are, along with your Villages ID#...

As a non villager I find your trash service really ridiculous. Just down the road in my community we have one can for trash one smaller can for recyclables, or you can use a yellow bucket provided also for recyclables, the trucks that are used have mechanical arm is that will pick up the cans and dump them into the trucks. The only request they have is to cut up cardboard boxes and flatten them out if it's more than one or two

Welcome! Great minds think alike- that was a big question for me when I rented here before moving. Ignore all the snarky replies-not the majority for sure. All trash goes in same bag-trash, recycling and lawn waste. Twice weekly service keeps your garage smelling sweeter. Good luck with your move.

I’ve been here since 2009 and LIVE not having to drag a trash can in and out. And you’ll learn it’s too windy in certain seasons in Florida to use trash cans.

IMO the TV trash pickup is quite good and efficient.

Moved to TV 7 years ago from another 55+ comm near from TV. Over there -Lake Country- each house had a BIG rolling bin and a BIG rolling recycling bin (this was 7 years ago, so they may have changed since). But, with these 2 bins - took up so much room in the garage, and many folks left them outside beside their homes. And pickup was once per week. The bins were picked up by the truck with 1 driver(only). The truck's lift mechanism needed to be close to the curb and took well over 30 seconds (estimate) each bin to lift and dump into truck.

With the TV bags, the pickup folks are QUICK. Even with a few bags 'o trash, quick. Many folks put out dead limbs (trees...), and garden stuff.

All said & done the TV method works fine. BTW, I'm still amazed that TV has TWICE per week pickup. shhhh.

In District 13, which includes Cason Hammock, your pickup days are Monday and Thursday. Personally, I like not having to mess with (and store) a trash can. Pickup day mornings, take your bags to the curb, and they are soon gone. I have yet to have a time when the sanitation folks did not take everything that was put out.

I'm amazed that you are moving to a new home and trash pick-up is your concern.

Not sure why you are amazed? It’s one of many logistical questions that will determine what tools, and equipment that I will drag 2,000 miles to my new home. Where I currently live, construction debris has to be taken to the local landfill by the homeowner or you pay a ridiculous amount for someone to pick it up. I am a very capable person with lots of equipment / trailers, and I do things myself. So, I think it’s a good plan to be prepared. I feel sorry for you if you don’t make a plan and just let life run you over!

Thank you. Yeah, not sure why some people think it’s dumb question. My first thing is to pull up carpet and I am trying to determine if I should bring a trailer to be able to haul debris away or pay someone to remove bulky items. Planning ahead always seems like a good idea to me.

We recently moved here in March. And did some remolding. What I have learned is they will pick up just about anything with some simple rules to follow. Nothing over 40 lbs, nothing over 4’ in length. No mirrors and no fiberglass. We put out all our moving boxes and all went. But try to not make your garbage pills to large. Break it up over a few days if you have a lot. And if you have larger items you can call for a bulk pickup and it’s usually just a $10 fee

When we first moved here I was skeptical of the "No can" system. Now I love it. With twice a week pick up there would be trash cans at the curb everyday. Some people would forget to bring them in. People that work wouldn't get them until the evening. The wind would blow them into the street and they'd get run over and dragged down the road. Nope. I love how clean our neighborhood looks without trash cans as yard ornaments.

I probably missed it but, I could not find the "no fiberglass" in any of the information. I did see broken glass should be wrapped in newspaper and placed so as not to be dangerous. This should apply to mirrors as well.

We bought into TV earlier this year and are part timers (for the time being that is). At first I scratched my head over the "No Can" policy but have gotten used to it. Still, some things seem to be more suited to using a can but I'm OK with the bagging so far. My question is: What is the best way to deal with bagged trash when we are planning to leave and trash pick-up day is several days away? Is there someplace nearby where we can deposit a bag as we are heading out ??? If you ask what we've done the few times we've left I won't tell you. So don't ask. Since we're retired and very flexible with our travels we can often schedule our departure to coincide with the pick-up but not always so it's only come up a couple of times.

We have several neighbors that are part time. I have the code for their garage and take their trash out if they leave in the middle of the pickup days. Do you know your neighbors well enough to ask them to do this for you?

When we got here we didn't know that you are not supposed to use cans. So we've been putting a plastic can out forever and never had a problem, to this day. Even being out there when the trash is picked up and saying hi to the guys nothing has eve been mentioned

Ok so how do keep the trash from stinking up the garage and preventing critters from getting in there.

Each village may have different days for trash pick up. St Catherine's is Mon & Thurs & no trash cans are used. Just plastic bags or boxes. It's true, that large trash items need to be scheduled, but we found that our moving boxes and wardrobes were picked up when our street of houses moved in. Make sure to break down the boxes & reduce the number for trash pick up. They come early on our street, b/w 0800 and 0815, so putting out the trash the night before is a must. Covenants say, put out after 8pm.
Welcome to the Villages......twice a week trash pick up is such a blessing for us!

We have a similar service up north and I find the TV service to be exemplary. EVERYTHING is recycled as energy. All things are just different forms of energy. The other recycling programs are quite primitive compared to the one used in TV.

As for not using cans. What a terrific idea. Cans make noise, cans smell, talk about inviting creatures to your home! Cans blow away in the wind, cans take time for garbage collectors. What we have instead are bags. Everyone has garbage disposal so there is almost no food that goes into the bags. The ones hubby buys for us, smell wonderful, lavender or something. Critters and insects dislike it. We can put everything pretty well in the bags.

The garbage collectors come pick up and are gone in seconds flat. No one else has better service anywhere that I know of, unless it is your maid taking the garbage with her.

It is not the same trash pick up company throughout the villages. Call the company that does your pick up. Carpet, I expect they will tell you it needs to be cut to a certain width and tied into rolls. It is easy to cut from the back with a razor knife.

We moved in years ago. I don't know what the current rules are. We have Waste Management. The lady I spoke to was very pleasant. We had over 200 boxes and she told us we could put out as much as we wanted. I was expecting to be told around five.

Yes, non-Villagers understand what is done in the "Bubble" is ridiculous, absurd or whatever other adjective you want to apply to the trash system of using plastic bags. Sure Morse Family . . . keep adding more plastic into the landfill and ruining the environment even more. Waste Management knows what they are doing but the powers that be in The Villages just want to get off cheap by using a less caring company who charges less!

In addition, that The Villages does NOT recycle anything is shameful! :ohdear:

And you're telling me that The Villages trash is gone through to find recycled items such as steel, aluminum, cardboard, paper, plastic etc., and these items are recycled? Of course, we won't talk about the garbage that people put in with their trash, in addition to dog and cat poop, will we?

Those trash cans are better looking than all the ugly plastic bags that line the streets of TV, many of which are ripped open by critters before they get picked up, and subsequently remains from the ripped-open bags are left in the gutters.

In addition, those cans aren't on the street for "days at a time."

Stop exaggerating.

Perhaps a non-Villager could educate you somewhat if you kept reading, Bogie (which I know you did, anyway).

:ohdear:

With respect, it does not seem that you understand what the term “recycle” means.

I never got past "as a non villager" in reading your post.......

Without going into a ten-page dissertation, I understand "recycle" to mean to re-use or to turn into another reusable product.

You are a trash bag full of misinformation. Regardless of what you choose to call it, i.e., a landfill, dump, or ???. YES, THERE IS such a thing.

And you're telling me that The Villages trash is gone through to find recycled items such as steel, aluminum, cardboard, paper, plastic etc., and these items are recycled? Of course, we won't talk about the garbage that people put in with their trash, in addition to dog and cat poop, will we?

Yeah, right! :1rotfl:

Hello,

I am on the public NSCUDD board that oversees the operation of sanitation in a large part of the Villages. Please read what is stated here that may answer some of your questions or concerns -> Sanitation Information (https://www.districtgov.org/community/sanitation.aspx)

If you have more questions or issues with what NSCUDD does, please feel free to attend one of our meetings held once a month at the Sea Breeze Rec Center in the Villages or contact one of the board members directly -> Board of Supervisors (https://www.districtgov.org/yourdistrict/boardmembers.aspx?district=ns)

Thanks and have a happy holiday season,

Rick

The system is one of the most ridiculous things about ”the bubble”. Putting a plastic garbage bag on your driveway where critters can get at it it’s just plain stupid. I would put it out in the morning to avoid them.
If people used cans, they would be flying around during some of the storms we get here, besides , where would we put the cans ? And, as you know, some would just leave them out front and never move them....No thanks, I'll use bags.

When we got here we didn't know that you are not supposed to use cans. So we've been putting a plastic can out forever and never had a problem, to this day. Even being out there when the trash is picked up and saying hi to the guys nothing has eve been mentioned

Ok so how do keep the trash from stinking up the garage and preventing critters from getting in there. a couple of streets from my last house , there was a can left out all day , was that you? I’ve lived places with the cans they stay out all day ,get blown all over the place and they stink up because many people never wash them , the other problem is the people who start leaving there thrash bags out around 2 pm the day before , I can’t figure out why and I know some people are leaving but most live here

Why are the TV residents responding to non-TV residents who use TV forum to bash our community?
And what is the fun of baiting and bashing TV and the residents on a website that is clearly meant for those that live here or want to?
Have they no better source of entertainment? Once they have been identified as non-residents who bait and bash TV and its residents, remember them, consider them trolls, ignore their posts and don't respond. Maybe they will lose interest and ....
